The reason is simple, putting aside all personal issues with current work, leaving the EU is IMO a lose-lose situation for both the UK and the EU. If you are not willing or able to walk away you cannot succeed in getting a good deal. You can wish all you want, but tactically you have thrown away alot of our negotiating power.

We've got a good deal. All those big numbers being thrown around boil down to £2 a month each for the privilege of living, working, learning, and travelling anywhere in Europe.
