I think the Prime Minister will regret having hitched himself so firmly to the " rising star " that is the Royal Thai Police's handling of this particular frame- up.

Politically, it was inept of him to so closely align himself to a cause which would have been recognised in any decent country as lost the day it began. But then, old habits die hard and in the past hoodwinking a credulous public was all that was needed.

The internet has put paid to that. Whether they like it or not, Thai people the world over are now demanding a higher standard and in the end what passes for authority in this country will eventually recognise, sometimes, truth and justice is easier.

    A great cartoon that.

Cronyism between Prayuth, Suthep, the island chiefs who ran Democrat campaigns, and the new police chief could be much stronger than anyone could ever see. I think they are still stoking the boilers for the end run. Is there any news out of the testimony today?

The Thais should start a website to review there local police districts, that would be interesting.

Now this CSI LA has started there will be copy cat web pages all over the net now, no need to be on the streets anymore, the govt would have to shut down the web.

Easy just to get a group of lads in bangkok together, smash him in the head with a hoe, and scoop up some of his blood from the pavement? At least then you would not have to risk another white chick getting raped and murdered by the little shit.

Haven't seen it, and not surprised to hear they are all chums. That allegiance to each other to hide a monster hoe killer might be what finally does them in.

Doubt it - they will bluff through it as usual, smiling their shit eating grins, whilst thinking "Bloody farangs! Coming to Thailand and getting themselves raped and killed and causing all this shit. Why can't they all just fuck off and post us their money a couple of times a year!"?

that will down well with the thais.

You are just a keyboard detective with a wild imagination and can't stop thinking. Since we are the police, we can take criticism. Your opinion also affects our society. BBC News - British tourist murders: Plea for trial delay rejected

A plea to postpone the start of the pre-trial hearings of two Burmese men charged with the murder of two UK tourists in Thailand has been rejected.

Defence lawyers wanted a delay to allow more time to prepare.

The men apparently confessed to the killings earlier this month. Police have denied subsequent reports the pair then withdrew their confessions.

Hannah Witheridge, 23, and 24-year-old David Miller were killed in an attack on the island of Koh Tao last month.

The police investigation into the murders has been widely criticised, with the Foreign Office in London expressing concern.

Three witnesses are due to give pre-trial testimony at the court on the island of Koh Samui on Tuesday.

The two Burmese suspects, identified as "Saw" and "Win", both aged 21, are charged with conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to rape and robbery.

Lawyers representing the pair have argued for the proceedings to be postponed because they say they have been allowed too little time to prepare a defence.

Thai police have been criticised for allegedly not allowing lawyers or translators to be present when the suspects were questioned.

A typical hatchet job. No private access to their clients granted prior to commencement of the trial. Horrendous behavior but completely expected by these corrupt bastards.

UK Envoy Meets Officials On KT Murders

    Bangkok Post
    October 14, 2014
    Writer: AFP

BANGKOK - Britain's top envoy in Thailand met Thai and Myanmar officials in Bangkok Tuesday to discuss the investigation into the murder of two British tourists, amid concerns over the handling of the case.

Thai police have charged two migrant workers from Myanmar with the murder of David Miller, 24, and the rape and murder of Hannah Witheridge, 23, after the tourists' battered bodies were found on the southern island of Koh Tao on September 15.

Police have said the men confessed to the crime and their DNA matched samples taken from Witheridge's body. But unease over the case has deepened amid reports that the suspects were tortured into confessing -- an allegation Thailand has strongly denied.

British Ambassador Mark Kent told AFP he was meeting with the Thai police, foreign ministry officials and his Myanmar counterpart, without giving further details.

Before the meeting an official from the Myanmar president's office in Naypyidaw told AFP he hoped the talks "would help bring a fair and genuine investigation" into the case, which many have accused Thai authorities of mishandling. "We hope Thai authorities will act with balance and accuracy to prosecute the offenders according to the law and not take action wrongly against those who didn't commit the crime," he said, requesting anonymity.

On Monday the British government summoned Thailand's top diplomatic representative in London to stress "real concern" about the handling of the investigation. In a statement junior foreign minister Hugo Swire "reiterated that the UK police stood ready to assist with the investigation and subsequent legal process".

It is unclear if Thailand has responded to the offer of help.

The arrests followed intense scrutiny of Thai authorities, which had been accused -- in criticism led by the British media -- of bungling the investigation in the days after the crime. The grisly murders on the normally tranquil Thai island delivered a fresh blow to the kingdom's image as a tourist haven after months of political protests that ended in May's army coup.

It's a lynching. Plain and simple.

And like most railroaded patsies they're going to pay quicker than it takes for an Isaan whore to clear a bank account.

Still, I shall not forget this in a hurry and in the meantime will continue my brief to dissuade people from travelling here.

It's the best I can do and in time I too shall be gone from this awful place and it's disgusting society of greedy, sly, deceitful hypocrites.

    Indeed so, Sid...

Just a hypothetical to throw at you and perhaps others.

Would this subsequent fuck-up, cover-up, and mind boggling display of investigative incompetence, and clear miscarriage of justice play itself out the same if scenarios were different and Thailand was under a civilian democratic government?

I personally don't believe so. The theatre would have evolved one and the same.
    As would the rhetorical drama.

I get this underlying sense that many feel that this tragedy and Thai follow up would have been different if not under a military Junta regime.

Not necessarily any differently- but there is a scuttlebutt political angle, that I can neither confirm or deny. It is rumoured that the 'influential absconders' (if they indeed exist) were previously PDRC guards- and of course, they are said to hail from Suthepland central, aka Surat Thani. Not suggesting any dodgy political affiliation between the yellows/ PDRC/ Phra Suthep and an impartial Thai military, of course- especially not the Eastern Tigers- but there is indeed a rumour mill flourishing out there in the blogosphere. One can only hope and trust these baseless rumours are firmly extinguished, because if the distraught suspects commit suicide prior to this, the rumourmongers will of course consider themselves vindicated.

Please stop referring to the correct culprits as "Burmese". They are "migrant workers". This is the correct information and attitude, and has been passed to the media who are to comply.

    Signed,

Lot's of pressure on the leadership. He could do the right thing but the amount of money to protect the privileged and to drive the Burmese suspects up the river must be astounding.

I borrowed the thought from Davis but they are too deep into the lie to back out now. A few idiots running a island bar are not worth this, but to backtrack would admit lying.

Doubt it - they will simply say "we have enough evidence. Trust us. Do not listen to the conspiracy theories" (Dubya Bush style)

Now where is the point in that? No chance of a swift conviction if they allowed that. No doubt they will say "Yes, the defense has had ample opportunity to investigate the evidence against the accused" and the defense will say "No we haven't"

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha meanwhile welcomed the idea, saying the Thai government is willing to explain the full details of the case, since officers have been handling the matter competently.
He really is digging in deeper. Completely naive, and one would almost think that he himself is being very badly advised how to deal with this. Complete support for the police buffoons. Unrelenting support. Capping this off with an accusation that the Brits are a bit simple and do not understand things well. Bloody cheek.
