Leg of Lamb when it was cheaper or two shoulders, next day same and then like Mum, mince it with the Kenwood and make Sheppard's Pie bulked out with loads of veg. About 4 nights worth of meals.

The bones off all these meals get saved and frozen and then another evening/lunch or two making soup & veg with loads of bread to pack it out.

Interesting that it was always chicken. For me it was mostly roast lamb or roast beef and only occasionally chicken.

Is she not a red meat person?

Btw, where is the gravy in the original picture? You didn't go without the liquid gold, did you?!??!?

I think it depended where in the country you lived. 40 years ago pricing was less universal and more local.

^^ You can see the gravy boat at the far end of the table. There was plenty but I must have taken the pic pre-pour, which was a bit of a mistake.

I think my mum goes for chicken every week cos she's on her own and it's cheaper than the other meats, and she finds it more versatile with little effort, ie cold chicken meals and broths.

When we were kids we had a variety of roasts with lamb rissoles etc on Mondays. I don't think she can be bothered with the effort just for herself.

I had a chicken dinner today. A nice easy roast in the bag spatchcock

Missus had all the skin and parsons nose gone with.

I need a bigger plate really so I too could add sausages and greens.

Where did your Mom get those platters from mate?

Do you still say Grace at your Moms table...or has that been replaced by zooming your camera out to get a pic of your food mountain?

It's a strange thing...my mUm is pretty religious, as was my dad but we never said Grace or anything. Maybe it's a Catholic thing?

I just take a photo before eating these days.

My mUm gets them from the local Small Crockery shop.

They're very versatile and can be used for tea as well.

I can't believe that you have had no stick for the size of your chicken dinner? At least most of mine was veg.

Anyway, it matters not. When I get home I'm going to sort it all out and lose a few kilos. I'm on me hols just now.

Oh that's not all mine mate.
Shortly after grace was spoken that meal was placed on the floor and shared with wife and daughter in true Thai tradition.

You're referring to his tea, right?

Mendy's last Sunday Dinner here for a while is on the previous page. It's the one that looks like Jesus's Last Supper

    Time's a running out.

Lamb chops crossed off the list today. I much prefer eating at lunchtime instead of evenings but it's just not possible at home.

I bet you were fucking starving after that.

Poor armstrong would be having conniptions if he was faced with all that foliage on his plate.

that's the problem when you grow your own veg, you wait for 4 months til its ready and then it all comes at once and you have to eat the equivalent of a grocery shop stock in three days

    broccoli with cereal
    broccoli sandwiches
    broccoli with eggs on toast
    broccoli and custard
    broccoli trifle

there's a little trick that growers use. dont plant all your seeds/seedlings at once.

    Regency Cafe!

They've changed the black pudding, not much difference, just the look really.
    Lunch ... the second course-21272-copy-jpg

No toast today so I helped myself to a bread and butter pudding with custard.
