When you say chicken fried steak, AO, do you mean chicken or steak?

I need to get up to speed on this stuff ahead of Christmas in the US with some relatives!

So what's the chicken got to do with it? Why don't you just call it beef schnitzel?

Its breaded and fried like chicken.

    Southerners

Chicken fried steak resembles the Austrian dish wiener schnitzel and the Italian-South American dish milanesa, which is a tenderized veal or pork cutlet, coated with flour, eggs, and bread crumbs, and then fried. It is also similar to the recipe for Scottish collops.

Possibly one of the better things he spreads on his manwich. I'd rather not think about it to be honest.

Speaking of the USA and Chicken.

Was watching a program on American Cooking and some Traditions and came across the, for me, the unusual combination of Waffles and Fried Chicken.

Dillinger ... avert your eyes now.

    Anyone a fan?

That is a soul food thing and it is regional. African American soul food. So not typically something that is available everywhere. You would have to seek it out at a soul food restaurant or some of the newer trendy places may do it now.

I had it once late at night after a night on the piss. You would be surprised at how good it actually is.

A huge fan. Use to spend regular time in Houston and there was this waffle shop on the way from the company hotel to work that the car automatically pulled into most mornings, resistance was futile!. So it'd be waffles with fried chicken with honey and hot sauce on top and a mug of good coffee for breakfast most days. Never really like Houston, but fuck I miss that waffle shop

I enjoyed the Old San Francisco Steakhouse at the bottom of Westheimer, complete with swinging trapeze artists whilst you were dining.

Heh, been there plenty of times!. Is that swing still there?. You'd think QHSE laws and fun police would stop that sort of thing these days, it was a high ceiling the ropes were attached to and it looked a bit dangerous. Anyway that steak house was a regular port of call, followed by Rick's strip club.

Maybe a fried chicken and waffles enthusiast broke the swing?
