To be honest, with this unknown pitch, what would be best for us if we win the toss.

If the first day has grass, then we have a chance to bowl the poms out cheaply.

But if the pitch will crack up later in the game then batting last will be tough

Report: ECB wants Gabba banned as a venue for future Ashes series due to 'boorish' crowd

THE England and Wales Cricket Board has reportedly asked Cricket Australia to consider wiping the Gabba as a venue for future Ashes series after complaining about the "boorish" behaviour of the crowd during the first Test.

In his column for The Telegraph , UK, former England fast bowler Derek Pringle reported that so incensed was the ECB by the intensity of the anti-England sentiment in the Gabba crowd that the team would be reluctant to play there in future.

"Senior members of the England and Wales Cricket Board at the match were so astounded by the behaviour of Australia's supporters, in particular their puerile chants of "Broad is a w<hr>," that representations have been made to Cricket Australia about the possibility of not playing there on future tours," Pringle wrote.

"Whether the fans or the tasteless propaganda in the local press drove the players, especially Australia's, to evermore aggressive taunts, remains unanswered, but, whatever the reason, it took many, Alastair Cook's team included, by surprise."

The on-field sledging has taken centre stage in the wash up to the first Test but crowd behaviour has largely gone unchallenged until now.

But asked in a press conference about the general atmosphere at the Gabba, and the role the crowd had played in the spirit of the game, Cook responded with this: "Some of those scenes were ugly at the end of the game.

"We do have a duty to play the game in the right way.

"We do want to play tough cricket, just like Australia do, but we have to make sure we stick to those boundaries and as captain I bear responsibility for that.

"(Match referee Jeff Crowe) has had a chat with me, but we all know the responsibilities we have when we pull on the shirt.

"No matter how much emotion there is in the game, we know how many people are watching us and we have got to behave appropriately.

"It shouldn't be a tea party, though. People pay good money to see tough, competitive cricket.

"That is what people love about the Ashes or any competitive cricket."

Whinging poms just can't take what they dish out can they.

I remember every English crowd booing Ponting on his last couple of yours there. Disgraceful stuff.

The last two ashes test matches here have been lost by the team winning the toss though.

And Warner got out to a shot typical of a team that has been doing rather a lot of basking in the glory of one solitary test win, so hope there for England.
