Maybe they had never heard of dna ,or perhaps they had been told it had all being taken care of .
I just don.t trust people who play guitars on the beach , but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and let them go to trial,
now if it had been a drummer....

so if they had never heard of DNA why would they walk down to give a sample of their DNA? Why would they do that? Are you one of the people in Thailand who see a queue of Thais waiting near a sign in Thai and think "heh, I must join with them to do what ever they are doing"?

    Probably you are.

Fairly certain there will be no statements issued by the UK police until their involvement is over (the opposite of the Thai police with their constant roll out of hypothetical theories, seeking plaudits for being oh so clever).

I'm equally sure the UK police will be cringing at the practice of 're-enacting the crime scene with the suspects, along with the audience of media and public, with the laughable photos of finger pointing.

Laughable ? More like utterly ludicrous and farcical.

And I wish the police all the best luck with their translators. When the Brits ask a simple question, the translators and police will converse for 5 or 10 minutes, and something approximating an answer (to a slightly different question) will eventuate.

We've all had that scenario with our wives, eh ?

Kill Suspects Meet Parents At Prison

    Bangkok Post
    October 25, 2014
    Writer: Supapong Chaolan

The parents of the suspects in the Koh Tao murders case met their sons in a tearful reunion at Koh Samui prison yesterday.

Despite claims the Myanmar pair were threatened by police with having their limbs cut off if they did not confess, suspect Win Zaw Htun's father, Tun Tun Htike, "still believes in the Thai justice system".

Win Zaw Htun's mother wept in grief while waiting for the family reunion as his father fought back tears trying to answer media questions.

"I'll tell my son to tell the whole truth," Tun Tun Htike said yesterday morning before meeting Win Zaw Htun. He was talking through an interpreter at the prison on Koh Samui where his son has been detained.

Yesterday was the first time he and and his wife, Zaw Aye Maung, have seen their son since his last visit to their home in Rakhine state eight months ago. It was also the first reunion for the other suspect Zaw Lin with his mother Phyu Shwe Nu and uncle Thein Shwe Aung.

The two men had been working as bar staff on Koh Tao and were accused of the murders of British tourists Hannah Witheridge and David Miller who were found dead on Sept 15. The suspects have been charged with rape, murder, and illegal entry into the country.

After the visit, Tun Tun Htike told the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) in an interview that his son and friend told him they confessed to the crime only after they were told their limbs would be cut off and they would be put in a bag and dumped in a river if they did not.

The father also told the DVB Thai police threatened to tie the two boys to a tyre, pour petrol on it, and set it alight.

On another forum one poster opined similar thoughts and one of the board's resident Thai apologists immediately began using the racist and why don't you f*ck off back home defense of all things Thai.

The guy calmly explained that while stating the obvious short comings of the LOS didn't mean that he 'hated' the place. He did however have a problem with the 2% of corrupt/lawless/untouchable Thais setting the countries agenda for the other 98%.

Even the apologist agreed with his reasoning.

But posters that need no education (about Thailand) continue to lecture us that the Koh Tao 'family' has no influence with the authorities.

That's some great shit they are smoking- is it available over the counter?

Wasn't it PM Prayuth that opened the door for investigators from Britain ?

Maybe window-dressing (IMO) but not many countries allow another countries PD /DI's to prowl around conducting their own investigation. If they don't concur with the current finding there should be some interesting media coming ahead for many to soak up.

If those kids didn't do it they just need to be allowed to go home.
Finding the real culprits may never take precedent with the investigation.

Yes, and it was the UK press that mistakenly claimed it was David and Hannah, clearly it is not. But it is pertinent that the couple were deleted out of the footage released by police- why? According to the time stamp, they are just a step or two ahead of the second " person of interest". So who are that couple and could they have been inconvenient ( to the police case ) witnesses?

And the figure behind them is not the same as the running man whom is now generally considered to be Warot aka Nomsod- or at least is dressed differently longer pants and what appears to be the white t shirt with rolled up sleeves like what Win was wearing earlier buying cigarettes. Why did police claim it is the same person as running man?

The UK crew are not going to be conducting an investigation, but acting as "observers only", quote the PM. Last week there was a big play on this in all the media; Prattle had reportedly ( by UK press) told Cameron , "Yes, send in some help," ( we need it ) just to get home and retract his promise.

I will never get used to the bold faced lying Thais employ at every chance. Truly, a less trustworthy people exists not in the world.

Under diplomatic pressure from UK FCO and then pushed further by PM. However, it didn't take long before he denied it all...as is the Thai way.

Lots of suspicious deaths and serious crime being publicised more and more to give as much negative publicity as possible for Thailand as a tourist destination. All but the cheapo's will be going elsewhere if the holiday is not already booked.

UK Police Quietly Tour Koh Tao

British police, accompanied by their Thai counterparts, on Saturday inspect Sairee beach on Koh Tao where two Britons were murdered.

    Bangkok Post
    October 25, 2014
    Writer: Supapong Chaolan

SURAT THANI — British police made a surprise visit to Koh Tao on Saturday to inspect locations related to the murders of two backpackers, a source said.

They arrived on the island by helicopter from Bangkok, accompanied by Jarumporn Suramanee, an adviser to the national police chief, and Suwat Jaengyodsuk, acting deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau.

Pol Maj Gen Suwat is the chief investigator in the case, having been assigned earlier by national police chief Somyot Pumpanmuang to take over from local officers. Pol Gen Jarumporn is a forensic expert who went to the crime scene days after the murder occurred.

The trip was kept secret, with no police officers in Surat Thani province or Provincial Police Region 8 informed. Police based on Koh Tao and neighbouring Koh Phangan were not allowed to join the meeting or take pictures of the visitors.

Only one rescue volunteer on Koh Tao was brought in to provide information about the events of Sept 15, when Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were killed, according to the source.

The British team went to Sairee beach were the two were murdered, and inspected the nearby location where the two suspects stayed and were seen playing guitar. They also went to the AC Bar where the two victims had been seen before their deaths, and stopped at a place near the clock tower where police claimed they had found Miller's mobile phone.

They took pictures and asked for information before holding closed-door talks in the meeting room of the Koh Tao municipality before returning to Bangkok.

Three Scotland Yard police were believed to be on the trip from Bangkok, joining two others who had come to the island on Friday, according to the source.

At least one British officer is a homicide detective and another one is an experienced crime scene expert, another source said. They arrived in Bangkok on Wednesday.

Koh Tao mayor Chaiyant Turasakul said he was not aware of the visit and was only ordered to arrange local officials to facilitate their visit.

Seems they are being taken very seriously, no locals allowed except rescue volunteer. (Wonder if that was the family's cousin?)

Interesting that local police weren't informed of the visit and excluded from the meeting and even the mayor apparently wasn't included in the visit.
    That must grate a bit.
Guessing there will be some serious scrambling behind the scenes.

I thought it would've been that bald headed Farang volunteer but don't see him in the photo. If he's still on the island, surely he would've been the best one to talk to so that his body language could be read as to whether he's reluctant or hesitant answering any questions put to him.

Given that no one, not even the Thai police, thinks for one moment the British police believe the Burmese patsies are the culprits this little charade is merely the prelude to the main event when the junta decides to make their move.

Will the general doggedly stick to stupidity or will he realise his position is untenable and let the Court/ prosecutors rule there is no case to answer because the evidence is as crap as the entire world knows already.

Daresay, a few older heads are having words.

Still, nice to see the Detective Chief Inspector is wearing his suit. Chap looks the part and that steely look as some mouthpiece spouts gibberish at him is forged in the crucible of a career dealing with the worst villains and politicians anyone might expect.
