Yeah I agree. Honestly, I eat bread once every few months maybe even longer. I did buy some nice Hamburger buns in BKK from Chitlom market bakery and brought home and froze. However after a few months they had freezer burn and when defrosted weren't all that good and lacked flavor so I scrapped the bread freezing program. I will say the bread styles you bake do look extremely good.

I would have expected nothing less, and of course toasting the bread before building the burger.....

I tried that once with the sliced bread. Dropped on grill for a bit. Toasted up nicely however when I squashed it all down to eat my burger the bread just cracked and made a bigger mess. So toasting is out.

I must admit, I also thought the heart shaped mustard squeeze was a tribute to TD's very own Gulping Gourmet.

Louis' Lunch in New Haven Connecticut claims to have made the first burgers in America. First served in 1900 and served on simple toast. Still open and serving the same burgers today.

The grills or whatever this thing is, still going strong 120+ years later.

    Little bit of burger history.

    ^^

Liver? Looks good though I'd have opted for mashed potato instead of rice. Anyway, M'Sahib getting spoilt again, and I had the opportunity of making a peanut sauce dressing for a salad for the first time. Could have put the making of the sauce into the 'Thai Sauces' thread, but I'll leave it here.

Started by grinding some dried chillies (seeds removed), shallots, garlic and coriander powder in a mortar and pestle to make a paste.

Got a handful of peanuts, and dry roasted in the oven for 10 minutes.

Fried the paste in a couple of spoons of coconut milk until it had thickend.

Then added some more coconut milk, the peanuts that had been ground in a blender, some tamarind essence, palm sugar, some fish sauce instead of salt, and water.

Brought to the boil and simmered for 30 minutes until thickened.

Turning attention to the salad, going to be lettuce, boiled eggs, carrot, tomato, cucumber, black olives, topped with double fried matchstick chips and deep fried tofu.

    First fry of the chips.

    Then the tofu:

There you have it, Salad Kaeg with a Peanut Dressing.

Yes, liver PAG. I generally eat Thai at lunchtimes so went with the rice. Besides, we've run out of potatoes at the moment.

Your lunch looked superb, as always. If ever you tire of your life in Phuket you're more than welcome to join us in Korat? You may have to shack up with the gardener, though.

Not for me, but for M'Sahib. An vegetarian Indian theme for lunch, Aloo Gobi. It's actually a favourite of mine also, usually as a side dish, but on this occasion I'll stick to my diet. The basics of cauliflower, potato, onion and tomato, with some garlic and ginger.

First off, in a couple of spoons of oil, fried the cauliflower florets for a couple of minutes

before adding the potato. Continued frying until both start to develop brown spots.

The veg removed from the pan and put to the side, some more oil added to the pan and some cumin seeds added until starting to crackle.

In goes some chopped onions, mixed with the seeds, and fried until softened.

then the grated ginger and garlic go in. Continue frying until the smells develop.

Next are the chopped tomatoes, again fried until starting to soften.

Joined by a spice mix of turmeric, ground coriander, chilli powder, and amchur (dried mango powder).

After a few minutes, the potato and cauliflower go back in, with some fresh coriander, garam masala and salt added, given a good stir and simmered for about 10 to 12 minutes with a lid on until the veg is softened without falling apart. And it's ready. Did a side of cucumber raita and a warmed naan from the freezer.

    Su-poib, PAG.

Today's rather lazy lunch at home was a delectable fusion of health meets chav.

    To start:

Fresh peppermint, sliced galangal, dried lavender, cinnamon and 2 liters of Evian.

Brought to a boil then simmered for 30 minutes.

    Chav:

2 slices of crustless Farmhouse (JP would get a stiffy if he still could), Thai-German toast ham and sliced processed mozzarella. Slathered in mayo and into the Breville. Removed once sealed and into a burning hot skillet.

Served with Lay's Cheddar Cheese crisps, and a sprig of organic basil from the garden.

    Fuso-lisherous.

With dessert and two beers, 720P (450B). If it wasn't across town, we'd be there regularly. Excellent food at a good value.

Not everyone needs 5000 calories in a meal.

Me, I guess. Good food/cheap price, relatively speaking.
