There are some nice dinners going on above...
I bought some new pans, some potatoes, a vegetable that looked like leaves and tasted like spinach once cooked (very cheap), and some chicken fillets. Let the culinary lesson begin:
OK, it's a bit bland, but tasted really nice. The potatoes tasted really really good, I'll be buying some butter and getting these potatoes again...
Cycling should be banned!!!
As easy as it would be for me to tear that dinner apart on so many levels as partial payback, I won't. But I will say it was perhaps just a sauce or some spices away from looking / tasting anything like bland, and thanks for making the effort to post the pics.
Well done, you have mastered the art of boiling the fuck out of something..
Are you on a diet?

Nice effort, Bets.....even coming across rather simple and bland.
An alternative [for what you have] would have been to thrown the whole mess into the making of a salad - cooled chicken, potatoes slightly undercooked to retain their form, and raw greens. All cut into salad sized portions.
A lovely basil vinaigrette emulsified would top it off nicely.
Proper food.

the chips are a bit different, mate.
^^ That's three restaurant steaks in 3 days.
I'm calling foul.
Sounds very nice, but after around 15 years of rice in various places (ME and Asia), I really really enjoyed simple potatoes. I'm gonna be having more, maybe some mash with some condiments/butter - I did but some Italian herb mix in a grinder, so that could be adding something to the pots next time.Originally Posted by thaimeme
The pots were perfect, not overcooked at all. The spinach was a tad underdone, but the pots were ready and I was hungry...Originally Posted by Necron99
No diet, should be - had no condiments or sources; rectified that yesterday - now have some cooking stuff such as cheese grater, potato peeler and garlic crusher too - the kitchen is expanding. Have no bloody oven though, so if I sign another 1 year contract then I'll look to get a nice little oven/microwave number.
You should see my breakfast muffins in the Brunch thread, yummy they were!
You are right. I will try to do better next time.Originally Posted by Headworx

Yeah, Korea is great for fresh food. The potatoes are really nice and were cheap. I've been buying fruit and veg which is more similar to the UK options than the Thai options (I suppose it's the seasonal climate?). Korea is proving to be very nice, a great place for food. Though, to be fair, Thailand is a great place for food too.Originally Posted by thaimeme
You cooks would be very pleased to shop in Korea, lots and lots of options. From my shopping a couple of days ago:

A bit of chilli this evening.

Home baked rolls..
Mayo, carrots, roast beef, balsamic onions and mustard....
It was delicious, was going to have another today but the bloody dog stole my other roll from the counter.....
Bastard.
Not sure if I'll get boo'ed for adding a Thai food post to this thread, but here goes. As much as I like farang food, there's not much to be had in my area. I suppose I could get very creative with some local ingredients, but that's a bit too much effort for me.
Here's a spread from one of the better local restaurants a few nights ago. Included are roast pork with spicy dipping sauce, fried dried pork, sticky rice and somtam. The somtam is made without pla ra and the smashed crab bits. We'll alternate between the fried dried pork and fried dried beef when they have it. We go back once or twice a month and always go away satisfied.
