    Our monthly foray into Makro this morning, and stopped at quite a smart noodle place on the way back. We'd passed it countless times but never ventured in. Pleasantly surprised at the food and service.

    Can you get lamb shanks in Makro down your way? We used to regularly in Korat but haven't now seen them in months, maybe even longer.

    The top one is pork belly with noodles, next is Tawainese dumplings (minced pork), then M'Sahib's chopped up shrimp in a sauce with rice, below which is an appetizer of spring onion and garlic. Bottom is deep fried pork collar.

    No issue with lamb shanks in Makro here, both foreleg and hind varieties. Not something that I cook at home, though occasionally enjoy one in a massaman curry when eating out.

    Bucha Gallery for lunch, first time for long term friends of ours, and their son and daughter-in-law visiting from Abu Dhabi. Because of the date, and their family only here for a few days, I suggested Bucha Gallery for lunch. The service and quality of food were simply outstanding, truly. Their son travels a great deal (head of securiity for Boeing responsible for Africa and the Middle East), so through hospitality is not easily impressed.

















    There was a lot more, but more attention paid to eating.

    I've pretty much done f-all since I joined the Italian Mob in July last year.

    To be honest it's a complete waste of my time, but it's kept me busy through the winter.

    Something will have to change after this trip though, which takes me nicely up to some friends visiting, Sonkran and a bike tour I'm really looking forward to, all in the first 3 weeks of April.

    I'm in for a Qatar job end of April, but not heard if I've been successful on that one yet.

    PAG, you are developing a Mendip like obsession with frozen mixed veg i know they are convenient. My mum always cooked fresh veg but she had a bag of those awful diced veg lurking in the freezer for the odd occaision and i hated them, so much so i have never used them. I'd much rather cook some carrots, broccoli etc

    The veg, mashed sweet potato, and the previously baked chicken breast all came from the freezer this morning. I have one main meal a day, at lunchtime when I get back from the gym. Breakfast is Greek yoghurt with fruit, supper is vodka and coke (no sugar) and a small bowl of toasted almonds. Virtually all of my meals in the house these days have been batch made and frozen, and most include fresh veg when prepared. We eat out a couple of times a week, again always at lunchtime, where I'll stock up my system with fish/seafood and anything else appealing, and beer of course.

    Did this just naturally happen over time because it feels good? Is it by choice in order to ... lose weight or be healthier etc? Or due to something a bit more serious (doctor's advice etc)?

    not prying or being nosy, just interested in other people's daily gym and diet regime. I've gone off having breakfast by now, it's always just a cup of coffee, followed by a cup of tea, and then maybe something like a light dumpling soup a few hours later at maybe 10am. Eating big heavy stodgy carbs at anytime of the day nowadays will see me unconscious in food coma land vowing never again.

    I generally only eat when I'm told to, it's put in front of me, it's part of a schedule/routine or because I think I'm supposed to.

    I very rarely go looking for food because I'm hungry.

    Just a more healthy lifestyle whilst still having headroom for the occasional periods of excess. I have breakfast once we've finished walking/feeding the animals (2 large mugs of coffee before I do that chore), which will be around 7.30, followed by news/sport catch up and maybe some food prep for lunch. Leave for the gym circa 9.45, getting home around 12.15. I find that a large meal at midday is enough and I just don't feel hungry in the evening. Been doing this routine for a couple of years now and have no plans to change it. Incidentally, I read sometime ago that Bruce Springsteen also only has one meal a day as part of his fitness regime.

    Once full time in the tropics i am very much looking forward to dropping my 4,500 KCal daily intake in favour of the 670KCals i struggle to eat because of the heat
