Concealed Carry Handgun Stops Six Robbers at Houston Denny’s

By Peter Braun on August 18, 2013

A woman whose husband was being accosted by six men in a Houston area Denny’s pulled her concealed carry handgun from her purse and opened fire on the robbers.

According to Click2Houston.com, the wife was in the restroom, and when she came out she saw her husband lying on the floor, the group of robbers nearby. Police say she then “pulled her gun and shot at them.”

It appears the robbers shot back and police say there was a shootout. The robbers were apparently running as they shot.
“No bystanders or customers” in the restaurant were injured, and the robbers “fled the scene.”

The brother of the robbery victim praised the woman for doing what she did and said, “Self-defense saved my brothers’ life.

Pizza Delivery man shoots and kills armed robber Read more: http://www.myfoxorlando.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of 32-year-old Fredrick Lorenza Kelly Jr., who was shot and killed during an alleged Armed Robbery of a pizza delivery driver Friday night.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Days Inn motel at 4500 West New Haven in West Melbourne shortly before midnight. Detectives say 54-year-old Bryon Park of Palm Bay had just returned to his vehicle after delivering a pizza to a room in the motel complex, when he was approached by Kelly who had a large knife.

Kelly demanded money from Park and threatened to kill him if he did not comply. Deputies say that's when Park, the pizza delivery man who happens to be a former law enforcement officer, grabbed a gun from his car and defended himself, by firing one shot towards Kelly.

Kelly was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say this wasn't the first offense for Fredrick Kelly Jr. It turns out he has a lengthy violent criminal history that includes Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery and False Imprisonment. Brevard County Sheriff deputies also said that the suspect in this investigation, Kelly, was released from prison in 2009, after serving a reduced sentence for similar violent crimes."

Yet more rinse and repeat claims by the monkey in the box.

As you very well know they have not been buying lots of ammunition, they have simply sighed a contract to buy ammunition from a fixed suppler at a fixed price for the next few years. thus saving themseves the expense of going though the full federal quoting quoting process every time the want a box.

First impressions of the incident look more like vengeance than self-defence and the wife was very lucky not to have caused injury to others during the shoot-out. I cannot think why anyone would praise such an act; foolhardy in the extreme IMO.

I agree with that. Even the US police find it difficult to hit the right target so what chance a civilian?

    Not entirely correct.

The general public was never armed in any way like in the US. The tightening of gun laws hardly affected law abiding citizens who never saw the need to own a gun except for sport or, on farms, vermin control.

Some drug gangs still have guns but usually only shoot each other. The incidence of gun crime is much lower than it was back in the '70s.

The police in general never carried guns. There are specially trained response units, very well trained and frequently subject to checks, that are called out when necessary. That arrangements avoids the Wild West shootouts so common in the US when the street cops get too exited.

Seriously, this is worthy of discussion both for and against, or unknown opinions.

Iowa grants gun permits to the blind

In what might seem to be an alarming development in the gun control debate, officials in Iowa say they have been granting weapons permits to blind people.

According to the Des Moines Register, the Polk County Sheriff's Office says it has issued permits to at least three people who "can’t legally drive and were unable to read the application forms or had difficulty doing so because of visual impairments." And officials in at least three other counties say they have granted permits to visually impaired residents because state law forbids sheriffs from denying the right to carry a weapon based on a physical disability.

“It seems a little strange, but the way the law reads, we can’t deny them (a permit),” Sgt. Jana Abens, a spokeswoman for the Polk County sheriff’s office, told the newspaper.

Just exactly how many blind Iowans have permits to carry guns is unclear. State officials say they do not collect that information when the permits are issued.

But the visually-impaired people who are given permits say they are perfectly capable of handling their weapons.

"When you shoot a gun, you take it out and point and shoot, and I don't necessarily think eyesight is necessary," Michael Barber, who is blind, told the paper.

    Some lawmakers, though, do.

“I’m not an expert in vision,” Delaware Sheriff John LeClere said. “[But] at what point do vision problems have a detrimental effect to fire a firearm? If you see nothing but a blurry mass in front of you, then I would say you probably shouldn’t be shooting something.”

Federal laws do not prohibit blind people from owning guns, but some states have laws that restrict visually impaired from obtaining weapons permits. Not Iowa.

Several Iowa country sheriffs said they would not willingly issue a gun permit to someone who is visually impaired, but acknowledged that person would likely win an appeal.

“The fact that you can’t drive a car doesn’t mean you can’t go to a shooting range and see a target,” Jane Hudson, executive director of Disability Rights Iowa, said.

“There’s no reason solely on the (basis) of blindness that a blind person shouldn’t be allowed to carry a weapon,” Chris Danielsen, PR director of the National Federation of the Blind, told the Register. “Presumably they’re going to have enough sense not to use a weapon in a situation where they would endanger other people, just like we would expect other people to have that common sense.”

Have things gotten completely out of hand in the States or what?

Kid expelled for playing with airsoft gun in own yard.
Two seventh grade Virginia Beach students previously suspended for shooting an airsoft gun have been expelled, WAVY.com has learned.

During a hearing Tuesday morning, Aidan Clark and Khalid Caraballo were expelled in a unanimous vote. Clark was offered the option of attending an alternative school, but his father, Tim, told WAVY News’ Andy Fox he will be homeschooled.
Caraballo will attend an alternative school.

Like thousands of others in Hampton Roads, Khalid Caraballo plays with airsoft guns. Caraballo and his friend Aidan were suspended because they shot two other friends who were with them while playing with the guns as they waited for the school bus.

The two seventh graders say they never went to the bus stop; they fired the airsoft guns while on Caraballo’s private property.
Aidan’s father, Tim Clark, told WAVY.com what happened next lacks commons sense. The children were suspended for possession, handling and use of a firearm.

Khalid’s mother, Solangel Caraballo, thinks it is ridiculous the Virginia Beach City Public School System suspended her 13-year-old son and Aidan because they were firing a spring-driven airsoft gun on the Caraballo’s posted private property. “My son is my private property. He does not become the school’s property until he goes to the bus stop, gets on the bus, and goes to school.”

The bus stop in question is 70 yards from the Caraballo’s front yard."

Seventy yards! - almost the length of a football field and these do-gooders (in their minds) want to control every aspect of kids behavior.

What's next? a ban on Paint Ball guns too? Looks like Homeschooling is the answer here, man...

Once again it proves that access to firearms in the US is far too easy, the right for everyone to possess a handgun for self protection is secondary.(if at all)

The obsession for some remains, it's for the government to restrict the purchase of lethal weapons to citizens although as they are required to request permission from the NRA in order to do so, progress is unlikely.

This type of shoting seems to be happening more and more in the US. It's not safe there anymore for someone to walk up to a door seeking help in some neighborhoods. America is not a normal country with things like this going on. Paranoia and just plain everyday fear are out of control.

Black Detroit woman shot to death while seeking help after car crash in white neighborhood | The Raw Story

Police are investigating the shooting death of a Detroit woman who was killed while seeking help after a late-night car wreck.
Family members say 19-year-old Renisha McBride crashed about 2:30 a.m.

Saturday in Dearborn Heights and knocked on the door of a home in the 16000 block of Outer Drive because her cell phone battery had died.

McBride was shot in the head, killing her.

Police said they believe the shot was fired in self-defense, and a neighbor said officers told them the homeowner had gotten scared and shot someone during an apparent break-in attempt.

Her family said they were initially told by police that McBride’s body had been dumped and discovered near Warren Avenue, but police are now saying the woman died on the home’s front porch.

McBride’s family said the shooting wasn’t justified, even if the resident believed the woman was an intruder trying to break in.

“He shot her in the head (and) for what? For knocking on his door,” said McBride’s aunt, Bernita Spinks. “If he felt scared or threatened, he should have called 911.”
Spinks said her niece, who was black, was racially profiled in the predominantly white Dearborn Heights.

“She didn’t break in his house; she didn’t break a window,” Spinks said. “What, you seen somebody on your porch and you just start shooting? And then you say it was accidental? That wasn’t accidental; that wasn’t accidental, no.”

The case is remarkably similar to the Sept. 14 shooting death of 24-year-old Jonathan Ferrell, a black former college football player who was shot and killed by police in North Carolina after wrecking his car late at night and seeking help from a nearby home.

An officer who responded to the homeowner’s 911 call fired 12 shots at Ferrell, hitting him 10 times, and is now charged with voluntary manslaughter.

OK, this topic has been discussed infinitum in the US and will never be agreed upon. It is good to have the right to own a weapon in the States and I do own a home defense shotgun that is loaded with buckshot and slugs. Hopefully, I will never find a time to use it, but I do feel better when all the gangs and criminals are armed.

Would I like to own a weapon in Thailand? I have discussed this previously and believe it would make me feel better, but shooting someone would raise many more problems than it is worth.

Each country to its own, and you only need to know how to survive in whatever country you live in.

I'm not against owning guns but obviously some people probably shouldn't own them for various reasons. Some weapons probably just should be banned as well. I'm not saying all military-style weapons should be banned but some should and some modified weapons should. America's problem isn't a thing like a gun alone it's the culture of the nation. You could say that many in the US have mental disease. Some of it is from the culture of the nation and some of it is personal. Some of the weapon creations reflect this warped mentality. To fix America's problem the solution involves dealing with people and weapons together. God knows we let people drift off into their wacky worlds doing all sorts of damage to others in fulfilling their beliefs. These days it's okay to be a psycho in America so long as you don't actually kill people. The nation should stop tolerating these warped souls and start calling them out and in some cases locking them up rather than letting them slip further and further into imaginary worlds of their creation.

Interesting comment about mental illness in the US:

"Kessler says that researchers still aren't sure whether mental illnesses are much more common in the U.S. or if people are simply more comfortable discussing them with questioners. Discussions of mental illness are far less common in many parts of the world than in the U.S., where drug companies frequently tout medications designed to treat disorders."

At the end of the day the gun control debate is about what licensing and registration, if any, should be applicable- and what sort of munitions should be legally available to the general public. Only in the eyes of the deluded is it something fundamental, or constitutional. The same billybob who says 'they're a comin' to take yer guns' also believes Obama is a foreign born Muslim, and only ever votes republican if he votes at all. In short, a retard of the common or garden redneck variety. They make a lot of noise (amplified by the NRA gun industry lobby), but there are not really that many of them. Of course, there are a number of others that jump on the bandwagon because of sheer political partisanship.

The fact that the US senate summarily dismissed an insipid 'gun control' (hardly) measure supported by some 89% of US citizens takes the matter further than a gun control debate though, and questions the very nature and existence of participatory Democracy in the USA.

The United States is ranked 3rd, from the top, in murders throughout the World.
But, if you remove just 4 cities from the statistics:
    . Chicago
    . Detroit
    . Washington, DC
    . New Orleans

The United States is then ranked 4th, from the bottom, in the entire
    world - for Murders.

These 4 cities also have the toughest Gun Control Laws in the United
States and are run by Democrats.

    Imagine that !
