The earth has gone through lengthy cycles of warming and cooling long before a single barrel of oil was pumped, or a single combustion engine built, or even before homo sapiens appeared and evolved to the point of arguing and fighting over such things.

Now we have all kinds of expensive studies producing dazzlingly colorful graphs; and five thousand word essays trying to explain that this cycle is somehow different, and must be our fault. It can't possible be just another one of the same boring old cycles that has happened so many times before. We are even being assured that when the winter is excessively cold; it's caused by global warming; just the same as when it's excessively warm.

The science of global warming has become a kind of religion where members of the flock are shunned and ex-communicated for just questioning the pronouncements of the environmental clergy....much in the same way that poor old Galileo was kicked out of the church for expounding on the ridiculous idea that the earth was a sphere when every educated and well red person in the land knew it was flat. Any other suggestion was pure heresy....

American politics have no bearing on global warming, but you guys sure make capital of it, and cloud the facts with partisanship.

Touching on the big freeze in Minnesota, that cold snap is a result of a slower moving polar vortex, causing it to spread out and break up, so increasing precipitation of both cold air and moisture.

That bad weather, driven by the polar vortex is not climate change, but a short term cyclic weather event.

Global warming (not weather) as evinced by a rise in earth's ground temperature and oceans' warming are the chief indices of ongoing global warming.

All the extreme vagaries of weather that we see now are as a result of total warming, as the atmosphere responds to increased temperatures which cause heat and cold inversions to speed up and become more extreme.

So we get alternating extremes, of cold and heat, flooding and drought in the process.

2014 was UK's hottest year on record, says Met Office

2014 was the UK’s warmest year on record, figures from the Met Office show.

Provisional figures for the whole year reveal that it was the hottest for the UK in records dating back to 1910.

Last year was also the warmest in the Central England Temperature series, the longest running temperature record in the world which stretches back to 1659, recording temperatures in an area of central England.

The average temperature for the year was 9.9C, some 1.1C above the long term average, and making it warmer than the previous record year of 2006.

Same old tropes again and again when the evidence is freely available to all, hell the original data sets are available if you want them.

Eight Pseudoscientific Climate Claims Debunked by Real Scientists

    1. No, the Earth Hasn’t Stopped Warming Since 1998 (or 1996 or 1997)
    2. No, the IPCC Makes Projections, Not Predictions
    3. Yes, the Temperature Readings Are Reliable
    4. Yes, There Is a Scientific Consensus
    5. It’s Not the Sun’s Fault
    6. Doubling Down With “Global Cooling”
    7. Yes, It’s Been Warm Before
“Our planet is running a fever,” says Hayhoe, “and I can think of six or seven reasons why it could be running hot. As a scientist, you don’t just jump to conclusions. You do the tests. You say, ‘OK, could it be a natural cycle this time? Could it be the sun? Could it be volcanoes? Could it be orbital cycles and ice ages?’ We run those tests and we see if it could be any of those things that caused the climate to change naturally in the past. And in this case, we’ve run those tests and the answer to all those questions is, ‘no.’ In fact, if our temperature were controlled by natural causes right now, we’d be getting cooler, not warmer.”

There is nothing stupid about it. It is a fact that scientists who have questioned the "evidence" presented by the so called climate experts have been castigated, bullied and discredited at every opportunity by the "movement"....which is driven far more by politics than science.

It is a fact that Galileo was excommunicated by the Catholic church for his claims that the earth was not flat but a sphere, in the face of Papal edicts and the conventional scientific "wisdom" of his day.

Hence my religion analogy ....perhaps this is a bit over your head....you must be some kind of Liberal attack drone.....we have quite a few on this board.....

Are you just making things up as you go along? Galileo was NOT excommunicated, and he didn't piss of the church by saying the earth was a sphere. He pissed them off by proposing that Earth was not the center of the universe. So it seems it's a bit over YOUR head, nitwit.

So no, it is not a 'fact'. We have some lovely parting gifts for you, thanks for trying.

Now it is my turn for an analogy: If 97 (or even nine) doctors told you that you had life-threatening but treatable cancer, would you act? Or would you keep looking until you found one doctor who told you not to worry about it, that the cancer isn’t serious, and that it’s all just a medical conspiracy to sell you chemotherapy?

Lots of people do that, only to turn to conventional therapy when it is too late. I am afraid that analogy holds to that point - when it is too late.

    James Hansen

The assertion that climate scientists are being censored first surfaced in January when James Hansen, who directs NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, told the New York Times and The Washington Post that the administration sought to muzzle him after he gave a lecture in December calling for cuts in emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. (NASA Administrator Michael D. Griffin issued new rules recently that make clear that its scientists are free to talk to members of the media about their scientific findings and to express personal interpretations of those findings.

Two weeks later, Hansen suggested to an audience at the New School University in New York that his counterparts at NOAA were experiencing even more severe censorship. "It seems more like Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union than the United States," he told the crowd.

Dear Donald Trump: Winter Does Not Disprove Global Warming

An intense blizzard, appropriately named Hercules, is about to blanket the Northeast. Antarctic ice locked in a Russian ship containing a team of scientists—en route, no less, to do climate research. Record low temperatures have been seen in parts of the US, and in Winnipeg, temperatures on December 31 were as cold as temperatures on...Mars.

So as is their seasonal wont, here come the climate skeptics. Exhibit A:

This very expensive GLOBAL WARMING bullshit has got to stop. Our planet is freezing, record low temps, and our GW scientists are stuck in ice

    — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 2, 2014
And Trump isn't the only one. A similar reaction came from Congressman John Fleming, a Louisiana Republican:

"Global warming" isn't so warm these days. U.S. ushers in 2014 with record-low temps, snow - CBS News

    — John Fleming (@RepFleming) January 2, 2014
And RedState.com's Erick Erickson also piled on, blending global warming dismissal with religion:

The difference between people who believe in the 2nd coming of Jesus and those who believe in global warming is that Jesus will return.

    — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) January 2, 2014
Meanwhile, the front page of the Drudge Report listed a variety of cold weather news items under the heading, "Global Warming Intensifies..."

    Drudge Report/Climate Desk
Rush Limbaugh also weighed in, noting that the Green Bay Packers may face San Francisco in subzero temperatures at home this weekend:

LIMBAUGH: I would love to see Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Hillary sitting outside on the 50 yard line of Green Bay the whole game, and then afterwards do a presentation for us all on global warming. Sit there the whole game outside.

And last but not least, Fox Business's Stuart Varney used the Antarctic ice story to claim that "we're looking at global cooling, forget this global warming."

All of this is all wrong in ways that have all been explained before. So just a few brief observations:

    1. Statements about climate trends must be based on, er, trends. Not individual events or occurrences. Weather is not climate, and anecdotes are not statistics.

    2. Global warming is actually expected to increase "heavy precipitation in winter storms," and for the northern hemisphere, there is evidence that these storms are already more frequent and intense, according to the draft US National Climate Assessment.

    3. Antarctica is a very cold place. But global warming is affecting it as predicted: Antarctica is losing ice overall, according to the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. However, sea ice is a different matter than land-based or glacial ice. Antarctic sea ice is increasing, and moreover, the reason for this may be climate change! (For more, read here.)

Finally, just one last thing. When it's winter on Earth, it's also summer on Earth...somewhere else. Thus, allow us to counter anecdotal evidence about cold weather with more anecdotal evidence: It's blazing hot in Australia, with temperatures, in some regions, set to possibly soar above 120 degrees Fahrenheit in the coming days.

Much as lions on the Serengeti seek out vulnerable zebras at the edge of a herd, special interests faced with
adverse scientific evidence often target individual scientists rather than take on an entire scientific field at once.
Part of the reasoning behind this approach is that it is easier to bring down individuals than an entire group of
scientists, and it still serves the larger aim: to dismiss, obscure, and misrepresent well-established science and
its implications. In addition, such highly visible tactics create an atmosphere of intimidation that discourages
other scientists from conveying their research's implications to the public. This 'Serengeti strategy' is often
employed wherever there is a strong and widespread consensus among the world's scientists about the under-
lying cold, hard facts of a field, whether the subject be evolution, ozone depletion, the environmental impacts of
DDT, the health effects of smoking, or human-caused climate change. The goal is to attack those researchers
whose findings are inconvenient, rather than debate the findings themselves. This article draws upon the
author's own experience to examine the 'Serengeti strategy', and offers possible countermeasures to such
orchestrated campaigns. It examines what responses by scientists have been most successful, and how to
combat the doubt-sowing that industry has done regarding the science behind climate change and other fields.
The Serengeti strategy: How special interests try to intimidate scientists, and how best to fight back

Think you may have the wrong end of the pineapple over just who is trying to censor whom.

    2014 was Australia's third hottest

Australia experienced its third-hottest year on record in 2014, paving the way for an early start to the bushfire season, scientists said yesterday while hundreds of firefighters were battling blazes in three states.

    Snip

"Much of Australia experienced temperatures very much above average in 2014, with mean temperatures 0.91 degrees Celsius above the long-term average," said the bureau's Neil Plummer.

    Snip

University of Melbourne climate scientist David Karoly said the high temperatures across Australia last year indicated a need to address the amount of greenhouse gas pollution blamed for climate change.

"Unless there are rapid, substantial and sustained reductions of greenhouse gas emissions in Australia and globally, Australia will experience more heatwaves and bushfires as in 2014," he said.

    __________

    Australia Summer Heatwave

In the U.S. right now, it’s snowy and cold and generally hellish. In Australia, however, it’s summertime — and it’s so hot that some people decided to try that old trick of frying eggs on the pavement.

Temperatures soared to around 44ºC Monday, which is about 111ºF. So, in other words, it’s rather hellish down under right now too — just a hotter, sweatier type of hellish. So, some intrepid YouTubers decided to bust out an iron skillet, throw some eggs in it, and watch them fry. And then eat them on bread.

Heh, check out five predictions for the year 2015 that don’t looks so good right now:

    1) UN overestimated global warming by 2015

    2) All Rainforest Species Will Be Extinct

    3) Oil will run out by 2015

    4) Arctic sea ice will disappear by 2015.

    5) Looking to the future: A billion people could die from climate change by 2020

BTW, prediction #5 was made by Obama’s science adviser, John Holdren.

Oh, btw, the Al Gore supplicants really hate the Medieval Warm Period (MWP), when global temperatures were in all likelihood as high or higher than they are today. But, but there were no SUVs around to drive up greenhouse gas levels!

A new study from the Chinese Academy of Sciences suggest the MWP was a much more widespread phenomenon. It used coral reefs and other proxies (including clam shells). The relevant part of the abstract reads:

"This composite multi-proxy marine record, together with the reconstructions from mainland China and tropical Western Pacific, indicates that the late Holocene warm periods, the Roman Warm Period (RWP) and Medieval Warm Period (MWP), were prominently imprinted and documented in the climatic and environmental history of the East Asia–Western Pacific region."

Yes, but none of those people are "real" scientists. You are only a "real" scientist when you follow the academic herd, hop on the enviro-bandwagon and publish lots of charts and graphs produced from data which was carefully chosen to produce the results you want....while ignoring any other data which might produce an result that you get you fired for going against the herd and letting down the team.....
