I find that I like the country for about 5 years then it gets progressively more unpleasant after 7 years to full on hate from 9 years onwards...

I've spent 10 years in Thailand (hated the last couple), and now coming up for 10 years in Korea (really hated the last few) - Korea is worse. I'm not sure what country to move to next and hate? Maybe, just go places for 5 years then move on when "slightly jaded, but still enjoying"...

^ food prices (seem to...) have increased more in the last 36 months than the rest of my lifetime combined.

^ you know, contrary to beliefs of your average millennial, probably less than 10% of household plastics are reused - the rest is burnt (at places such as Saraburi which has massive cancer/leukemia rated) or goes into landfill in poorer countries such as the Philippines (from where it often seeps into the ocean). Thus, you Sir, are doing the world a great service!

Edmond, at the world's service, sir.

We bought a house's worth of appliances 6 months ago and each one came packed with tonnes of polystyrene, none of the installation guys took it or the carboard boxes away so had to hire a guy to come with his truck to take it all away at the end. Our European renovation guy was saying that all of that polystyrene is single use and doesn't get recycled. Imagine how many washing machines and fridges and TVs and ovens are sold everyday in one city, and not one piece of polystyrene is reused or recycled. Tiz criminal, that's what it is.

Openly biased mods / 'moderation' doesn't help either.

It was more fun when they are least pretended to be impartial so you could laugh at it.

^^They've stopped using it in lots of our deliveries.

Sometimes it's shredded paper, sometimes plastic bags full of air cushions.

^ & ^^^ it feels criminal; our policy makers need to implement real change.

Remember the trips to the Thai islands such as Phi Phi where you used to get takeaway foods on a banana leaf - I suspect it's layers of plastic now, so sad.

I had noodles to take away from the village recently. I think there were 7 small plastic bags involved, everything collected together in - a plastic bag. Criminal, really.

Maybe people here should be made to bring their own bowl, like people bring their own cups for drinks.

I'd like to see bamboo straws too.

^ good ideas - unless people start to do it by themselves, I doubt it'll happen. Governments around the world talk tough on pollution/environmental issues, but deregulate and push policies that damage the environment.

I am back in California for a month and a Latte is $6.50. Same drink and actually better tasting in Thailand is about $1. In fact with the THB USD at 35...its exactly $1.

It isn't as simple as your sentimentalist feelings suggest. A paper straw uses 220% more energy to make than a plastic one.

Those paper straws at Mcdonalds took some getting used too, especially when they turned soggy hoovering up my Latte with a espresso top.
Still I made the sacrifice and switched to Greggs.

    Yes, they bullshit you.

And yet on other subjects you are choosing to believe them.

    Confused much ?

    ...Back to the straws debate.

I was in Hong Kong a month or 2 back and the Burger King took the 3rd option and didn't even have straws. They had these new fancy lids where you drank your Coke like a big boy.

    --EDIT--

Actually, they did have straws, but you had to request them.

...and I ripped this photo from Google.

    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

We have these metal straws at home.

And a draw full of unused plastic straws that seem to come with any drink you buy at 7-Eleven.
