The Global Analysis for January 2015 is up at NOAA.

    Some highlights,…….

China observed its warmest January since national records began in 1961, at 1.9°C (3.4°F) above the 1981–2010 average.

Austria reported its 17th warmest January in its 248-year period of record, at 2.7°C (4.9°F) above the 1981–2010 average. The east saw the highest departures from average, reaching up to +3.8°C (+6.8°F).

In Norway the average temperature was 2.6°C (4.7°F) above the 1961–1990 average. Some regions in the eastern part of the country had departures 5–7°C (9–11°F) higher than average.

It was a bit cooler than average in Spain during January, with a temperature 0.4°C (0.7°F) below the 1981–2010 average.

Hottest 12 Months On Record Globally Thanks To Warm January, Reports NASA

In January, the planet continued the warming trend that made 2014 the hottest calendar year on record. NASA reports that last month was the second-hottest January on record (after 2007), while the Japan Meteorological Agency ranked it the hottest.

Significantly, there has never been as hot a 12-month period in NASA’s database as the previous 12 months (February 2014–January 2015). This is using a 12-month moving average, so we can “see the march of temperature change over time,” rather than just once every calendar year.

While it has been cold for those of us living in a slice of the eastern and northeastern U.S., the rest of the country and the globe is quite warm, with large parts of North America and Asia experiencing nearly off-the-charts heat. That’s clear in the NASA chart below for January temperatures, whose upper range extends to a whopping 8.1°C (14.6°F) above the 1951-1980 average!

What’s remarkable is that we keep breaking the 12-month global temperature record even though we still haven’t started an El Niño. It is usually the combination of the underlying long-term warming trend and the regional El Niño warming pattern that leads to new global temperature records, as NASA has explained.

But the human-caused warming is simply too strong to be denied, as it were. If we want to slow it down and ultimately stop it before it destroys a livable climate, it will take some serious cuts in carbon pollution ASAP.

    ____________

And before some idiot posts some cherry picked graph showing that it hasn’t warmed in 18 years 007.842433 months (not land or sea), I’ll post the full graph from the remss.com site (satellite information) showing that it is warming in the troposphere.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Conservative black gay chicks are a serious threat to the liberal front. It's just does not fit into the proper niche. Blackness; gayness, minority status or even general weirdness should be reserved for the left.

If this kind of thing is allowed to spread, the poor fucking liberals will be so confused, many of them might even vote republican accidently....

It is causing it and it has been pointed out before to you in this thread by me in fact. You are to dense to see it because you like most far right loons have your head buried so far up big oil/money that you will deny anything that disrupts the status quo.

It is called the polar vortex and it is reality. As this phenomenon continues to get worse every year you science denying loons will continue to look more and more stupid until the whole world will finally turn its back on your utter idiocy.

You are a peculiar fellow aren't you? In other threads you speak out against the Oligarchs, banks and big oil and then you take the completely opposite tack in this thread. You are aware that big oil and the Kock brothers are the ones behind the science denial movement are you not?

Snubbie; if you had a brain you could be quite dangerous. Fortunately all you can do is spout bollocks and call people names so the threat is minimized.....

Nobody here is in denial about either science, climate change or the interests that drive the for and against arguments, yet you keep banging away with your denier BS. To challenge or question a theory is not to deny anything. To question the accuracy and reliability of data is not denial. It's actually a big part of how real science works.

You spout the same childish nonsense in every post and it neither convinces or impresses anybody, so why not just STFU until you have at least a modicum of knowledge about the subject....there's a good boy.

I bet you've never even heard of the polar vortex until SL posted about it...and I bet you don't really have a clue about what it is or what causes it. .....but we all know you are intimate with the intrigues of the Koch family and how they manage everything that's wrong in your world.

So, Mr Snubbie; what's your solution to this apparent warming trend? Should we shut down the oil industry; coal and gas? stop driving; build windmills on every patch of earth ? Off you go now to your favorite loonie sites and try to formulate something that will save us all from the depredations of the infamous Koch brothers......

The scientists are already done with this part of it. The only ones who are questioning any theory are people who are not legitimately respected by their scientific peers or are not even scientists.

It is a smear campaign funded by big oil pure and simple.

I know precisely what it is and have for sometime. You shouldn't waste your time making assumptions that you have no clue about.

I live in Seattle and grew up around the fishing industry I know loads of people that live full time and others who split their time living in Alaska. It is the front line of this change. I hear constantly stories about climate change is affecting their livelihoods.

Once again the only people up there happy about the changes in the climate are those that work for big oil.

It is affecting my local area as well. I walked up the street today in my neighborhood and saw flowers and trees in full bloom. There is literally no snow in the mountains that I can see from my home. The snowpack is 100 inches below the lowest recorded record.

Those changes are right in my backyard and are shocking and unprecedented.

Anyhow, I had not really intended to re-enter this pointless debate, so carry on with your "settled science" and blooming flowers in Seattle.

PS I lived for years in Victoria, BC....just up the road a bit from Seattle. It's quite normal for flowers to be blooming in February...and has been since they laid the first brick in the place....while less than a hundred miles away it's snowing like a bitch and people are freezing their asses off....FFS....

Clearly I know more than you do. The scientific community has agreed that climate change is man made and not natural. The scientific community is in 97% agreement. It is settled. Only far right loons like yourself think otherwise.

Well fuck me, imagine that. Have you checked to see if it's snowing anywhere else on the continent?

Yes indeed. East of the divide it's been snowing like a bitch and very cold... This happens quite often where one side of the country has a hard winter the other side has a mild one. How old are you Snubby?

None of this is proof on anything BTW.....just weather happening like it's been doing for a billion years....

I'm off to make a Pizza now, so stop posting nonsense. I don't have time to argue with Parrots. sorry.....

The cold snap in the NE is due to the polar vortex as has been previously pointed out.

This is not one of its more mild years this the worst year for snow pack in the cascades in recorded history by over 100 inches. If you think that is nothing unusual you need to be hit repeatedly with the stupid stick.

Deeper Ties to Corporate Cash for Doubtful Climate Researcher

For years, politicians wanting to block legislation on climate change have bolstered their arguments by pointing to the work of a handful of scientists who claim that greenhouse gases pose little risk to humanity.

One of the names they invoke most often is Wei-Hock Soon, known as Willie, a scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics who claims that variations in the sun’s energy can largely explain recent global warming. He has often appeared on conservative news programs, testified before Congress and in state capitals, and starred at conferences of people who deny the risks of global warming.

But newly released documents show the extent to which Dr. Soon’s work has been tied to funding he received from corporate interests.

He has accepted more than $1.2 million in money from the fossil-fuel industry over the last decade while failing to disclose that conflict of interest in most of his scientific papers. At least 11 papers he has published since 2008 omitted such a disclosure, and in at least eight of those cases, he appears to have violated ethical guidelines of the journals that published his work.

The documents show that Dr. Soon, in correspondence with his corporate funders, described many of his scientific papers as “deliverables” that he completed in exchange for their money. He used the same term to describe testimony he prepared for Congress.

Though Dr. Soon did not respond to questions about the documents, he has long stated that his corporate funding has not influenced his scientific findings.

The documents were obtained by Greenpeace, the environmental group, under the Freedom of Information Act. Greenpeace and an allied group, the Climate Investigations Center, shared them with several news organizations last week.

The documents shed light on the role of scientists like Dr. Soon in fostering public debate over whether human activity is causing global warming. The vast majority of experts have concluded that it is and that greenhouse emissions pose long-term risks to civilization.

Historians and sociologists of science say that since the tobacco wars of the 1960s, corporations trying to block legislation that hurts their interests have employed a strategy of creating the appearance of scientific doubt, usually with the help of ostensibly independent researchers who accept industry funding.

Fossil-fuel interests have followed this approach for years, but the mechanics of their activities remained largely hidden.

    Snip

Dr. Soon rarely grants interviews to reporters, and he did not respond to multiple emails and phone calls last week; nor did he respond to an interview request conveyed to him by his employer. In past public appearances, he has reacted angrily to questions about his funding sources, but then acknowledged some corporate ties and said that they had not altered his scientific findings.

“I write proposals; I let them decide whether to fund me or not,” he said at an event in Madison, Wis., in 2013. “If they choose to fund me, I’m happy to receive it.” A moment later, he added, “I would never be motivated by money for anything.

The newly disclosed documents, plus additional documents compiled by Greenpeace over the last four years, show that at least $409,000 of Dr. Soon’s funding in the past decade came from Southern Company Services, a subsidiary of the Southern Company, based in Atlanta.

Southern is one of the largest utility holding companies in the country, with huge investments in coal-burning power plants. The company has spent heavily over many years to lobby against greenhouse-gas regulations in Washington. More recently, it has spent significant money to research ways to limit emissions.

Yes, and I've also read in the past some scientists were paid $10,000 from corporations per article written denying / debunking climate change.

So global warming is still a myth because reasons? And also, even if it wasn't a myth, humans have nothing to do with it. And even if humans are the cause, there's nothing we can do about it because China, so we should probably just throw our hands up and ignore the problem.

    Oblig:

Denier: Climate Change caused by humans isn't real and besides there's nothing we can do because it's all caused by the sun*.

Rational people: Pretty sure the scientists around the globe have factored the sun into their theories. This is not new information.

I bet the conservatives just love him because he's one of those smart Far Eastern types who do so well on standardized tests in high school -- not one of those hang-dog jowly Anglo-Saxon goobers who make up 99 percent of their legions of ignorance.

In other words, they think they've bought legitimacy with this man.

*Note: Koman thinks Galileo was excommunicated for arguing that the sun is flat or something like that, it's hard to follow his rantings because colourful graphs documenting observations seem to send him into hissy fits.
