    Something from William Blake in absentia: Seems somehow apropos,

    The Second Coming
    BY WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS
    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    Surely some revelation is at hand;
    Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
    The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
    When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
    Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
    A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
    A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
    Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
    Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
    The darkness drops again; but now I know
    That twenty centuries of stony sleep
    Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
    And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
    Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

    No, but I'm sure Moscow would, and they were the ones who deployed them in Ukraine, as you pointed out earlier

    Russia appreciated it so much that they sent planes to intercept them and one pull infront of them to try and destabilize their flight with wake turbulence. That's the US for you. Keeping you safe.

    B52's were used a lot to bomb Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't recall any nukes going off. Do you?

    Oh oh..

    According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, today, on April 16, a list will be published, which will include eight American officials from the Joe Biden administration who will be banned from entering Russian territory. In response to the expulsion of ten Russian diplomats from the United States, Russia is expelling ten employees of the American embassy. According to Lavrov, several American funds that "interfere in Russian politics" will also be closed.

    In addition, US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan was advised to travel to Washington to conduct "serious and detailed consultations." Today he was summoned to the aide to the President of the Russian Federation Yuri Ushakov, where he received these "recommendations". In other words, the American ambassador is expelled from Russia.

    I presume you are familiar Backspin with the fact that the mother of Deputy P.M. Christa Freeland helped write the Ukrainian Constitution.

    Christa herself hasn't been allowed in for a few years now. So our Deputy P.M. isn't allowed into Russia.

    Talk about bad blood.

    Canada was the second country, after Poland, to recognize Ukraine.

    Vice Speaker: More than 19 million Ukrainians live below poverty line
    01.02.2021

    In 2020, the poverty rate in Ukraine increased to 50%.

    As Vice Speaker of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk said at the agenda setting meeting, international organizations’ studies showed that the poverty rate in Ukraine in 2020 increased to 50%.

    "According to many international organizations, the poverty rate in Ukraine has risen to 50% with about 19 million Ukrainians living below the poverty line. Therefore, the Verkhovna Rada should set a task for the Government to urgently approve a strategy and a set of measures to combat poverty in Ukraine until 2030," Kondratiuk said.

    Anyway Klondyke, the Ukrinform website seems an informative one not too sullied with outright propaganda, thanks for the heads up.

    It's really hard to get a handle on what is fueling this situation in Ukraine. President Zelinsky seems to have his mind set on NATO membership (which clearly isn't going to happen anytime soon.)

    Are the Soviets preparing to invade or are they only flexing their political muscles?

    I think we can be confidant in choosing the latter.

    Of course things can always go "terribly wrong" because of a small mistake and then can escalate out of control in a very small measure of time.

    Zelensky, have a "mothers little helper". Relax.
    The USA, the same. There are larger fish to fry.
    And Russia, be mindfull.
    The Media, the feeding frenzy is over. Time to move on.

    The fact that Canada has a lot more citizens of Ukrainian descent than Russian has more to do with Canada's stance on the issue than a Liberals grandad being a Nazi. But you can just keep sticking your tongue up Ezra Levants asshole and swallowing up the bullshit. You're irrelevant in the matter.

    ^^That's all interesting and informative.

    The Ukrainian lobby in Ottawa seems to be an active and effective one which punches above its weight class.. I can't imagine the "Ukrainian vote" is a factor in many ridings, the West Kootenays may be an exception as well as some Prairie ridings.

    I won't be defending dear Christa, I can't stand the little shite.

    I would like to read a thread on Canadian politics.

    A country of which I hear only possitive things, but actually know very little about.
