M'Sahib didn't fancy cooking anything for herself, so the pork tenderloin red curry I'd made was put into the fridge for tomorrow, and off we went to Hiw Peek, a pleasant restaurant specialising in Southern Thai food.
I had their yellow curry with crab meat, as well as braised pork belly.
M'Sahib went for shrimp with lotus stems, and a large platter of various seafoods with it's centre being a crab somtam.
We shared a blueberry cheesecake before heading home.
A lot of outside seating, as well as an indoor area with A/C. They still have their decorations for Christmas up!

The pork tenderloin red curry that I made yesterday did its duty today. Don't make red curry that often, usually it's panang. Added lots of sliced red/yellow/green bell peppers to this.

A couple of great seaFUD lunches in Spain over Chrimbo and New Year.
I got drunk with another fella who'd just brought up a previous paella.
But not this one- cos it was mega.
And a bit of tapas as a light (liquid) lunch catching up with an old workmate who now lives out there.
True story. These 3 lads were squabbling in Spanish about who would be Bristol City and who would be West Brom*. I could hear them all the way down the road singing Boing Boing Baggies and Drink Up Thee Cider.
*Not really.

Wow.
Just.
Wow.

^
Great photos, particularly the bar scenes which capture the atmosphere of local Spanish bars very well. Great social spaces for all ages.
Looks like a magnet for OAPs of indeterminate gender.
Food looks bonzer.
The bar is set high on this page, but I’m bringing it back to the streets, yo.
Yesterday started with Jack Daniels on the golf course at 9am.
Ended with poker.
When I surfaced around 1130 I found the firstborn scavenging the kitchen for some munchies, so I knocked up some Philly ribeye plastic cheesesteak wraps for the cause.

Lang may yer lum reek...

Looks great. Lunch today was a baked chicken breast, some mixed vegetables, mashed sweet potato, smothered in a thick cheese sauce.

We're invited to friends for lunch today, pork loin I believe. I've just made some guacamole and tortilla chips to take along. The tortilla chips are simple enough to make, I use El Charro raw tortillas, cutting them into eigths, then mixing them with a little oil and salt. Sometimes add some cayenne or paprika for some heat or colour, but not in this case.
Laid out separately on a baking tray, there will be two batches on this occasion.
Into a 200C oven, for around 12 to 15 minutes until they become uniformly golden brown and crisp.
And allowed to cool.
Guacamole simple to make, with avocado, tomato, onion, jalapeno peppers, fresh lime juice, fresh coriander, and some salt. I use a stick blender to get the avocado super smooth before adding the rest of the ingredients.
Ready to go.

^ Nice, but no peas?
I've been thinking a lot today...
And if I was forced to make the decision, I think that I'd have a fried egg over a pineapple ring on my gammon steak.
But luckily I didn't have to choose between the two today!

Its left me wondering why they don't put a fried egg on a hawaiian pizza
That would be wonderful. I used to know a place that stuck a fried egg in a calzone, superb!
In fact there's not many meals that don't benefit from a fried egg stuck on top.

A rest day from the gym today, so an early lunch after catching up on some domestic chores. A Thai red curry with pork tenderloin, sliced bell peppers, and some freshly made mashed sweet potato.

So, the week I've started to use a different gym, and only 1.5km from the house rather than the 4 km to the previous gym, so walking distance rather than bicycle. This morning, M'Sahib joined me for the walk as she wanted to suss out what else was in the vicinity of the gym (a new mix of restaurants and shopping in a complex called "My Front Yard". Anyway, it's also adjacent to one of our reegular restaurants, We Cafe, so we arranged to meet up there once I'd finished the gym. Wasn't really planning to eat there, but being weak, and she'd already eaten, I opted for some grilled chicken with vegetables, plus the obligatory beer of course, before the walk home.

Thats a Very Nice from me.
Can't beat a nice meal after some exercise, you enjoy it so much more.
^ I haven't had cauliflower cheese in years. That looks very nice.
The wife made me these kind of tuna and avocado wraps, either fried or grilled, I don't know.
They were very nice - not quite a Sunday roast with all the trimmings - but very nice nonetheless. She said she saw them on Facebook which is probably the first positive thing that has resulted from her Facebook addiction.

Hard to beat a good cauliflower cheese, though hard to beat anything with a cheese sauce! Today we had lunch with long time friends, who for the past few years have been splitting their year between here in Phuket and the UK (Scotland). Being Robbie Burns birthday, a good excuse for a get together although there was a distinct lack of haggis, neeps and tatties. First time for them at what is one of our favourite local restaurants, Bucha Gallery and Restaurant here in Chalong.
Being Burns day, our friends came bearing appropriate gifts.
