Still don't get the peas on the back of a fork though.
There are significant differences in etiquette though. The biggest difference is the fork being passed to the dominant hand by Americans, whereas it remains in the weaker hand in the UK. It means that Americans often cut their meat into pieces before eating - which is cute as that is what we do for kids in UK......

Not for me or any anyone I know. I hold the fork in my left hand (I am right handed) and use the steak knife with my right.

I guess this is all wrong, then...

    http://https://www.etiquettescholar.com/dining_etiquette/table-etiquette/na_table_manners/american.html

After cutting food, the knife is laid down and the fork is switched to the right hand, to eat the cut food.

Seems like that to stumpy and I. I also dont see anybody coming on board saying, "yup, I cut my food and then eat with my right hand".

Well, a sample size of about four isn't really representative.

Though I'm not saying your statements are incorrect, of course.

I do wonder why 'Yellowstone Publishing LLC' would put that on their site if it has no basis, though.

Well I had never heard of a person using a fork backwards to eat peas either.

Odd. Seems like a ton of wasted effort but then again if you are eating dinner with a royal family and the King and Queen are present then one must abide by the rules. Thankfully in the US we do not have such rules and no King and Queen crap. So we cut the meal and put it in our mouths to eat.

In our house growing up there were only 5 basic rules of table etiquette.

    1. Always wash your hands before sitting down for a meal
    2. Never put your elbows on the table
    3. Never belch at the table
    4. Never fart at the table
    5. Always pass the served food to the right.

There were a few others and I would have to ask my pops. There was never any special utensil mandate or control.

I was the cut my food up with the knife in my right hand then switching to the fork in my right hand until my Australian girlfriend corrected such uncouth behavior.

I think if one of your rules has to be don't fart at the table then the bar isn't that high in regard to etiquette

Thus the basis of American table etiquette......no release of body gases, proper use of elbows (if they're on the table, it makes it awkward to elbow your brother) and you're good to go. Oh, and don't swear at the table was a rule too, unless you're talking about a politician, then it's expected. It's also very impolite to say the MFing waitress forget to bring my beer, the silly bitch when your less than 10 years old or dining with your grandparents.

    Tables?

We ate off our laps with a newspaper or magazine to stop us getting burnt through the plate.

You’re a fool if you think that’s incinerated. It was a perfect medium rare nicely charred on the outside.

    You mean "micely" ?

I've had Lao neighbors; I know a burnt rat when I see one

Didn't the smell of burnt fur give it away ?

    Fries look good though
