^ I've thankfully never been to India, but believe similar superstitions override the use of such basic safety equipment there too.

I'm not joking about the marrying a snake thing, btw. I remember reading it a few years after moving here.

Snake wife makes grand eggs-it | Thaiger

UDON THANI: The peculiar story of a man who married a python said to be a 600-year-old spirit from his past has taken yet another bizarre twist.

Satien Kenkudlung’s python wife (pictured, right, with her husband) slithered away last week, after a short marriage. The volume of curious visitors has dried up, but K. Satien has kept the interest of the public sated with the discovery of an egg, supposedly laid by his now-departed wife.

    K. Satien hit the headlines in early April when his marriage ceremony to the python was publicized. It was said the snake had been his soul mate for six centuries.
He is quite possibly now a Bangkok taxi driver and in charge of safely transporting families with young children on the roads of the #1 country in the world for road deaths.

Don't know who that reporter is, but that 'eggs-it' upon leaving after laying an egg is pure Lulu.

I had the odd dalliance with a bird from Dirk's neck of the woods and I can confirm that such thinking is not confined to Isaan.

    Indeed.

It astonishes me that these superstitions persist, despite constant, massive ongoing evidence to the contrary.

Most non Scientists have similar "irrational beliefs'

Kids worldwide believe in Prophets , resurrected Semites, Ghosts,, Santa, Angels, Nagas, later Day Saints , Unicorns, Pyramid Energy, DreamTime, prayer , sainthood Djinns, Leprachuans, Lulu and telepathy.

There are a few who believe in scientific reality ,educated Scientists and educated non scientists who recognise the veracity of their proven methods.

Must dash having The Tooth Fairy a couple of elves and Unicorns for a 'Goblin party'.

Must've been from North of the River Don or South of the River Dee

    Fock off, Unicorns are real.

And as my kids have figured out. it's not just a coincidence that they've never seen me and Batman in a room together.

    Moan 1

What are the chances that walking into a separate barbed wire fence in a different part of the forest would cause a barb to poke through my paper bandage and deep into the existing barbed wire wound from last week (agony!)

All that good licking work by Maasai Warriors Woman's toy poodle undone in a stroke

    Moan 2

Driving back from her gaff my keyless battery decided to die just after I got on the freeway. I had spare batteries which I changed while I was driving but the bong-bong-bong noise with red warning dial did not stop. I then began to doubt my batteries and so I did not want to pull over and switch the engine off in case it would not start again.

    Daily Moan-20250121_034356-jpg

So I had to endure the bong-bong-bong noise with the stereo disabled for almost an hour

I got home and found that the batteries were OK but they have designed the car so that it will fail to detect the new battery signal until after the car has been turned off and on again.

    Fooking stoopid box-heads!

Interesting enough to have it's own thread if you like.

As an engineer I was pretty much of the same opinion, except I am open minded enough to accept there is a possibility science hasn't uncovered everything, or at least no intterpreted everything correctly.

When my grand niece was so crippled that she could not walk, we took her to a very respected local temple where the family asked for help. The next day when she went to the hospital, her normal doctor was off sick and a different doctor saw her. He had he ambulanced to Udon within an hour where they discovered the tumour on her spine.

Afterwards we paid our thanks to the temple and visited a few years later to thank fro the successful stem cell therapy.

I have several stories, similar to this one, that at least gives an understanding why these superstitions exist.

    Statistically, probably not that unlikely.

The barbed wire is most probably strung at a standard height for all fences and, unless you sometimes wear high heels while foraging out in the forest, your wound will be at the same altitude above the ground every day.

    Maybe 10 to 1 odds?

    Educational consultant comes.
Educational consultant makes some pertinent observations and suggestions.
Management take it as a personal insult and refuse to listen.

I was idly looking around my office walls when I noticed that the daughter had defaced my swanky new whiteboard, before she went to school this morning.

I mean... bloody kids these days.

Is this punishable or should I be secretly proud of her spelling and artwork?

I agree . For me, that would be totally unacceptable as parent. As parents we know if not addressed, they go to school and hang with friends and tell them "Yeah.. I call my dad a Dickhead" Its a total lack of respect.

But to each their own on upbringing. I remember as a kid seeing kids tell their parents NO when asked to do something or FO then walk away. Those grown kids now are either dead, in jail or working in some shitbag job.

Honestly, EdDouche, I would expect nothing less from a guy dumped in Thailand with a stipend and nobody mentoring you with values and basic integrity.
