Cheers Stokey mate no arm done

Today I,m a tad bored waiting for tomorrows holiday departure to come along and the other half is working so i got this old bit of hardboard out the shed primed it with grey gesso and put together a very limited pallet of oils

    Light red

    Yellow ochre

    Cobalt blue

    Burnt sienna

    Titainium white

    Cadmium orange

THEN I thought being the awkward twat I am , I am not gonna be allowing myself to use a brush as ( A ) I can't be arsed to clean it out with turps today
    and ( B ) I like being awkward

So I painted this 100% with a painting knife

    This is my pallet

Cant wait to set about that Italian landscape tomorrow !
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Nah - that's ferkin' brilliant, mun! Being a real left-handed wanker when it comes to painting, I can always feel a tad jealous about other peoples' ability to produce a pic like that. Wish I was able to do that sorta thing....

Good on ya and keep at it. Ferkin' brill!

Saying that, I'm a real dab hand at painting walls 'n shit - so there....

Here I am painting on a piece of MDF 6mm board which I have primed 3 times with gesso , I coloured the last coat of grey gesso with some yellow acrylic to give me a ground to work on .

You can see the limited pallete of colours I am using Alizarin crimson , cobalt blue , cad yellow light , titanium white , and yellow ochre .

The finished result , this was the view we had on the last Sunday evening as we walked around Citta St Angelo , wonderful memories

Sorry not too much going on here at the moment ,, seems like its unfortunately just been left to me now to post here which is a shame ,,, anyway at the moment there is a new film out about the life of one of our greatest artists of all time William Turner , so I always loved one of his greatest works " The Fighting Temeraire "

Now I really hate prints with a vengeance so I am having a go at this fantastic painting to hang up in my own living room in oil .

This is quite a big painting by my usual paintings but I think the drama of the sky and river needs the space .

I have stood many hours in the National gallery drooling over this one , I doubt anyone will drool over this one , THIS IS WORK IN PROGRESS LONG WAY TO GO YET OK .

Oooh, good stuff Nige. It will be very interesting to watch this develop.

For those curious (like me) here is the link via Wiki to a pic of the original, nice big file at ~4.9MB 5,684x4,226px so we can compare Nige against Turner brush-stroke by brush-stroke!

Edit: It's the pic Bond is looking at in Skyfall when he meets the new Q!

^ Well thnakyou very kindly for that , I am very pleased with how it turned out as well .

I guess most hobby artists paint many paintings and every now and again get it right.

I think that quite well defines the self taught hobby duffers like myself and people who make a living doing it

Wonder what the new Mr Turner film will be like ( very variable reviews) it does not seem to be available online yet; just the usual extremely dodgy looking links .

I just watched part 1 of a BBC2 documentary, on youtube
The Genius of Turner - Painting the Industrial Revolution.

I found it very good despite being in the 'talking head' format, which I loath..
(Why can't they just have one hidden narrator?)
Tracy Emin even get hers in, as Turner used to visit her home town of Margate in Kent.
Anyway, there's a great account of the interesting story behind the painting -The Fighting Temeraire -
    which starts at 5 mins.

Her painting shows some attention to detail. Shame she doesn't afford the same after backing one out

Here is my finished version of Turners painting ,, tbh it looks a lot better in the real than the photo.

I have loved painting this , and it was destined for above our mantlepiece , however somebody who has just come round to buy another painting has just made me an offer thats hard to refuse
