My wife's Aussie passport has lapsed... it was as simple as that!

I usually enjoy a passport renewal run, but I have my principles.

^Bloody whinger. There's nothing better than slipping into a nice warm high metabolic rate young woman on a cold night. Unless it's in Summer after a dip in a very cold pool. Those first coupla minutes...heaven !

Why the fuck people cannot walk in a straight line??? It is not that difficult. Just back from changi airport. The number of tossers who cannot walk a straight line was incredible. I hate those fuckers who walk in one directions while looking in another. Plus, get your damn eyes off your phone and look where you are going.

A productive and morbid day organising, discussing and implementing wills and powers of attorney.

When did life get so boring and shite.

It's a necessary evil and gives peace of mind i suppose.

^^Good for you, Joe.. It'll be worth it for sure.

Moan is that I have been trying to find a USB cable for my old Canon camera. I think I found one on amazon, but can't get my pics until I get the cable. I hate my Chromebook as I have no place to put a SD card in it.

Dusted off me breadmaker as i had a hankering for some home baked bwed. Turns out my yeast is too old, been in the fridge too long. so me loaf didn't rise to the occaision. A trip to the supermarket was required as the mrs didn't have a candida infection and another go and it rose but me top didn't deliver the goods just like my team of late. Still i got my fresh bwed and butter.

My other moan is hernias and acid reflux but that is a whole other YD thread

    Respectable moans there

My moan has been festering for a while now.

    HALOGEN HEADLAMPS!
are there any statistics out there for the accidents these fvcking things cause.

What happened to old fashioned car lights?

No every new EV has blinding full beam lights on.

On a positive note, to counter this driving has I just drive with my full beam on .

    Shalom

I totally agree. Halogens and possibly more so, LEDs. And it's not just that they are ultra bright, but the damn things have a huge spread to their beam. In the old days there were laws about having headlight beams aimed in certain ways which did not blind oncoming drivers. It was one of the things to be checked off on a roadworthy certificate when you were selling a car.

It was quite logical and sensible. The left hand headlight was aimed almost straight ahead or very slightly to the left, in order to illuminate the edge of the road and any reflective posts there. And the right was aimed not quite straight ahead, but down and to the left slightly, and definitely so that it was not pointed into the eyes of oncoming drivers.

If you are in a corner and one of these idiots comes at you, suddenly you are in trouble.

Not long ago I was blinded by one as I was waiting to turn into a side street and after I did so, almost wiped out some twit sitting on the outside of his car, his back to the road and fiddling underneath....on a narrow, one-way section of road.

Jaysus ! I would've crushed him against his car, and all because some person had bright headlights that spread out more than they safely should.

^ I thought those rules were still in place. It's the LED headlamps that are the worst due to their beam pattern.

I'll also have a moan abut the strip rear lights that run along the whole of the rear, which are now common and also the there are too many little buggers that keep their foot on the brake at traffic lights dazzling the people behind at night.

It's still better than having to swerve away from the motorcy travelling in the opposite direction of the fast lane with no lights on...God knows how I missed him.

The UK Construction and Use regulations are still in place. Even so, the AA have reported big increases in members' complaints about blinding lights, still no improvement.
My Honda has 'smart' headlights that dip when they see another car coming. I never use it because it only reacts after it sees the lights straight ahead. It can't see a car approaching round a bend or over the brow of a hill. I'd like to see the technology banned, more bad than good in the hands of a lazy driver.

After all these years in Thailand I still moan about Thai drivers. Some of the stuff they pull is just unbelievable.

Motorbikes at traffic lights, ugh. Light changes, motorbikes who have grouped up on the left of the cars dart across to make a right turn in front of vehicles going straight. Seems at one time it was just a couple of bikes in the front doing this, now like a swarm of bees cutting across your front bumper.

Yesterday, an old guy on a motorbike, no helmet, flip flops, shorts, and no brake lights, stops in the middle of the road to read a new sign. Doesn’t veer even a little bit over to the side.

What is wrong with these people?

They regularly try to overtake on the right as I'm indicating and about to make a right turn. Like dude that's going to hurt you a lot more than it will me.

End up in some weird slowdown will they won't they kind of faceoff.

Same as the hordes of delivery drivers now - Grab, food panda etc, that will be looking at the address or map on their phone while riding then suddenly stop to pull into a soi they've nearly gone past with their entire focus on only that.

The reason for that may be that it would otherwise react to any lights in the periphery, not necessarily coming towards you. And it may never be able to differentiate the two properly.

I guess it also depends on the difference in brightness between high and low, as well as where they are aimed.

That's a good thing though, because if you are going reasonably fast approaching a corner with your high beams on, if your car decides to switch to low beam without your permission, it is possible that suddenly you

    cannot see the corner properly.

In the countryside once, I dipped my lights on one side of a bridge for an approaching car, didn't see some ducks on the road and ran them over. Had to go back and make sure they were dead. I still feel awful about

that, 25 years later, and I will never, ever make that mistake again.

Automatic wipers, automatic lights, automatic brakes, automatic speed control, automatic lane keeping, automatic engine off...

...have to turn them all to manual before I can drive, hate them all!

Ha! I use all of that stuff. When I was driving my dad’s CRV in the US, I got used to those things. When I bought a car here I wanted all of the driver assist bells and whistles.

One thing that really sold me on it was, one morning after a good rain, I was taking my mother to the hospital. We topped a hill and the car slid on the wet road. Before I had time to react, the car corrected itself and stayed on the road. It was amazing.

Isn't it later this year that all EU cars are required to read speed limit signs and then start to slow the car down or set off warnings for the driver until they do so?

It can apparently be deactivated but only at the start of every journey.
