Look ffs it's a film location. It ain't what it used to be. Much like Alkis in Hackney it's history so don't get precious about something that is past. In the late 70s I used to get mash, veg and roast chicken with sponge pudding and custard in Alkis for 1.10p but it's the past.

9.40 for that plate 3.75 for the b&b with custard. Always surprised how good their pork products are, for the price I mean.

Made a batch of cheese, potato and onion pasties this morning. Sauteed the cubed potato first of all until soft, then added the grated onion. Once cooked, all into a bowl and some Dijon mustard, cream and seasoning added. I use mild cheddar cheese for these as mature cheddar tends to overpower the taste of the other ingredients.

very buttery pastry (I use all butter for shortening).

Baked beans go quite well with these, but didn't have any.

^^ That looks absolutely perfect for me Mike... well... apart from one small thing that I almost feel pedantic about bringing up...

You know when you start getting those small dimples on the peas... I reckon about 20 seconds or so overdone.

Yeah, when they look like your toes do/did after a one hour soak in a hot bath.

    Though the toes aren't green.

    Overcooked.

^ & ^^ I agree and have to confess they are about 4 months overdone, they were the remains of a packet lurking at the back of the freezer. They were ok tho not bullets but not photogenic.

Cheese board and ginger cake with butter later. Full on gout, now what drink should I accompany it all with.

    OK
    There you have it !

Not sure that those potatoes are peeled( english savages), but for once not baked, mashed or chipped into oily frenchy fries.

Kudos; that looks like a proper meal.

They're 'new potatoes' boiled and eaten with their skins on, coated in butter usually.

New potatoes all the way for me during my 'holiday' in Somerset. Boil up with a sprig of mint and then add butter... lovely!

This was my last lunch at my mum's on Tuesday before leaving Old Blighty.

I've been away from home for four weeks, with all that entails, so after settling back in to GMT+7 for a couple of days I was perking up a bit today when the wife asked if I fancied sharing her rat for lunch.

Yeah, I can handle a bit of that, I says...

    But... it's Isaan of course...

The wife's rat gets lubricated with soy sauce in Isaan.

Mate, I saw you had posted and I was looking at your post thinking what I could pounce upon (I dismissed the obvious wife's rat puns , Dil-like, for a witty reply and then I just thought "nah, this will do.:"

From lamb to rat in the blink of an eyelid. Whoever doubted globalisation?

    Different culture innit.

My wife won't go near a crisp sandwich and my mother in law's face as I tucked into a pie at home one day will never leave me

^^ I once offered a taxi driver, taking me home to Korat from Swampy, a slice of a pork pie I'd been saving for the journey. His look of utter revulsion couldn't have been bettered if I'd offered him a fresh, sloppy dog turd curled out on a burger bun.

It was a Melton Mowbray's as well.
