    BBC commentary -

    WICKET - Carberry c Lyon b Siddle 14 (Eng 20-2)

Are you kidding me? I really don't know how to break this news to you. A second England batsman is caught out the long leg boundary. Michael Carberry learned nothing from the stupidity of his captain and falls in exactly the same manner. Short from Peter Siddle, pulled towards Nathan Lyon, who takes a very good catch falling backwards. Ridiculous. Carberry hangs his head and trudges off. Don't head for the dressing room, walk straight back to the hotel.

Fall of wickets: 1-1 (Cook), 2-20 (Carberry 14)

Geoffrey Boycott, Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
"I was asked this morning on BBC Radio 5 live, how I would be thinking if I were Cook and Carberry. I'd have been thinking 'play to drinks', and two of them are already out. Whatever was said in that meeting last night, two of them can't have been listening. It's brainless in this situation."

    Nice made up story.

The BBC broadcast it ten minutes before the start of play
Oh well, 10 minutes then Bob. You do love to nitpick don't you.

I was just relaying what the commentators were saying

The channel nine guys said ten minutes.

The minimum amount of time allowable is seven minutes, to allow the captain of the batting side to call for the pitch to be rolled.

So if Clarke had declared fewer than seven minutes before the start time then the start would have been delayed.

Since your whole point was that you found the amount of time amusingly short, it seems odd that you're saying Bob is 'nitpicking' when he points out that 5 minutes was incorrect.

Maybe you need to find some more informed commentary.

Fantastic bit of fielding from shit for brains.

Major difference in test cricket from the old days. Things like that keep the pressure on. Root would be 52 against most fielders

I'm loving the way Root smiles when Johnson and Watson are yapping at him......

Fair play great reaction from one so young.

Big Merv was telling a great story about Robin Smith on the radio recently, very funny if you want to listen to the podcast.

It basically came about because Smith was told how to annoy Merv when he was sledging, but made the mistake of telling Allan Border that he knew...... Very good stuff.

    Last session of play begins.

It's time to wrap it up, so we can have an extra day off before Perth.

    6 wickets this session please.

Boycott analyzing Stokes first innings batting. Not enough top hand he says.
How can you tell that from two hits?

Not easy for any team to do that, Willy. How many times did the Aussies bat for 120 overs during the recent Ashes series in England?

Anyways, it's a fair test, so let's see if the batsmen can put up a bit of a fight for the first time in this series. If we could bat through today and upto lunch tomorrow that'd be a move in the right direction. Aussies well on top...

I wonder if Cook will hold on and embarrass himself for another 6 innings or if he'll quit and go home for Christmas. Not much point in him being there if he's going to play like a tailender. He should at least demote himself.
