Bad day. Could've been worse, but a bad day nonetheless.

Tomorrow is a big day for this series. Things can change around quickly, but tomorrow needs to be England's day.

Nothing's turning around in this test.

I suspect Cook will quit the captaincy after this series, England are in a shambles and his batting has gone to shit.

Personally I will be happy if England end up tomorrow at 330-3, make them bowl all day, and then make them bowl Sunday as well.

With the short turn around Harris will probably break down and Johnson will have blisters on his feet in Perth.

If we are 1-0 down after Perth I'll be happy.

Boycott doesn't think they are capable of winning......

I understand the match situation very well Bob.

The difference is you are used to how England play, and I am used to how Australia plays.

Harris has an economy rate of 0.6 after 5 overs. MJ 1.2!

Have patience 'Arry. He is a quality batsman on a poor run. It'll come good. Not sure when, but it'll come good. Maybe 2014 or 2015...

We've still got some good players in there. The current 2 at the crease have some quality, Piettersen and Bell to come in; it's not all bad, but we have to dig in and show some grit. Now's the time...

He won't come good while he's got the captaincy, mark my words. He wouldn't be the first England batsman to suffer this way either.

^ The English Captaincy has always seemed something of a hot potato and has broken almost all who have held it it seems.

Of course you would be. That ain't gonna happen though because

1.Your guys are scared. ( I hope little Root doesn't have any broken ribs hehe )

You are wrong there Bob.

Even if England manage to miraculously bat out the day, we only use MJ and Harris in short spells, and our other 4 recognized bowlers and part timers can carry most of the load.

Well...he scored hundred after hundred when he got it, one in each of his first 4 or 5 tests as captain.....

Not just a problem in England.

It's very possible we'll have a good day with the bat tomorrow.

Not everyone is firing, but I see some good performances with the bat tomorrow against this very average bowling 'attack'...

batting out for a draw is tough when you start it from day two.

i like carberry's style. hard to believe he's a graduate of the thump and run school.

but yeah - it looks like it could be a long tour for the england lads from here.

i guess the upside for england would have to be that if australia don't win from this position then the the doubts will start to gnaw.

especially when they have guys like steve smith onboard, who are clearly not good enough for this level.

It'd be a miracle....Wally told me.

I think it will take at least two tests (this one and Perth) to dent Australias confidence.

You only have to look and see how high Wally's flying to see that......

Things can turn around very quickly. After day 1 of the first test, England were looking good...

If the Aussies don't win this match from here (I suspect it's 50/50) then they will be asking questions...

But, there have been some good Aussie innings and decent (though average) bowling. They are having the better of it, that's for sure. As Wally and Willy know well, the Aussies always win the majority of sessions, but not always the right sessions...
