Thankyou kindly QC , I really dont like to keep continuosly posting my stuff up here , cause I know some will view it as an ,, " Oh look at me " thread , which i really never wanted , thing is I just dont want it to die a death and fizzle out .

I know others probably have better things to do most of the time so I understand that , but I really love to see other peoples efforts ,, we all see things differently and each addition is more than welcome
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

I think your fears are unfounded, the very title of the thread invites all and sundry to contribute if they are able and you have made it clear from the start that they are welcome to do so.

When I open TD over my morning coffee and see that this thread has been updated it is a must-read, even if I have emails and other stuff that I should be doing.

farkin tremendous Nigel!!!! Me don't think I can "teach" you much at all. All you need it to play with the medium to get used to the action. You are well ahead of myself in terms of composition, POI, and color management.

I think the larger format suits this one really well. The expanse just draws you and and lets your eye wander all over the painting.... really excellent.

I've finished up another butterfly and that will probably end the series. This one got me in sooooo many ways. Really not happy with it but hey, they are what they are and the process is a learning one for sure.

I'll post it in the morning, can't face it again today lololol.

Don't worry about perceptions on this thread. Obviously someone likes your stuff and there must be a ton of lurkers re. the 'views'.

    Keep on Keepin on.

Don't worry about posting your stuff, Nige. I think we all enjoy looking at your artwork.

If it makes you feel better, I might do another one within the next year or so.

555 good lad ,, got your priorities right there mate !

EG dont believe it I sure can and do learn from you and others on here who contribute .

As you say the amount of views we have is absolutley tremendous ,, it really has suprised + pleased me the interest shown in this thread , its good to see TD is not just about getting pissed and bitching about .

I have met and encouraged some unlikely lads ( not on here ) to have a go at art ,, and they have suprised and surpassed themselves at what they have achieved , they also agree , its a great way to unwind and relax .

Frankly Nigel I think it is a bit of a selfish thing I do.

It is hard to explain, I am crap at remembering names and faces and stuff but when a new painting is posted on this thread by yourself or Willy or EG or Spin etc it sort of bounces around my noggin for the day or longer.

If I am driving and stuck in traffic or something I can pull the image up from my memory brain-hole and sort of savour and re-examine it but yet I couldn't accurately describe the features of a person I met even yesterday.

My wife is probably correct, I am in fact insane. But she married me, so that makes her insaner!

Here you are ,, my pastel impresssion of part of The Mont Blanc Massif .

This piece of work is done on Sennilier light blue card only about 9.5 by 6 inches so no big deal , I like to use mostly Unison soft pastels but I underpaint with pastels I get from the car boot about £1 for 30 pastels whereas my Unison top coats are around £1.60p each !

BTW ,, QC hope your enjoying your coffee break this morn

As mentioned earlier, this freaking thing kicked my ass all over the pallet. For some reason it didn't go well from the start but it is what it is.

Tawny Closter from my own photo.

I was trying to represent a very cluttered ground cover that was in the original photo of mine... DISASTER. Lesson learned. This canvas is way to small to do all the detail necessary with the brushes I have at hand. Lesson learned. ( new brushes/additional brushes on the way from the US ) I tried using a different brand of acrylics, Daler Rowney System 3, a high end student grade. They do not have the pigment load of the Windsor & Newton and caused some problems with coverage, especially in shaded areas. Lesson learned.

So there it is. May put a ground over the whole thing and do something else...

This is probably the last in the butterfly series.

An interesting thing about butterflies, they have their own system of camouflage to ward off predators. This one is a great example of the use of "eyes" to symbolize a much larger predator. Another significant one often seen is the color red which in nature signifies poison. Go figure.

Well done EG , why stop the butterflies ? I,m just thinking about having a go at one ,, you have inspired me to try something new

As you say with the oils + acrylics we allways have the option of a re-do , the landscape version on the Lanzarote coast painting I have just finished has the Tide Mill from Woodbridge in Suffolk underneath it

kinda getting bored with b-flys I guess. ( I have hundreds if not thousands of pics but few that are great references, they just don't sit still long enough for a good 'pose' LOL ) Would really like to try portraits but know its not in the cards at this point in my journey LOL.... hate the thought of still life.

Nige, on another note, Marmite and I were discussing your reticence in 'occupying' space on this thread. Don't even worry about it. I did a lengthy thread a few eons back that was totally about MY experiences in a small village.

It got decent views and made it to a separate section here on TD. Famous threads or something similar. Tons of views and folks are interested in our foibles and follies. As with your paintings if they were a pain-in-the-ass the views would indicate it.

Folks get a voyeuristic enjoyment out of our attempts at life.....

Don't. It looks good, leave it. Perhaps you are feeling frustrated with it, but to us it looks good.

darn it, I was hoping you guys had forgotten it... I sure have. It's been a mess from start to finish. And now some of the paint has been cracking so I'm about ready to throw it out.

Stick to what I do well. (copying other paintings)

    Gonna start all over.

Hmmm, as much as I like Constable, they're a bit 'nothingy'.

We all seem to be avoiding doing paintings with people in, so how about we all do one with a person/people in it?

Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema is one of my favourite artists. I used to have a copy of Silver Favourites hanging on the wall back in the UK.

Hmmm, as much as I respect your opinion in this MtD, I'd rather paint Constanble than people, I posted the one and only people painting I ever did a few pages ago and that didn't seem to garner much interest.

I'm sorta thinking the only style I can get right is Australian landscapes. I might stick with what I know...

Yes, I realise Constanable is not Australian, but I'll give it a whirl.

Whatever is decided my only prerequisite is having a decent image of the subject. Might be a hoot actually.

I think all of us would, that's why I'd rather we did something a bit more challenging/uncomfortable. Landscapes are a bit safe.

I,m game for anything people landscapes seascapes whatever medium I,ll give it a go ,, and TBH I would like others to decide ,, the main object of the excersise is we ALL do the SAME subject ,, that way we all learn from each others eyes and perception of the same subject.

I,ll have to look up what MArmites on about to get myself grounded .

If you notice and you probbaly have I very rarely put people in anything I paint ,, and the main reason is I love peace and quiet , I,m sorry but in my experience people , animals etc usually mean noise , confrontation , ego,s etc .

But the main reason is I,m crap at painting em

    Yeah bring it on

Gawd n bennet Marmite WTF ??

Are you sure ? I,m game for a larf ,, but this is gonna be a challenge

    Everyone else in ??

This one obviously is in oil,s ,, can we allow everyone to use theyre own medium ? as some dont have oil ,, I,ll go with oil , if I tried to paint that in watercolour I would stick my brush through it within the first hour
