^ our batting has been awful, I fully agree; but, worse still, the Aussies have successfully attacked us through the media and their playing style. My comment is that cricket is not about pure aggression and bile, it's a sport of skill, mind control and mutual respect. I'd like to see the England team get back into this philosophy in order to blunt the opposition... How the Aussies decide to play is up to them, but I'd like to see us rise above it and show a bit more class.

But cricket has never been "cricket".
Batsmen rarely ever walk, bowlers will appeal when they know it's not out, players claim grassed catches. Match fixing was always there, WC Grace refused to leave the crease after being bowled, ball tampering, bowlers running on the pitch, pitch doctoring for the home bowlers. Aussies didn't invent sledging, Waugh was just very good at it.
I disagree. I was watching the highlights, and the aggression/anger by some players towards others when they got them out was over the top. The entire series has been over the top (I'm blaming both sides to a degree). It might be normal for you, but it's not normal for me and detracts from the experience. I am not alone in making this comment, many articles have been written on this subject. I'd like to see both teams having a bit more (actually, a lot more) respect for the sport and for their opponents. Folks such as Flower and Cook can do this from the England side, and should, hopefully they have already. & from the Australian side???

^ We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Aust lead by 530 with 7 wickets.
Bat 15, 20 overs tommorow hitting lots of balls to Cook and Root before declaring.

It's certainly a challenging position, but, based on nothing at all, I have faith.

The Ashes is a long standing rivalry with deep cultural and sporting elements. Sometimes, the cricket gets lost; I suspect this was the case since day 1 - the convicts always had something to prove...

(& doing so very well at the moment; although lacking class...)

Betty, I've gone through the match and can't actually see all this aggression you are on about during dismissals.

Everyone in these picks seems to be smiling and laughing...

^horrible horrible pics N99 - can you delete them all please...

What a miserable couple of days to follow English cricket. I just can see us regrouping from this slaughtering; I hope I'm wrong and we win the next 3 tests - but where's our inspiration gonna come from?

Certainly the most influential bowler/player in the series thusfar by a country mile. It's a shame he is so gay.

Ashes: Australia decline follow-on after more Mitchell Johnson heroics

Mitchell Johnson claimed 7-40 as England's batting line-up capitulated again to give Australia total command of the second Ashes Test in Adelaide.

England were bowled out for 172 at tea on day three, Johnson taking six wickets in the afternoon session, while Ian Bell played a lone hand with 72 not out.

Quite straight up reporting from Newscorp, our no 1 sportschannel (Aussie/American owned). Below is our gutter press.

Magic Johnson is England's nemesis again! Aussie paceman takes another six wickets as shambolic tourists capitulate in Adelaide

Mitchell Johnson warned England in advance of the second Test in Adelaide that he was born to be bad. Bad for them, that is.

On day three of an Ashes series that is fast becoming a personal statement of his irresistible talent, Johnson proved as good as his word and far too good for a spineless England batting line-up that crumpled in a heap against him for the third time in three innings.

Cricket: Ashes Live 2013: Mitchell Johnson rips through England again
ENGLAND have suffered a monumental collapse in Adelaide

England came out after the lunch break looking to improve on the poor showing and try to save the second Test.

But pace man Mitchell Johnson had other ideas.

The scourge of England took six wickets for just nine runs.

Zero bile for the opponents from our press. A distinct difference from the convict versions...

It'd be hard to find any national press harder on their own than England. I recall some time ago walking into a pub in Kent not knowing what happened in the cricket that day (it was Eng vs Oz and the Aussies were doing well that tour with Warne in top form) but it didn't take long to figure out who was on top. The headline across the back page of some bloke sitting at the bar reading the evening paper read: GUTLESS 11 PLUNDER TO NEW DEPTHS!.

A bit over the top you'd reckon, but there it was...

It may be "Off with their heads" if they went back home today.

The only English cricketer I think should have received this honour would be Freddy Flintoff. Won a series almost on his own and whilst carrying injuries.

Anyway, still 3 and a bit tests to go and I won't say too much until the fat lady has sung.

Hahahah... Flintoff didn't deserve a knighthood and nor have any of the others gotten them so it makes Necrons factual post look like what it was.........

    ........ A load of shite

I think it's just an equipment problem.
The pommy bats all seem to be looking for a lost contact lense or something...

After putting your gibberish in Google translate a few times, I think you are commenting about the lack of crowds at the game. The main stand that's empty is still under construction and has no facilities, but it is finished enough to allow fans in for free on the lowest section.

The sponsors seem to be calling the tune atm. Neither Cook in the last 2 series and Clarke in this one has enforced the follow-on.

On England's first innings showing the game would have been all over on the 3rd day meaning a couple of days of golf before heading to Perth.. Bummer only having one round now.

I doubt that decision was a sponsor's one. The danger with enforcing a follow on here was tiring out your bowlers and giving the batsmen a chance to regroup on a flat track.

Nope, just sad to see the way the world has gone.

There is a saying 'it just isn't cricket'. That saying had strong meaning for me, and when it no longer applies to cricket, that's rather sad... I know that the 'great' Aussie team rather set the scene for its demise, and I'm aware that this English team could act with more class too. The day that the Ashes tests become closer to Premier League thuggery is a sad one, imho...

Sledging has always been part of the game Betty.

I like the way Anderson came out publicly and said not only had no boundries been crossed in australia, he considers sledging a "skill"

VOCAL England paceman James Anderson says he's developed his sledging as a "skill'' because it helps his game and he'll keep dishing it out to Australia. Anderson, the focal point of the most controversial incident in the first Ashes Test at the Gabba, also says he has no problem with anything said to him by Australian players so far in the series.
"I have absolutely no problem about any of what the Australians were doing on the field,'' Anderson wrote in his column in Britain's Mail on Sunday.
"I probably dish it out more than most in the field, so I generally get it back more than most. I expect it and accept it.''
Anderson claimed sledging was a key part of what has made him the bowler he is.
"I try to get myself into a battle,'' he said. "It heightens my concentration. Certainly in the past few years I think I've developed it as a skill and it has helped me take the wickets that I have.''
I will be disappointed if we manage to take this series - even whitewash it, and some of glory is taken away by illusional accusations of poor sportsmanship. England have been no less graceful in their recent series wins. Basically, stop whinging Betty and try to be a good sport
