I suppose it doesn't really matter either way. If somebody sat down and made it from scratch it is still a pleasing pic whether it was made with a brush and paints or a graphics tablet and p-shop.Originally Posted by Dillinger
As splitlid showed upthread some nice things can be made with computers. Different from what N&J does for sure, but still takes a good eye, an imagination and a set of skills to produce it. DeviantArt.com and worth1000.com have some amazingly creative stuff.
Well done mate ,, you keep finding them up in the loft ?

Here is a photo of a Yellow Pansy caught in flight about to land...
Made a huge mental error on this one... did the background first duh.... really hard to transfer an image on dark paint... lolol so pretty much free-hand.
Acrylic on canvas. Had a bitch of a time getting a likeness that was reasonably accurate. Fun to do and learned quite a bit in the process.
"If you can't stand the answer --
Don't ask the question!"
^^ it really stands out from the background.
Not at all mate ,, you did the right thing ,, it sits well on there .Originally Posted by El Gibbon
If you painted the background around it , then it would look awful .
Well done .
BTW ,, I know nothing about acrylics as you probably have gathered ,, but your green ? Is it a mixture of some kinda tube green + white ?
It looks to me like either a Pthalo green + white or viridian green + a lot of white ?
Try using some Black + Cad yellow + a tiny bit of white
or ,,,,,,, a small amount of French Ultra + Cad yellow + tiny bit of white
or ,,,,,, if you want a real acidy green a lemon yellow + a touch of French ultra .
Just a few little suggestions mate ,, not a criticism as you clerly have your own style and I like it very much ,, I admire the way you and KW paint in your broad colour strokes ,, my problem is I faff around too bloody much .
No matter how much I tell myself , I keep making the same mistakes
BTW , I havent gone missing on the painting , I am busy every night on this seascape for my friend , and am now making a box frame to go around it , which I am gonna paint which will ( hopefully ) compliment it![]()
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs![]()
No tube greens in this one.... a couple of combo's. Umb and lemon yellow with varying degrees of white. The darker hues are phalo blue and raw sienna, again some varying degrees of Titanium white. There are a couple of spots of just a swipe through all the mixes... lol
At least there is some continuity I guess. I agree that the background helps separate the object somewhat but what a pain in the ass. I suck with any drawing.
When doing stuff from photos, especially in this case getting the slightest detail wrong means your not showing the correct species lolol There are only about 1 million butterflies that have been identified and there are many many more to be discovered and categorized...
Appreciate the comments as always.
As for greens I generally use either, B umber, Black, Umb, or phalo with lemon yellow. Can get a range of about 20 - 25 different shades ranging from warm to cool that are quite distinct. Also have used yellow orchre and B umber for a dark nasty greenish brown.
Will have to do some swatches with the cad yellow... probably not a whole lot different I expect.

Agreed, and it's a very nice pic EG.Originally Posted by kingwilly

my latest personal work, all 3d except the tree and people. photoshop, and magic bullet.
Looks good SL ^ you are very clever with the software ,, wish I could learn to use it .
In the meantime today I have just knocked up a little oil painting done 100% with a knife absolutely NO brush has touched this . This is another one that took 1 hour to paint , so it shows you can get a result in a short time
I decided to do this today as I am getting a bit bored with the big one I am doing for someone else as its going through so many drying stages ,, bit by bit its getting there though and is looking nice sunk into its frame ,, will post up when finished .
