    A like minded person, Snubs.

So while it's unfortunate that Gonzalo Lira has died, I really can't bring myself to feel any remorse.

As a failed pick-up artist who encouraged and taught men how to sleep with impoverished Eastern European women who turned Russian shill while Russia was attacking Ukraine he was nothing more than a dirt bag.

He was first warned by Ukrainian authorities that his actions were illegal, yet he continued.

He was then placed under house arrest, a very lenient punishment here in Ukraine.

He then violated the conditions of his house arrest by attempting to escape to Hungary.

Ironically he contracted severe pneumonia, something he struggled with and died in a Kharkiv hospital, a city which is constantly attacked by the country he supported.

Honestly, I wouldn't care if the Tate brothers rotted in a Romanian prison either.

This is the rest of the quote that you left out...

It just shows you're clueless about history. He was never involved in genocide, both his allies and enemies in the UPA have confirmed this in countless writings. He's used as a boogeyman by Russia. Not because he had collaborated with Germany before the Germans imprisoned him, but because he fought against the oppressive regime of Soviet Russia. Also remember that Russia allied with Nazi Germany as well and killed thousands of Poles and Ukrainians.

Russia Sent Its New A.I. Drone-Killer To Ukraine. A Ukrainian Drone Blew It Up.

It’s dangerously close to becoming a new tradition in Russia’s wider war on Ukraine. The Russians develop a fancy new electronic system and deploy it to the front line—then promptly lose it to Ukrainian artillery, bombs or drones.

It happened again this week, when the Ukrainian Shadow drone group hunted down, and blew up, a very new and very rare RB-109A Bylina electronic-warfare command-and-control system.

Bylina is a set of sophisticated receivers, packed into five trucks, that detects and pinpoints enemy radars and radios and, thanks to a built-in artificial intelligence, automatically cues linked electronic jammers to target the radars and radios. A Bylina’s receivers can sense emitters from hundreds of miles away.

All that is to say, Bylina isn’t a jammer. It’s an A.I.-powered command system that makes jammers more effective. Fifty-percent more effective, according to one assessment.

The electronic front might be the most important front of the wider war right now. That’s because small explosive drones are among the most important weapons, and they hit or miss depending on whether the enemy can jam them.

It’s because of Ukraine’s successful jamming campaign that a small unit of marines hangs onto its narrow bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnipro River in southern Ukraine. The marines can fly their drones; Russian troops can’t fly their own drones.

And it’s in large part because of the failure of Russia’s jamming campaign that Russian troops haven’t been able to capture the city of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine. Again, the Ukrainians can fly their drones—and swarm every Russian assault.

So it makes sense that, last fall, the Russian army rushed the first operational Bylinas to the front line following years of increasingly realistic testing. Bylina should have made it “easier to jam enemy signals by selecting the best targeting devices,” according to the Kremlin.

Instead, at least one of the rare Bylinas—they’re brigade-level systems so there probably are only a few in Ukraine—got found out, hit by a drone and burned to the ground, reportedly in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

The ironic strike—a drone knocking out a counter-drone system—is consistent with a broader trend.

Ukraine plinked one of Russia’s best GPS-jammers with a GPS-guided bomb. Ukrainian drones blew up Russian drone-jammers. Ukraine’s cruise missiles struck Russian air-defense sites whose missions included, you guessed it, shooting down cruise missiles.

Most recently, in early January, Russian media announced the deployment to Ukraine of Russian forces’ latest high-tech counterbattery radar, which detects incoming artillery. A few hours later in southern Ukraine, the Ukrainians blew it up ... with artillery.

The Russians aren’t just losing hundreds of tanks and fighting vehicles and thousands of troops in their costly, but so far failing, winter offensive. They also are losing more and more of their best and hardest-to-replace battlefield enablers. Radars. Jammers. Command-and-control systems such as the Bylina.

The effect of these losses won’t immediately be obvious. But over time, it will become harder for the Russians to defend themselves against Ukraine’s artillery, missiles and drones—and equally more difficult to deploy their own artillery, missiles and drones.

    "Characteristics of “Bylina”

The electronic warfare complex RB-109A “Bylina” is mounted on five high-helpfulness and maneuverable trucks. They arrive at the site, deploy and automatically establish communication with the superior headquarters, control points of battalions, companies and dozens of electronic warfare complexes"

Even satellites can see: Russian “smart” supercomplexes RB-109A “Bylina” have joined the troops

    Allegedly a 5 truck system.

Allegedly a 5 truck system was "hit by a drone" (single) and burned to the ground.

Strike on, as said, Russian RB-109A Bylina EW system. Video by the Shadow unit. Bylina entered service with the Russian Armed Forces in 2018.

Video shows one drone, one explosion on one truck.

No evidence of the other 4 trucks of the system being found, attacked, or burning, at all.

40 percent of Ukrainians are in need of emergency aid

The UN appeals to donors not to forget the war in Ukraine.

"We must not forget this war.

These were the words of Martin Griffiths, the UN Under-Secretary-General responsible for humanitarian affairs and emergency aid, at a press conference in Geneva on Monday morning.

Two plans were presented: one for humanitarian aid to people in need in Ukraine and another to support refugees in Ukraine's immediate neighbourhood.

According to Griffith, there is fierce competition for emergency aid money in the world.

"I ask that we do not forget Ukraine, even though there are many other places in the world that are taking our attention. 40 percent of the population of Ukraine is in need of humanitarian aid, Martin Graffiths said at the press conference.

And DKK 21 billion is needed to cover this effort.

The UN, in cooperation with Ukrainian aid agencies, will concentrate efforts in areas close to the front in the south and east of Ukraine. Here people have lost their homes, or they are without heat, electricity and lack food and medicine.

New documents and cash in hand

As in 2023, the aid will consist of, among other things, food, help with rehousing or for basic repairs of destroyed houses and medical assistance. And the UN refugee agency UNHCR is also providing legal assistance to many who have lost their homes and possessions during the war.

Because in the ruins all their personal documents have also been lost. It can be the deed to the house or papers documenting the right to a pension.

In addition, a large proportion have lost their livelihoods and are receiving emergency cash assistance to cover basic needs.

    Worryingly quiet

Another part of the UN's efforts will complement national governments' assistance to Ukrainian refugees now residing in neighbouring countries, such as Poland.

At the end of 2023, there were 5.9 million Ukrainian refugees in Europe, according to UNHCR.

"We don't hear much about the Ukrainian refugees, and on the one hand that's good, but it also worries me a little bit because we know there are challenges," UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said in Geneva today.According to the regional refugee plan published by UNHCR, 80 percent of Ukrainian refugees experience problems with, among other things, getting medical care and finding a job.

Children in school and better jobs for mom

It is not only the number of refugees in work that worries the UN. The Commissioner for Refugees is also concerned that only half of Ukrainian children attend school in host countries.

One of the organisations UNHCR works with was also at the press conference in Geneva. The head of the organization "Ukraine House" in Warsaw, Miroslava Keryk, argued that help for Ukrainian children and Ukrainian women is important. The children should be helped to attend a physical school and not only in Ukrainian online school. And their mothers need more support.

    - They are well educated but work in low-paid jobs. Help them get upskilled. It will help Ukraine when they return home, Miroslava Keryk argued.

Several studies have been done on the likelihood that many Ukrainians will choose to stay in Europe. Below you can read about a study about Ukrainians in Denmark conducted by the University of Copenhagen.

READ ALSO:Every second Ukrainian wants to stay in Denmark - even when the war is over

UNHCR surveys show that the vast majority of Ukrainians who have been granted residency in Europe want to return to Ukraine. Just not right now.

I seem to recall Troy calling me out when i suggested Turkey blackmail their NATO partners, well looks like Sweden will finally get their NATO membership, no real thanks to the muzzies,

Turkey ratifies Sweden’s Nato membership after more than a year of delays

Country’s green light leaves Hungary as only member yet to approve application made in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Turkey’s parliament has ratified Sweden’s Nato membership after more than a year of delays that have hampered Western efforts to show resolve in the face of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Lawmakers voted 287-55 in favour of the Nordic nation’s bid to become the 32nd member of the US-led alliance, leaving Nato member Hungary as the last holdout in the accession process.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Turkish leader, is expected to sign Sweden’s ratification document and conclude Ankara’s role in the protracted saga in the coming days.

Ulf Kristersson, Sweden’s prime minister, welcomed the move and posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Today we are one step closer to becoming a full member of NATO.”

Turkey’s green light leaves Hungary as the last holdout in an accession process that Sweden and Finland began in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine nearly two years ago.

Ankara forced the northern neighbours to split up their applications after finding fault with Sweden and approving Finland after a few rounds of talks.

Finland’s membership last April doubled the length of Nato’s border with Russia and boosted the defences of three tiny Baltic nations that joined the bloc following the collapse of the former Soviet Union.

Hungary has followed Turkey’s lead throughout the Nato accession process and was expected to approve Sweden’s without significant resistance.

On Tuesday, Viktor Orban, the Hungarian prime minister, invited his Swedish counterpart to Budapest to discuss the bid.

But hints emerged of strains between Stockholm and Budapest.

Tobias Billstrom, Sweden’s Foreign Minister, said he saw “no reason” to negotiate with Hungary about Stockholm’s Nato candidacy “at this point”.

Mr Orban and Mr Erdoğan have maintained a good rapport with Russian president Vladimir Putin throughout the Ukraine war.

Mr Erdogan’s objections to Sweden’s bid initially focused on Stockholm’s perceived acceptance of Kurdish groups that Ankara views as “terrorist”.

Sweden responded by tightening its anti-terrorism legislation and taking other security steps demanded by Erdogan.

But Mr Erdogan then turned his gaze on an unmet US pledge to deliver a batch of F-16 fighter jets that has met resistance in Congress because of Turkey’s perceived backsliding on human rights and standoffs with fellow Nato member Greece.

Turkey also wants Canada to follow through on its promise to lift a ban on the sale of a key component used for making combat drones.

Turkish opposition lawmaker Cengiz Candar said during Tuesday’s ratification debate that Turkey’s leaders had “blackmailed” their Western partners during the drawn-out negotiation process.

“Turkey violated three pillars of foreign policy: predictability, credibility and consistency,” he said before voting for the bid.

A Russian IL-76 fell out of the sky today near Belgorad.

The Russians are saying it was carrying 65 Ukraine POWs. Ukraine is saying it was carrying S300 missiles. It does look as though it was shot down by a missile.

I guess the POW exchange won't take place today regardless of what or who was on board.

Rumors Ukrainian General Zaluzhny Will Soon be Fired --Replaced by GRU's Budanov

Ukraine is at the tipping point

    STEPHEN BRYEN

    22. JAN. 2024

Rumors are making the rounds in Kiev that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will fire the head of the Ukrainian armed forces, General Valerii Zaluzhny. Zelensky and Zaluzhny have been at odds for some time. The excuse is likely to be losses in and
, which is a Ukrainian military stronghold, just north of Donetsk. The rumor says that Kyrylo Budanov, head of military intelligence, will replace Zaluzhny.

In this file photo, Maj. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine’s military intelligence chief, center, attends a commemorative event on the occasion of the Russia Ukraine war one year anniversary in Kyiv, Ukraine, on Feb. 24, 2023.

Field reports show that the Russians have advanced in the southern part of the town, knocking out numerous trenches and fortifications, with the Russian operation gaining momentum and strength as new troops are poured into the fight.

There is little doubt that Russia will be successful. While the Ukrainian army may be able to delay the Russians, it lacks any ability to stop them cold. If Ukraine tries to bring in extra forces to bolster their chances, they open themselves up to Russian threats elsewhere along the line of contact.

Avdeevka, no matter its importance, is just an excuse for Zelensky. He needs loyal people around him as his situation becomes more precarious. His European and American allies, who still say they want to give him what he wants in arms and financial aid, understand that Ukraine can't stand up to Russian military pressure.
That is why Europe is now in a panic and Washington is searching for a new policy.

Europe believes that if Russia wins in Ukraine, as now seems likely, then Europe is threatened by Russia and Europeans are not prepared.
in Germany, Sweden, Holland,Estonia, Poland and elsewhere are clamoring for strengthening NATO's defenses. The nearly five-month long NATO exercise, starting in late January, is an effort to demonstrate to Russia that NATO will stand and fight. But the exercise may also show the Russians just what they need to do if a conflict does come.

NATO's alleged 90,000 soldier exercise has been given the lofty name,
Steadfast Defender. It is supposed to reinforce the notion of NATO reliability. The Russians, meanwhile, have cancelled their big military exercise, called Zapad (West), a message understood by Europe. Russia says it must focus on training its new soldiers, sailors and airmen.

Europe has little to fall back on, as Europe's security is acutely dependent on the United States. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, perhaps well before, the Europeans have focused on social spending and have invested little in defense programs. Worse still, many of them have taken their strategic reserve war material and sent it to Ukraine, leaving them with empty shelves and warehouses. In Germany, which was supposed to rebuild its armed forces under the slogan Zeitenwende (Turning Point), the German government has been raiding the $108 billion dollar fund to give money and arms to Ukraine.

While Russia appears to have ordered its defense manufacturing companies to work additional shifts
to produce armaments, little has been done in Europe or the United States to really move forward production. Instead there are labor shortages, supply chain issues, and slow procurement orders. Meanwhile the US has unloaded most of its critical war fighting supplies, sent to Ukraine, leaving great uncertainty if America could rescue Europe, even if it wanted to do so.

    A US Patrol in Syria

Putting aside the credibility, or lack thereof, of any imminent Russian threat to Europe, the US is changing its policy and is recognizing that it cannot win a conventional war against Russia. (Which also means that it can't win a conventional war against China, maybe not even Iran or the miniscule Houthis.) All of this is clearly visible in Iraq where
US bases and installations are regularly bombed by Iranian militias, following orders from Tehran. Their goal is for US troops to leave Iraq and Syria and, accomplishing that, demonstrate that the US is unreliable and unfit to depend upon.

Zelensky speaks about nuclear power plant threat

The new Ukraine policy has been emerging over recent months. If understood correctly, the policy is designed to deal with the new reality that Ukraine will lose the war, and Ukraine's government may need to evacuate Kiev. Putting Budanov in effective control of the new policy, and the relocation of Ukraine's capital, probably to Lviv, is the bedrock of the policy. Operationally the policy will be to use special operations, assassinations, bombings and any other means, including blowing up a nuclear reactor, to punish the Russians and keep them off balance. Zelensky
is already setting the stage saying Russia will blow up a nuclear reactor. The Russians are no doubt keenly aware that the target will be a reactor in western Russia and it will be Ukrainian saboteurs who undertake the mission.

For Washington there are three imperatives. The first is to be able to keep the war going, and to keep demanding money from Congress. This is a hard act because if Ukraine is collapsing it will be hard to get buy-in for a losing proposition. The reality is likely to be that the Biden administration does not expect that Congress will fork over more billions, especially if it is all but certain to go down a rat hole. What they want to do is blame Congress and Republicans for the loss of Ukraine.

The second imperative is to keep a pro-western Ukrainian government functioning, even if it has to abandon Kiev. It also means that the current government has to politically survive: if a coup d'etat happens all bets are off. So Washington needs to prevent a political breakdown. This is a tall order because Ukrainians are understandably unhappy, in fact miserable, as young and old men are forced to fight a losing war, and many of them don't come home.

The third imperative is to keep Russia out of Europe, meaning to keep European countries from cutting their own deals with Moscow. As Kiev goes, so goes Europe and NATO. If the Russians are able to put a pro-Russian government in Kiev, the Europeans will need to find a practical solution to living with Moscow. The key actor is Germany and the current German government won't talk to Russia, at least not now. But that may change in the near future. If Ukraine falls, Germany will need to change its policy. The easiest way for its government to change direction is to blame the United States for something, such as the Nord Stream pipeline's destruction. That would open the door to a conversation with Putin
