Good work so far.
I too had my suspicions about Splitlids work

Despite his phothoshop artistry it was the
    ''Hey, cupcake ! ''
that got me immediately thinking ....
only a chick would have that .

Sure enough , turns out splitlid is a stunner !
she could whack me with that stick thing for fun.
is that channel 4 horse racing on the right hand monitor ?

ok here we go.... a monochrome watercolor, 140lb Arches with W&N Raw Umber.

Still trying to figure out if I want to try it in watercolor or acrylics...

actually kinda like it as it is... will sign it and keep it anyway.

Nige....For oils and acrylics one of my "gurus" says that you always paint back to front. hmmmm

Another of my "gurus" says you always start with the darkest dark and then the lightest light, to give a good reference for tonal values.. hmmmmm

looks like I'm screwed lolol if I try it in acrylics lolol.

Didn't actually nail the range of tones I was after but close in some instances. It was fast and loose. After fighting the details on the butterflies was just what I needed... sky was 2 minutes and after drying the rest was about 20 or so.

Love this idea and good results from all. Marmite just got a 2 min quickie on wet into wet, probably didn't stick but I'll keep after him.

Fantastic work EG a great little monochrome study ,, wish I,d thought of doing that ,, BUT then this is exactly what this is all about ,, learning from how others view and replicate the scene in front of us .

Bluey has come in with some great Photoshop work to ,, TBH , I thought SL was his multi ,

Anyway under extreme pressure I have tried to complete as best I can , I will leave it at this stage otherwise this excersise is all gonna get a bit disjointed if I bugger about with drying and glazing for weeks , and waiting for Willy in the loft

I tried to do a faithfull repro as best I could but try as I might I could not paint that greeny coloured sky so I modified that bit , I also changed the position of the far away island , so I tried to form a triangle of interest , from the front r/hand side boardwalk > figures > island

    [/IMG]

Cheers Marmite for the subject matter ,, once Willy is up I hope we can do it all again with another of the group nominating the subject matter

I think you did well there Nigel and captured the elegance perfectly.
Having the figures below the horizon adds a different mood to it too.

Though having said that , I reserve the right to hold back one mark , just in case It's its one of your really tiny paintings ...

I had 4 ideas ,even sketched the rough outlines on a bit of paper and was going to have a go from scratch with one of my painting prog , not in auto painting mode .
But now the finishing gun sounded.
And as usual I only manage to complete them in my head ...

Cheers Dill but its not really my thing ,, allthough I have enjoyed tremendously our little group swaree ,, looking forward to seeing Willys and I really hope EG will do one of his lovely strong coloured assertive acrylic jobs .

Thanks Bluey , I used a very limited pallate of only 5 colours + white , I used Cerelleun Blue / Pthalo Blue / Raw Sienna / Burnt Umber / Burnt Sienna ,, the 2 blues are from the green family + a real crappy old tube of Titainium White which thankfully I am coming to the end of .

You can release that mark your holding back as this is painted on a canvas board
11" by 14 " and to prove it if anyone in Thailand wants it I will bring it over with me and give it to them

    Nice job Nige.

The jetty looks a bit to straight for me - almost as if you'd cheated and used a ruler.

Well here it is, sorry Nigel but the acrylics just wouldn't work on this one. Way too much sky and my blending in acrylics sucks so far. I felt the sky was important to what I was trying to convey, an open world for the newlyweds. ( May or may not be newlyweds but was my first though on seeing the photo)

Roughly 8.5 x 9 on Arches W& N paints. Windsor blue, Ultramarine,Raw Umber, Lemon Yellow and bare touches of Raw Sienna and Permanent Rose.

more complicated as it went along lolol but was fun to complete.

Given the amount of plastic and assorted chemicals in Jackson he probably still looks the same as when he was alive, unless he got cremated.

Nice one EG , I like your rendition of the shadows especially on each branch of the umbrella + the lady ,, you missed a trick on the R/H side of the guys back , you could have lit that up a treat , also your boardwalk needs a bit of a health + safety warning on it lol ,,,, its not as easy as it looks for any of those folk looking at this thread .

Angles / perspective,s / strenght,s of colours etc all have to come together as in the correct ingredients in a cake , it sure was a challenge this one .

I might give it a bash with some pastels today whilst we wait for Willy to finish and get his one up .

I started drawing it yesterday, not so easy, I have a good idea in my mind of what I want...

And I've been doing my best to avoid looking at all your pics, I reckon this thread will be about 7 pages on by the time I'm done.

Thankyou very kindly Charles , BTW just for a bit of info the last 2 paintings on here I have done ( which BTW I would never have attempted if Marmite hadnt suggested it ) have recieved some very positive remarks from professional artists where I have posted them on an artists web page

Also someone has contacted me and bought the pair of them so that is very pleasing , lets not get carried away , it just covers costs etc plus a bit of time for doing them , but very pleasing non the less .

While were awaiting Will to finish this set off , has anyone either who has taken part or any of the viewers got any ideas about the next subject to tackle ?

If not I think I have a subject in mind which can quite easilly be done in either watercolour or pastel , I,m thinking about a street scene shot I took in Chinatown London earlier this year ( IF I can find the bloody thing )

Anyway I,m not suggesting that,s what we have to do , only an idea to kick around .
