Exactly. The bureaucracy (civil servants) the folks that really establish policy for the elected figurehead are the ones needing term limits. California is a good example of a system out of control. The size and expense has grown at an incredible rate starting when Govenor Moonbeam was in office. Having been a resident of the state for most of my life, I have seen taxes increase beyond anything reasonable with little payback value.

A large portion of these taxes pay the salaries of the bureaucracy whose primary job is to award contracts to "consultants" whose qualifications seem to be they are either former employees in government or employees of companies who stand to profit from government contracts.

The entire system is out of control in California and Washington both out of touch with the desires of local communities. Time to get tax dollars paid to and spent by local government and stop the folly of sending tax revenues to the state and federal coffers so they in turn can send it back to the local communities after extracting the overhead cost to pay their bureaucracy.
The California legislature approval rating is at 13%. There will be a measure on the 2010 ballot returning them to part-time status. Given citizen dissatisfaction I'm hoping it will pass.

Booners when are you going to come to terms with the fact that RC has you on ignore and isn't responding to you?

Because your constant posting to/about him is starting to smack of desperation for his attention.

Funny you should say that, I was watching him today and it crossed my mind that perhaps he was on some sort of Andy Kaufman type trip. It is surreal the stuff he blurts outs.

I had a similar opinion of him too but recently I have been watching his shows on a daily basis (sad I know) and his repeated warnings "the end of days" and the "people rising up" and finding Marxist conspiracies in all most every walk of life are disturbing... ...

He admits to having been a long term alcoholic and some of his monologues are so bleak and alarmist that you could quite easily see him putting a shot gun in his mouth and blasting himself in an atempt to "question with boldness"
They champion falsehood, support the butcher against the victim, the oppressor against the innocent child. May God mete them the punishment they deserve

Yep. But did he attribute the Chicago style to the WSJ? It did a piece on that with quotes from the Untouchables. I only saw the web version. Really funny tho. Rahm must be fuming.

Beck, whether you like him or not, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. But you do have to be ignorant and silly to get - ratings. But what's far worse, is that Beck is a Charlatan showman - making money off of poorly read people's frustrations and angst. His books keep coming out. He's on TV. And now, this:

Note* the company he's pitching, Goldline, sells gold at 40% over the spot. Ripp-off.

    Glenn Beck's gold-gate problem
AP – FILE - In this March 12, 2003 file photo, syndicated radio host Glenn Beck, whose Philadelphia-based …

Tue Dec 8, 3:47 pm ET

Yet another controversy appears to be brewing around Fox News host Glenn Beck. Some are accusing him of a blatant conflict of interest concerning his frequent on-air promotion of an investment sold by one of his main advertisers: Gold.

For some time Beck critics have cried foul over his relationship with Goldline International, a precious metals vendor that features the TV and radio host's endorsement prominently on to his time as a host for CNN Headline News.

Glenn Beck also regularly talks up gold on his nationally syndicated radio show, where he often endorses Goldline during live commercial segments. Additionally, Beck has had the company's CEO on as a guest. Advertisements for Goldline are also featured prominently on Beck's own website, where he recently promoted gold in an audio clip warning of an apocalyptic future:

When the system eventually collapses, and the government comes with guns and confiscates, you know, everything in your home and all your possessions, and then you fight off the raving mad cannibalistic crowds that Ted Turner talked about, don't come crying to me. I told you: get gold.

Back in October, the liberal media company Air America made this video mocking the conflict of interest:

Beck's promotion of gold presents a potential problem for Fox News, which strictly prohibits on-air personalities from making paid product endorsements. When contacted by Daily Finance for a comment on the matter, Fox News senior vice-president for development Joel Cheatwood said the network "makes an exception for its commentators who are also radio hosts," adding that they knew upfront that hiring Beck came with the understanding that he was also a radio host and that they "had to be accepting of certain elements of that." Nevertheless, a Fox spokeswoman said that the company is addressing the matter with Beck's agent, George Hiltzik.

However, Beck, who responded to the conflict of interest allegations on his show last Thursday by saying "So I shouldn't make money?", isn't devoid of defenders on the matter. Business Insider called the controversy "nonsense," adding "there's nothing wrong with a commentator advising viewers, listeners, or readers to take positions that he is taking himself. In fact, you might wonder about the motivations of someone giving financial advice he wouldn't take himself."

In Beck's defense, some have also noted that the price of gold has spiked since he started at Fox News. Nevertheless, you can probably bet that any and all future Jon Stewart impressions of Beck will include numerous references to the virtues of gold.

according to this link they are selling a krugerrand (1 gold oz) at 1,300 $ World Gold Bullion Coins - from $164.95 , that's not a 40% mark up like Milkman states, it's just 13% more than bullion , and you have to consider that coins always trade a little higher because of minting costs.

40 or 13....who cares? this guy is using rhetoric that is clearly going to pump up the price of gold---while at the same time he's profiting from companies that sell gold on his show.

whatever happened to professional ethics in journalism?

oh sorry, i forgot we were discussing fox 'news'.

Aww, and Barbara Walters chose Glenn as one of the top ten sensations of the year. 55555555 I bt he could gate-crash an Obama party, but since he has morals and manners, I doubt he would.

it makes a hell of a difference . 40% would be a rip off , 13% (considering all coins quote at a premium to bullion) is acceptable as handling and delivery of course have their costs.
I don't see a real ethic problem here, if Glenn Beck thinks gold is a good defensive investment has all the rights to say so, and Goldline has all the rights to offer him an advertising contract. It would be interesting to know if Glenn actually puts a good share of his savings in gold , if not then you could call him an hypocrite.

i'm well aware of the difference between 13 and 40.

my point was that it's a clear conflict of interest.....the amount is irrelevant.
