Thankyou EG , however as to your enquiry , " going soft " is something we have to get used to in our latter years , its nothing to worry about its all part of getting old mate .

No tbh mate I,m trying a few new ideas I have and trying to get away from having a lot of my paintings looking the same same , I like to try to work quicker now , pushing paint around as I go , shoving some different colours in alongside each other , standing back having a look then shoving some more on .

Just enjoying my painting everyday , its a great hobby , had a guy come round this week tuesday night , bought 2 watercolours and is gonna buy 2 more I have on my living room wall when he has the money , so its a hobby thats paying for itself now which is very nice indeed !
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Good that is Nigel, a big lad that tree is -well painted too.
Great you do them in situ, or whatever it called , would be interesting to see a photo of a painting on the easel and your painting gear set up etc .

All this time you're spending painting ...
i dread to think what your back yard looks like , is that why you are not updating your ''My garden in springtime ( UK ) video , show us yours please'' thread?

Yes thanks for that Bluey ,, no probs will do a photo shoot for you on the next one ,,

BTW ,,,,,, its called ,, plein air painting .

When I was on my last 5 month sabbatical in Thailand I would call round for EG and we would set off to do our plein air thing together ,, something he had not done before ,, its just great to sit out in the wild and do it ,, so to speak .

Yes you are also very observant ,, the garden is a tip , and yes it has been neglected for the easel . This year I am growing new potatoes , runner beans , lettuce , tomatoes , courgettes , red onions and shallots ,, however its not good ,, looks very sad.

problem is i work around 60 hours per week , Jan does about 50 but all shit hours all over the place so I have to also do some house work etc ,,, there,s only so many hours in a week ,, thats why I absolutely loved my 5 months out of it all

^ One day you might say something positive on here about people sharing they're hobby for others , it will be the same day I win the Euromillion jackpot .

I aint moaning about doing housework etc I am merely stating where my time goes in the week , as there are only so many hours ( for those of us who work ) I certainly don't have time to sit on here daily like so many do , just trawling through others posts to see what they can stir up .

    Happy painting

Brilliant work again Nigel and could I ask you a question.

When you paint using a photo as the artwork subject do you ever use a magnification device?

I know one renowned artist who does and I don't understand why he uses it.

Christ Nigel take a chill pill only light hearted humor

Used to do all me own housework and cooking which is why I got a wife really.

I liked art and pottery as a kid but lost interest in doing it myself when I left school.
I still like looking at art work though which is why I take a look in here now and again.

    Good stuff lads!

Nige,,,, great study in light and shadow AND in WC too... lovely....

You didn't mention that it was 41 degrees in the shade while we were in the middle of a harvested rice paddy lOlOL but all in all it was a great day... burn and all.

LT sometimes they use them to reduce the 'vision' or to focus on the Point of Interest... Other times they are just blind or doing tiny tiny stuff like pointillism style.

Million ways to get color on a surface... many not tried yet

Hi LT long time no hear from you ,, good to see your still looking in.

TBH mate I rarely paint from photos , however when i do the will be on my Macbook in digital form only , so the answer to that question is , no I never use any other kind of devices.

EG has kinda touched on something I was thinking about , and some artists like to squint they're eyes when they look at a scene , this minimises all the detail and helps you grab the shapes and light and shade .

Sorry Gravy I got hold of the wrong end of the stick , and if you have any of your artwork still kicking around please stick it in here , it will be most welcome.

Well I thought it would only be fitting to post up my latest watercolour today as this thread has now been moved to " Famous threads "

So a very big thank you to everyone who has contributed and viewed it to get it where it is today.

This painting is one I have done from another art website I am a member of its called " Wet canvas " I do spend a lot of time on there now ,, and every month a subject is put up for us all to paint .

This is my rendition of Clumber church I believe in Clumber park Nottingham and yes it was done from a photo this one

I look at the painting you gave me often, Nige. I'm moving into a flat next week - finally a place of my own - so it will finally be in its rightful place on the wall.

You captured the essence of rural Isaan beautifully - and in the words of the great Axl Rose "And if I stare too long, I'd probably break down and cry..."

Thankyou Nomad ,, its on the west coast of Lanzarote north of playa Blanca where we like to stay .

Its a part of the Atlantic you would not want to swim in I love all the swirling seas in that area , could paint them for weeks
