Good point...but are we going to see him outshine Steyn in South Africa?

Any attack with McGrath, Lee and Warne would take some topping.

Two all time greats in the old attack.

Currently none in this attack...... and Lyon got wickets from a lot of irresponsible shots when mentally shot players felt the pressure was off.

You can read the Aussie press when they get to South Africa. Mitchell is no Steyn...and the South African batsmen won't be folding like the English...and the Aussie top order weren't much better than them anyway.

    Mitchell is no Steyn.
True. MJ started well, then had a gap where he sprayed pies which is what he is still remembered for, where as steyn has taken wickets steadily for a long time. Time will tell if the 'new MJ' is here to stay..

They are different kinds of bowlers though. Steyn is more likely to take your wicket, while MJ just might send you to hospital and/or take your wicket.

    Who would you rather face?

England should of gone after Lyon from the word go - as Australia did Swann.

How many maidens did he bowl in Brisbane? England just didn't score off him and put pressure on themselves. Lyon's confidence grew after Brisbane, and he bowled in the right places getting a lot of bounce throughout the series. He took wickets in England too after the selectors experimented with Agaar. He was dropped several times for no other reason that Australia searching for the next Warne. He has cemented his spot now, and his career figures are looking quite good. 30 tests, 104 wickets @ 32.5 with an economy rate of 3 an over.

That said, Steyn can be very dangerous too..

"Cumming had a dent carved into the right side of his face, which needed urgent patching up before he could be taken to hospital. When he got there, x-rays revealed a depressed fracture of the cheekbone and a broken jaw. He would need surgery, and because he was diabetic, intensive care too. Under the knife, he had six plates put into his cheek and one above his eye to hold his face together."
    He literally rearranged his face.

Sorry, but Willy's right . . . and it isn't difficult to just say - 'Right, got it. Thanks'.

Well I watched the Pink Day in the Coogee Bay Hotel and was somewhat pleased that not only did I not have to go and watch England capitulate in so pathetic a fashion, but that the remaining day's tickets are refundable.

That was the worst Ashes series I have ever watched.

The England and Wales Cricket Board should refund all monies to every party that believed England would turn up for this series. Referring to them as being pathetic is being very kind indeed.

I wouldn't call it the worst. Very one sided and painful for the poms, but just watching quality genuine express fast bowling was a treat we don't always see.

Steyn is the better bowler for the reason you describe. Mitchell was just bullying the English with pace. Cook for one did not back away...but his mind was occupied by other things I think. The South Africans will be different.

Agree. Overall , Steyn is a better bowler by a distance - he has even taken bag loads of wickets on lifeless Indian pitches . On current form, Johnson is up there though.

Steyn swings the ball more too, but it's the angle that MJ bowls that seems to trouble the batsmen.

It should be a good show in the republic, but unless our top order stands up and delivers we will have a tough time there. Smith, Amla and AB are all very good with the blade.

Our top end are all flat trackers, only scored freely when the pressure was off.
i predict we will be brought back to earth in RSA.

^I'd be content if we can draw the series.

Last time we played them at home it wasn't their usual top order batsmen who shone, but De Plu watshisname who won matches for them. Gaawd that was annoying ..

^the Bokkers will treat you like their bitch. Do not be mistaken, Wally - the Aussies have improved, good management, but you are a 2 bob team, and the Bokkermen will beat you by a larger margin than you think. I see a whitewash, and I have a way of knowing these things...

This is an important point; if Hadin hadn't of fired so well then the Convicts would of been in big trouble.

Indeed, on this forum, it's very informal and relaxed, a mix between spoken and written genres, so the the spoken style, along with errors and garfudles seems more appropriate for banter, imho... My spelling/grammar on this forum is farking abysmal, but we're not writing academic articles here, so it shouldn't of mattered too much... T57 does go beyond the boundaries though!

The women are doing better in Aussieland than our men did. Come on the England ladies!

It was also the effect of the new ball...one it had gone is was easier batting and the Aussies lower order made better use of it...except for Stokes...it won't be that way in South Africa...I think Steyn will keep the pressure on new ball or old.
