even republicans don't really like romney.

Republican enthusiasm has declined; only a third of Romney backers says their vote is an expression of support for Romney; and of Romney’s current supporters, fully a quarter (25%) says they would consider voting for Obama.

    Where are the returns Twit?

When Dim Mitt is thinking about someone he wants working with him, he wants to see their returns (multiple years), but Mitt the Twit doesn’t think the American public should see his.

Romney Demanded Several Years Of Ryan's Tax Returns, Won't Release His Own

From the age of 16, when his 55-year-old father died of a heart attack, until he was 18, Ryan received Social Security payments, which, according to a lengthy profile in WI Magazine, he put away for college. The eventual budget czar attended Miami University in Ohio to earn a B.A. in economics and political science, and landed a congressional internship as a junior.

    ___________________________

I saw a piece where Dim Mitt and slash and burn Ryan told Bob Schieffer (interview on 60 Minutes) they were not going to cut benefits to seniors.

"What Paul Ryan and I have talked about is saving Medicare, is providing people greater choice in Medicare, making sure it's there for current seniors. No changes, by the way, for current seniors, or those nearing retirement. But looking for young people down the road and saying, "We're going to give you a bigger choice." In America, the nature of this country has been giving people more freedom, more choices. That's how we make Medicare work down the road."

Yeah Dim Mitt/Ryan come down to Florida and tell these seniors that their plan will not be cut and we’ll give your kids (some who have pre-existing conditions) vouchers so they can purchase the insurance they like.

But both those thieves should be warned, most parents still love their kids and want to see the best for them and don’t think those stinkin’ vouchers will amount to squat.

New Obama panic: Romney crowd sizes

The recent frantic email theme to supporters from Team Obama about Mitt Romney's run-away fundraising successes has been expanded to the crowd size gap between the thousands who rushed out over the weekend to see Romney and new running mate Rep. Paul Ryan and the hundreds who cheered on President Obama.
The big worry expressed in a new email from Obama's Chicago HQ: "The Republican base is energized." The reason: Romney attracted 15,000 at a rally over the weekend.
    The email:

    Paul --
I just got this disturbing report: Yesterday's Romney-Ryan rally in North Carolina pulled in an overflow crowd of 15,000 people.
There's no spinning that number. It's a LOT of people, and the Republican base in energized.

Got to wonder about Dim Mitt and his choice and the people he surrounds himself with.

A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows Americans give Rep. Paul Ryan some of the lowest marks as a vice presidential choice since 1988.

USAT/Gallup Poll: Paul Ryan gets low marks for VP: USAT/Gallup Poll: Paul Ryan gets low marks for VP

Americans don't believe GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney hit a home run with his choice of Paul Ryan as a running mate, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, with more of the public giving him lower marks than high ones.

Ryan, a Wisconsin congressman, is seen as only a "fair" or "poor" choice by 42% of Americans vs. 39% who think he is an "excellent" or "pretty good" vice presidential choice.

^If John Bolton has anything to say about it , Iran will certainly be the next target.

"THE HAWK On foreign policy, Romney has so far largely bypassed his party’s mainstream in favor of advisers with a decidedly neoconservative bent — confrontational, unilateral, with a missionary urge to spread American-style democracy and a particular affinity for Israel’s hard-liners. Romney’s more conventional insiders call it the “Bolton faction,” for John Bolton, among the most hawkish of George W. Bush’s “freedom agenda” interventionists. Bolton is now on the Romney team, but Dan Senor is the one who has Romney’s ear. At 40, he is next-gen Bolton, smoother, TV-savvy, post-cold war in age but cold war in spirit. (He co-founded a think tank with the Soviet-era neocon William Kristol.) Senor helped choreograph Romney’s recent foreign debut, in which the candidate needlessly offended the British and the Palestinians. You might think that gaffe-a-thon would be a career setback, but Senor has survived bigger debacles. He was the spin-doctor for L. Paul Bremer, who, as the American proconsul of post-conquest Iraq, presided over the most highhanded and blundering stage of the occupation. ..."

Paul Ryan’s Bad History and Worse Foreign Policy

Sometimes it takes a true conservative to point out what a bunch of crackpots the faux-conservatives are. Ryan don't know much about history, and calling him an "intellectual" is more than a bit of a stretch. Can't recommend this article enough (of interest to Brits, too, I should think). Probably best to read this blog post first:
Paul Ryan’s Bad History and Worse Foreign Policy (III) | The American Conservative
Bret Stephens declares Paul Ryan’s Hamilton Society speech to be “one of the most thoughtful speeches in years about America’s global role.” He makes a point of praising Ryan’s grasp of history:

Next there is history. Why can’t the U.S. simply cede the cumbersome role of world policeman to somebody else? Didn’t Britain do as much in the 1940s? It did. Yet, “unlike Britain, which handed leadership to a power that shared its fundamental values, today’s most dynamic and growing powers do not embrace basic principles that should be at the core of the international system.”

Stephens carefully avoids mentioning that the section of the speech just before this was filled with so much historical nonsense that it makes it almost impossible to take anything else Ryan says later on seriously. This was the section in which Ryan claimed that both world wars were the result of American inability to accept the “leadership of the Western world” from Britain in the early 20th century. Ryan said:

At that time, Britain’s governing class took the view that it would be better to cede leadership of the Western world to the United States. Unfortunately, the United States was not yet ready to assume the burden of leadership. The result was 40 years of Great Power rivalry and two World Wars.

There was no single leader of “the Western world” at that time, Britain wasn’t trying to cede its preeminence to the U.S. in the early 20th century, and the book Ryan cites in support of this mangling of history doesn’t back up his argument at all. He followed the above quote with this bit of alarmism: “The stakes are even higher today.” How could the stakes be “even higher” than both world wars? But pay no attention to any of that. Ryan’s speech was very thoughtful.

    Then, for more, the article:

Good article. Illustrative of Ryan's wrongheaded thinking (distortions, goofy and intentional) in other areas.

If Ryan believes this, somebody should ask him if we should start that process by reducing military spending. He supported the GM bailout because the auto workers in his district vote, so I doubt that he'll want to scare those military industry workers in the other States.

Is Bain trying to torpedo Romney's campaign?

'I'm sick to my stomach': anger builds in Illinois at Bain's latest outsourcing plan | Business | guardian.co.uk

    [snips]

But for Bonnie Borman – and 170 other men and women in Freeport, Illinois – there is a brutal twist to the torture. Borman, 52, and the other workers of a soon-to-be-shuttered car parts plant are personally training the Chinese workers who will replace them.
It's a surreal experience, they say. For months they have watched their plant being dismantled and shipped to China, piece by piece, as they show teams of Chinese workers how to do the jobs they have dedicated their lives to.

But, in the midst of the 2012 presidential election, Freeport is different. For Sensata is majority-owned by Bain Capital, the private equity firm once led by Mitt Romney, that has become a hugely controversial symbol of how the modern globalised American economy works. Indeed, Romney still owns millions of dollars of shares in the Bain funds that own Sensata.
So as Sensata strips out costs by sacking American workers in favour of Chinese ones, the value of Romney's own investments could rise, putting money into the pockets of a Republican challenger who has placed job creation in America at the heart of his bid for the White House.

The Freeport workers have appealed to Bain and Romney to save their plant. The local town council, several Illinois politicians and the state's Democratic governor have all rallied to their cause. "This company is competitive globally. They make a profit here. But Bain Capital decided to squeeze it a little further.

Weird that this is coming down in the middle of election season.

If Romney can't convince those running the show to hold off until mid November, which really isn't that far away, then he sucks as a politician or business person.

The graphics are terrible, he stands to make a good profit out of this and he's letting it go through. He has to know that it is going to become a story.

nothing (of consequence) that romney has done since the primaries makes any practical or political sense.

from not releasing his tax returns to selecting ryan and his toxic budget plan.....it's almost as if he's trying to lose.

Maybe because if the USA cedes its role as world policeman there will be another great war and this time time around the US won't get out of it unscathed. The next war could see nuclear missiles falling on US soil. I see it as a considerable difference than the prior two world wars, wouldn't you?

Thanks for posting this. Too bad The Guardian lazily points at Romney. GM’s bottom line drives the parts supplier’s bottom line. GM is forcing parts suppliers to relocate overseas so that GM can cut its costs. The Teamsters who own GM alongside the US government are shutting down Sensata’s US plant. If Sensata doesn't cut its costs The US government and the Teamsters will buy their auto parts elsewhere.

That's the way it was before the takeover. Is there any thing to suggest things have changed? Nothing in The Guardian articles indicates it has.

Ya, Romney left Bain in 1999, but as the commie Guardian notes: "Bain bought the firm that was to become Sensata in 2006, when it was the Texan arm of a Dutch company."

I saw the speech he gave in front of these miners yesterday and oh how Dim Mitt looked outa place.

Now if you put Biden or Obama in front of these guys you can understand both of those men rolling up their sleeves and being a part of the team.

Dim Mitt,……..embarrassing. Dim’s speech was awful and I had a feeling these guys didn’t want to be there.

Dim Mitt isn’t liked by most Americans because of his inability to connect with the American public,….

When men like Ryan or Obama or Vice President Joe Biden roll their sleeves up to talk to blue collar voters, it feels real because it's coming from a real place inside.

When Romney rolls his sleeves up, it's clear he's trying to send a message -- because his sense of entitlement and social disconnect prevents him from being the message.: Why America doesn't like Mitt Romney - CNN.com

Speaking of miners, this article came out recently:

In late July, a somber crowd gathered before a long granite wall etched with the rough silhouettes of men standing against jagged mountain peaks. They represented the 29 miners who died in an explosion at Massey Energy’s Upper Big Branch Mine in West Virginia in 2010. The disaster initially jolted lawmakers to investigate safety conditions in mines, but today, King Coal still rules both in Appalachia and on Capitol Hill.

But some hope to chip away at the industry’s impunity by reforming the lax regulatory system. A new bill, introduced by Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), would impose stronger penalties on mine operators that knowingly cause or maintain safety problems like those that at Upper Big Branch. The legislation would also beef up the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s (MSHA) investigative powers.

According to a summary of the bill, companies that violate safety rules would face heavier punishment, including criminal penalties. One provision, which responds to reports that Massey had illegally manipulated its ventilation systems, would impose fines of more than $200,000 for unauthorized ventilation changes, which could “lessen clean air flow in the mines and increase the likelihood of explosions.”: : Two Years After Fatal Disaster, Push to Protect Coal Miners Wears On | MyFDL

Now everyone knows what the GOP wants to do to these types of regulations/departments. Cut them. The GOP wants less regulations imposed on businesses and it will put men and women at risk. F those people.

And Dim Mitt standing in front of the miners knowing he and his ilk want to put these miners lives in danger every day down where they work. F him.
