whats up bld? paying for food?

no more freebies from the ..."cough cough snigger snigger " motel, has your bin diving missus gone on strike?

we have costco here in the uk, you have to pay a yearly fee to shop there, stock always changes too. you would go in for some bread, cheese and eggs and come out with a sofa, a laptop, a lawnmower and half a ton of toilet paper.
petrol was cheap, but in the end i didnt renew our membership. aldi, lidl and tesco are much better here for staples, and marks and waitrose for the quality stuff.

    Just checked.

Average Salary in Aus converts to £49,700.

Average Salary in UK is £37,400.

So salaries are roughly 25% higher.

Or maybe I've just been on the fat bucks for so long as an expat and now that I'm back in the land of big tits and solid shits I think.$8.00 Australian dollars for a cooked chook is cheap.a quick google of xe currency converter tells me that $8.00aussie pesos is equivalent to.3.85 British pounds. What's the minimum wage in the UK ? I can google that for you also

If Mike's estimate is accurate then you are paying twice the UK price for chocolate chip cookies, thus overpaying by 25%
What do punters have to pony up to rent ?.or buy? Is it affordable? Here it's out of control. Rents expensive, property's expensive. You're kinda fucked if you are a slave to a mortgage here. Which I am not. Infact I've owned my " shoebox " outright for the last 20 years. 15 of those years it was rented out while the exploration strategy called me to distant and sometimes bumfuck locations. Blds ma didn't raise no meatheads.
Gotta say though. Those choc chip cookies from costco are the ducks nuts. Gonna hide some before the kids get em all

Yes but how much income tax is there on an average salary in Britain? 20%?

Just to join in, Jarsleberg cheese is Norwegian, not Irish, which may explain why your Finnish mate likes it, BLD?

A 700 gram block will cost you 127 NOK in Norway, about £9.30.

Food for thought cyrille. Hard to put a definitive number on wages in the UK or OZ I'm absolutely sure Australia is bloody expensive and just getting more so. We do produce a lot. But it could be were still dealing with a fucked up supply chain via covid disruptions that haven't normalised yet? Plus we're an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean . Shipping costs compared to lorry costs in the UK need to be factored in. Having said that the supermarket chains Woolworths, Coles etc have been accused of price gouging and I'm fucking sure that's true. But my superannuation portfolio contains some woolies and Coles stock so I would be a hypocrite to whinge or get all fucking righteous.

From sometimes talking with friends and family back home about such things, it's completely foked.

20% down needed for a mortgage and rents are so high that it's impossible to pay the rent and save the 20%.

Result: Professionals living in their parent's house until nearly 40 just to save up enough to get the down on a mortgage.

Then there are apparently refugees waltzing in and getting free houses, something like 10% of all housing projects must be handed over for government allocation.

Result: gangs out firebombing various properties. Possibly the professionals forced to live at home with their parents.

And now it seems they need to pay to annual fees to enter a supermarket.
