Nice to see you back Nige and great work as per usual
Glad you're back on and sharing, great pic.
I haven't given up, but I followed Nigel's advice about a wash and fucked it up. So repainted over that and continuing on. Little bit here and there, but I'm enjoying it.
Looks a bit amateurish, but then again, I am.![]()
Next the building on the left and big banana tree on the right. Then to work on the rice.
You might want to adjust some of the tone in the line of trees and change their height in some spots... just a suggestion... the tone looks plain on my monitor maybe not in real life.... the different tones on the mountain work well.
Hey, we're all amateurs otherwise we sure as hell wouldn't be posting our stuff here.
waiting with baited breath for the total pic good work.

Forgot to add, getting the color of new rice is a real pain in the ass. I've tried it soooo many times and ended up trashing all of them.... That green is one that I can't find a solution for it not matter the blues or yellows or blacks or browns used that light green is a bitch.
EG
I agree, but I dont want to give it too much definition either, because it needs to be in the background.Originally Posted by El Gibbon

not sure about the re-bar
Joking mate ,, how a bout converging those rice field lines ? ie making them feed into the centre a bit to give it a bit of distance , I ,m not sure what green your using is is some form of viridian ? what you could do is lighten the top of that greenery up a bit and darken it underneath ,,,,,,, just a few ideas mate ,, sorry the last one I gave you never worked out .
help with mixing greens .
I use ,,,,,,, black + yellow cadmiuum light
Black + raw sienna ( warm yellows)
Distant cool ones french ultramarine + lemon yellow or cad yellow light . also you can put a tiny bit of cad red in to ring the changes
keep going mate ,, proud of your efforts ,, mabe inspire EG to get another one on here for us
All advice appreciated, Blue's advice was good, but too late (about the composition), EG's and your advice both valuable.
No need to say sorry about me messing it up, I just didn't get it right.
But anyway, I'll keep messing around and will update again at some point in the future.
Cheers both!

And hey, at least ya recognized it was rebar!![]()
But I thought I had made the lines converge a bit!not enough?
Try putting a little tiny dot in the centre mate and re drawing them up toward that point ,, not exactly but more in that direction
Here is an excellent tutorial on two point perspective..... Very experienced artist and sells well...
Although he is speaking of urban landscapes etc... the idea and principles are the same... The viewpoint ( where the viewer see him/herself in the picture) or where you want them to enter is key to deciding on the eventual horizon.
You might well have seen some of Rob,s ( Neo,s ) pics in his Hurst Castle thread , several of them interest me ,, today I have had a quick go at this one ,,,
First up is a pastel rendition of it
Secondly a watercolour of the same shot , think I like this one the best of the 2 ,, mainly because I dont have the correct pastel colours , the ones I have are for landscape really , but it just shows a bit of a contrast .
Thanks for the inspiration Rob![]()
I thought your drawing was fantastic Willy, honestly. I could never do that in a million years.Originally Posted by kingwilly

Well its about time eh? Between moving house (oh Gawd... next to Marmers.... getting loaded about every night, again Gawd Marmers) going on a little vaca to the beach and the normal b crap of everyday life, haven't painted much. Have been watching vids on acrylic painting a lottttt.
Here is the latest, one I'm kinda happy with since its the first time doing something other than landscape or still life. Background done with a patette knife the rest with bristle brushes.
I think this is the sixth or so try at acrylics and it seems to get easier, at least slightly each time. Having most of my limited experience in watercolor its been a real eye opener.
All W&N paints on a stretched canvas panel 9 1/2 x 8 inches or so.

Well Flock me.... can't get the pic to load...

^ Just let me know if you need the help of a Limey, mate...
Anyway, I shared a few photos with Mr Gibbon and he quite likes one I call Burma Ahoy ('cos it looking over towards Burma, innit). Here's the original...
I didn't like the shrubbery getting in the way, so I got rid of it in Photoshop. I also boosted the contrast a bit and overlaid a subtle colourwash. Much happier with this...
Mr Gibbon said he was going to paint a version of this, so I said I would too. I actually did this in Powerpoint and then bunged it into Photoshop to play with a few effects. I like this one best.
Mr Gibbon thought the central layers were too similar, so I said I'd take a look and do another version with greater contrast. But upon revisiting it, I think he's talking bollocks, so I'm leaving it as it is.
WELL here is the photo/pic, loaded perfectly well on this site
5 Bar Swallotail - WetCanvas
sorry about having to click on something else.. but flock it tired of messing with it
Damn, now gotta go and rework my version.... leaning the tree on the left INTO the pic slightly will give you a much better perspective and overall composition. Including the existing diagonals this will make it more balanced... Nice that I can rework this, since its acrylic its not too much hassle.
Gland you found the original mate.

BTW thankyou for your stirling digital effort here , however that piece no way is related to a Jackson Pollox
I would think that kind of thing would sell if printed on a canvas box , its the kinda thing people seem to like these days , contempory stuff is out the window , but I just like to do it.
