Lorry driving is boring most of the time so it gives me plenty of time to think about places I would rather be , so tonight I got me oils out when I got home and tried to paint just one of these places .
It,s nothing grand just a simple bit of paint smeared around giving me a super evening,s entertaiment .
Happy + pleased with this one
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs
Wow!
Simple sand as the foreground and such depth in that picture!
Cheers KW ,, allways encouraging to know someone,s enjoying the pics
Nice pic nige.
One day I'll get round to posting some of mine.
Thanks SFB ,, please do it sooner rather than later mate , it only takes a minute and I am quite sure the lads would like a break from my old toot .
The more the merrier , I,m looking forward to Marmites upcoming rendition .
I can see Bluey viewwing here again ,, I wish I had a long enough stick to poke him where his is a bit further up the east coast from me ,, and stir him into a bit of action
This is the companion to an earlier painting of the 5 Bar Swallowtail. Still getting used to this medium, drying time is still an issue . The interesting thing about acrylics is that you don't have to get it right the first time...... never do anyway... lol. Easy to paint over or repaint as once dry they are just like any other ground you may use.
Shadow color is slightly off in photo but didn't mess with it.

"If you can't stand the answer --
Don't ask the question!"
Looks good!
You certainly get some bright bold colours EG well done ,, its great to see how others interpret things
Now a little while ago I bought some of these oil paints that dilute in water ??
Yeah I know it seems to defy logic but they are mixed with safflower oil , great to wash your brushes out with water after use and able to thin with water on the canvas etc .
I thought I would give em a go ,, now I bought a set of 8 paints all pretty much standard colours except I have a purple in one of the tubes ,, wondering what I could do with it I just thought I could underpaint something ,, foliage , rocks etc ,,will ofcourse mix with some white to fade into the far distance .
Anyway off we go I,m gonna paint something out of my head completely making it up as I go along , I have nothing in front of me to work with just imagination , I find this is a great excersise now and again to dig into the old vault and see what transpires , mabe we,ll have a picture at the end mabe another for the bin .
Right now lets hit that orrible white canvas with that awfull purple

Back later
Ya bugger, not much yet.
Is that paper thick enough for oils?
Sure is mate , its cheap practice oil paper , infact its got such a tooth on it that it actually wore down one of me hog hair Pro Arte brushes scrubbing that purple out lol.
Anyway lets see where were going next
Aha lets get some foliage in !
[/IMG]
Its a toss up on the other side more trees with a river flowing through the middle ,,, or mabe a mountain ?? I,m going with a mountain I wanna see how these weirdo paints behave
[/IMG]
Well thats a start ,,,,, now its gonna take a fair bit of pushing this old paint into some kinda picture .
This is the weirdest stuff I have ever used to paint with , it smells like molten plastic and TBH is beginning to behave like it ,, if this were proper oil paint my conservatory would smell lovely now , instead it smells like a factory making Lego .
Anyway will crack on later when I get home from work see what begins to transpire , allways good to walk away when your imagining something in your head I find just to give it a bit of thought about your options .
Oh nearly forgot ,, the easy bit brushes washed out under the tap 1 min
Continued bashing the old mountain into some sort of shape , trying to introduce some light and shade into it and planting it down into something ,, be it only mist .
[/IMG]
Thought I would poke a bit of the base back out of the mist ,, this is the beauty of using oil or fake oil paints as I am doing here , if you dont like it you can allways alter it ,, unlike the one hit live show water colours , which I think IMO why so many people ger frustrated and give up with them , which is a shame cause IF you can get it right watercolours are so rewarding . Gonna be doing a difficult one this weekend
[/IMG]
Dunno if anyone is following or has any opinions on what I am trying to do here ?? If you do please share your thoughts good or otherwise , I am here to learn so any criticism is welcomed ,, just please bear in mind this is a long way off finished .
Cheers Nigel
That looks like someones dropped a cornetto next to some broccoli leanin on a turd.
I never could read art
I'm gonna recreate that.
Give me 5 mins
Nige, I'm following every step, you're a magician man. It is really beginning to take shape, it's looking really beautiful. Ignore Dill!
Gotta keep him on his toes KW

BTW I also agree with you in so much as if it was what I call proper oil paint it would shine through a lot better .
TBH this is a bit like the blind leading the blind I am just really doing an excersise in pushing this paint around to see what it will do and how it behaves , it,s cheaper than proper oil , and the only advantage I can see with it so far is its easy to clean the brushes out , but I dont think I will become a great fan of it

Here you go ,, about as far as I can go with this one ,, hope it has inspired some of you to have a go , dig into your old imagination and shake it out them brushes !
The underlying purple theme carries on

^ Greened!
I must admit, your mountain is bloody excellent.
wont let me green, beautiful !!
Know that your just smooshing around trying to figure out this medium. Is it possible that the water soluble oils are more opaque than regular oils due to the change in the binder used? Lots of folks use a purple or violet for under-painting it seems to give a warmth to anything yellow biased as its the complement. It is used a lot in water color for portraits and for landscapes.
I know you are aware of this but the water has no sky color in it....hmm just for those watching and learning..... Any color in the sky must be reflected in the water. If you paint it in the sky it goes in the water too, even if just a tiny bit. Helps balance and ties things together so that your not reading two different paintings.
Other wise its a great exercise. Was a knife used on the mountains?
