I had to look this up because as a Pom I have no interest in toy cricket. We're 3rd in the world a mere 6 points behind the Ockers.Originally Posted by Wally Dorian Raffles

Keep waffling Dorian......
I've no interest in one day cricket and have never claimed otherwise as anyone here will know.
I cannot tell you who has won the world cups in ODI's since Pakistan won in 1992, and I can't tell you who has won any of the T20's.
I had a period where I watched the IPL because it suited me nicely after a family loss but since I left the UK that time I've never seen another game.
But hey keep repeating your theories, say them often enough at least you will perceive them to be true and as they say, perception is reality so you'll be happy.
Bless your little cotton socks eh......
^ thought that one would bring you out of the woodwork Bob.
This thread would be much more interesting if you guys would post some stats, opinions etc. on players and teams etc ...

I've posted plenty of opinions on players, read the thread where we discussed great cricket teams and my love of the West Indies who hammered us time and time again in ways Australia could match during their hey day..... and guess what.... it was all pre 2005.
Well, that's good to hear Bob as I do know quite a few English people who truly refused to acknowledge any interest in cricket when we were beating you time and time again.
Not anymore though.
The same boring drivel though usually. Bit like your soccer fans with variations of the chant "scoreboard scoreboard "
Look at Betty's posts to for instance - there are only 3 variations.
1. 3-0
2. 0-5
3. Big gay pictures.
Marmite's are even worse - and I know for a fact he never admitted to liking cricket pre- 2005. Magpie and I almost kicked him out of my place in thonglor as he wouldn't watch the game , and kept on banging on about things nothing to do with the game while we were trying to watch an ashes test . True story
And Harry's posts - they demonstrate the intelligence and knowledge of the sport of a chip butty...

Bit like your fans in Aus last time out Wally don't you remember all those empty seats ?
my football fans?
Don't even stoop to a level of associating me with England's football fans............
Stadiums in Australia that are 75% empty still hold more people than full stadiums in England.
Which days of which tests were empty? Facts please. I bet the most popular tests on the best days were crowded.
Nothing to do with winning or losing. I think a lot Aussies were more bored with the game when all we did was win.
If Australians are bored of winning how come they didn't support the last series as well as in the past when the cricket was always going to be exciting and the results unknown in advance like they were for so long?
The last day of the Gabba was around 15% capacity when the result was still in doubt.....
That said, I wouldn't support the claim that the crowds were that shabby for some of the days.

The honest truth is, cricket is a dying sport in many respects. It is certainly less popular in australia than it used to be.
Some of the crowds for test matches in India are pitiful.
I don't think the crowds were that good at certain stages of the matches in the recent England Ashes either - and as i have stated, the stadiums are much smaller - so it creates an illusion that crowds are bigger. A full stadium in England would only be 30% capacity in the big australian venues.
T20, sadly, is the only format that packs the stadiums, and the ICC only care about money these days - as do the cricket boards of all cricket playing nations. It really pisses me off the way the people in charge schedule every series with money being more important than the growth of players and the team.
The fact that we are in India now playing a meaningless 7 match ODI series instead of doing all we can to prepare our team for the biggest cricket event on the world stage is proof.
I am hoping to have a civilized discussion about this ....... but i won't hold my breath..
^ Bullshit.
the fact of that matter is that the stadiums were full at the start of the series and when you lot had lost it, the fair-weather aussie 'fans' showed their true colours.
They don't show up in any great number over here in their mother land either, unlike our lot even during the bad times.
Corrected. And a fine theatre of sport it is too, been a long time since it sold out for a test match though, maximum in the last Ashes series was Boxing day at 84%.Originally Posted by Wally Dorian Raffles

.... and remember the Brits are busy running the world so were not available for 3 of the 5 days.....
Being too busy to watch 5 days of sport in this day and age is certainly not just a British thing Bob. Running the world. lol. Sorry to break the news, but the Empire is long dead..... and remember the Brits are busy running the world so were not available for 3 of the 5 days.....
I'm not speaking to you anymore...Originally Posted by Wally Dorian Raffles
