Why can't Russia change? Like I said, NATO might even let them in if they do
Are you aware that Putin tried, wanted to? Firmly rebuffed.

Did he meet the requirements? Perhaps he needs to stop jailing and killing his political opponents first.

Whatever the requirements, there was no appetite for letting the 'Russian bear' in. It never got off the ground. Let history roll on a bit, and now there is a mega-alliance between China and Russia. It would have been nice, at least, to have Russia itself as a non-aligned buffer state between, but y'know speculations about that now are as pointless as American Civil war re-enactments.

    Link?

And if they use the words "military intervention", and not invasion or war, it will be shit.

I think it is poor strategic planning and expenditures to protect Europe from Chinese and or NK invasion. And if such was the intend the intend , I think It would make better sense to include Russia in the NATO alliance since either one of them would have to come through Russia to get to Europe .

Is every country in NATO in Europe? And what about missiles, and not invasions?

Other than The US and Canada there are no other countries that are not Eurocentric. If indeed NATO exists to protect from China and NK, and that there are other Non European countries in Nato for that purpose , then don't you find it suspect that none of the countries such as Japan , SK , and others near China and NK are not NATO members.
I would think it would be monumental poor strategic planning.

Except Putin has more than demonstrated that the need for collective security is paramount.

    That's fucking horseshit.

Even if you believe the story, the man who came up with it said Putin didn't want to go through the application process because he thought Russia shouldn't have to.

The contemporary practice is for invading forces is to attain air superiority, before committing ground troops. In Putin’s War ground troops were used early and prior to any air superiority.
The Russian tyrant is either naive, or he fully believed his aim of conquest could be achieved quickly by Russian foot soldiers and conventional munitions.
This belief has been proved incorrect. In many cases, the smaller, but well motivated forces of Ukraine have caused considerable damage to Putins original beliefs. Russian conscripts are reported to have stolen rations from supermarkets and even Ukrainian families.

On the other side, it remains a mystery why Ukrainian forces have not tried to disrupt a vulnerable convoy target, even to divert vehicles from main roads, and slow them down further by forcing wheeled support vehicles onto cross country terrain?

I remain convinced that this tactic is caused by limited offensive choices in the Ukrainian forces. They would rather keep the convoy under vulnerable conditions, while they gather and plan their limited resources in a last ditch attack against superior numbers.

Low morale and vulnerability could yet make Putin even more desperate. His supply lines are already extended beyond Russias ability to re-supply them with food fuel and ammunition of all natures.

Does the Russian general staff support Putin’s War, or is he pulling the strings independent of their advice, on a whim and a prayer.
I rather think that his unrealistic expectations of superiority could be his downfall. Starved of re-supply and committed to a path of ill advised assumptions, he could so easily come unstuck.

I think at this point he is mostly concerned with Ukraine because of the reasons I stated earlier in this Thread. I find it safer not to make predictions as to how this conflict will be resolved. We will see. I hope Ukraine does not become a Nato member because a cornered Bare can be very dangerous.

FFS if history has taught us anything it's that you don't let aggressors get away with anything, or they will just do more.

They already fucked up letting him steal Crimea. If he steals more and is allowed to do it, he'll think he can get away with (even more) murder.

I suppose it might be strange for Countries in the North Pacific Ocean to belong to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, even though NATO has moved inland a bit.

Mariupol, Azov stronghold, is going to be ugly. The pincer about to close, according to RU accounts. Expect the war to be conducted very differently here than in other cities.

I bet most of these guys thought it was always gonna be a larp.

    A message from Dmitri Medvedev

Some French minister there said today that they have declared economic war on us. Watch your speech, gentlemen! And do not forget that economic wars in the history of mankind often turned into real ones.

The Führer made the same mistake at Stalingrad. His refusal to understand the situation on the ground was the beginning of the end for him and the Third Reich.

It is indeed attributed to Goebbels and the Internet is full of 'quotes', none of which has a referenced source. The sentiment had been expressed in similar terms decades before Goebbels. There is something ironic in seeing this 'fact' purveyed as truth.

I had to dig a bit for a source because the way I remembered this was that Goebbels did write something similar - about the British!

Goebbels did describe the big lie in different language in an article he wrote in 1941, “Churchill’s Lie Factory,” but he was accusing the British of the ploy:
The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous.
