Welcome to the realm of Thai restaurant staff.
Then looks at you like you're a cnut and mutters something "farang" before storming off; all because you've had the temerity to expect a waiter in the Thai restaurant business to do their job properly.

Why shouldn't I be able to stand around playing on my phone, picking my nose and fucking up orders? Go home farang! You go! You go! You goooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Although I'll add that an experience at the ticket counter at Ekkamai over Christmas managed to plumb depths even lower than the restaurant industry.

Me. I want to go to Ban Phe.

    Her. 200 baht.

Me. Two please (passing over the 1000 baht note).

Her. No hab! No hab! No hab (trying to return the note)!

Me. I can see the money there (pointing at the wedge of 500s, 100s and 20s inside the plastic jar she's nursing).

Her. No hab! No hab! No hab! You go buy water. You go! You go! You goooooooooooooooooooo!

Me. A water is 20 baht. I have 1000. This doesn't make sense.

Her. No hab! No hab! No hab! You go buy water. You go! You go! You goooooooooooooooooooo!

Me. Why don't you ask the people next to you?

Her. No hab! No hab! No hab! You go buy water. You go! You go! You goooooooooooooooooooo!

And so it continued with the peasant screeching at me for 3 minutes instead of taking the money until she finally decided that she did have the change and would give me the 600 baht.

    From. Her. Fucking. Jar.

    pah! thats nothing.

years ago when i lived way up a hill on samui and suddenly my dial up internet became even slower than usual i contacted the telephone people and they sent someone over, after fiddling with the wires, shrugging his shoulders and scratching his head, the "engineer" told me in all seriousness that the internet was slow because it has to come up the hill.

Stupidity I can just about handle (in small doses), but it's the rudeness that gets me.

That's why I've never bought into the Land of Smiles bollocks. Generally speaking - and certainly at the less educated end of society - Thais are smiling when they're taking your money; the rest of the time you are little more than an inconvenience and you can get fucked if you expect much in return.

If you want to see a real welcoming smile, cross the border into Cambodia.

    Yesterday.

Son needed a new passport. Made appointment at embassy two month ago, chose 2pm to give time to drive there. Carpark next door full. Guard motion is over to apartment block next door for parking but that’s also full (could have been a warning sign…) I park up, engine running and wife and son enter embassy at around 2:20om. About half an hour later another guard moves me on so I park on the road in a tow zone along with a dozen taxis and some other cars to wait…and wait…and wait.

son was issued ticket number 754. They are currently serving 321.

Surely those numbers skip a bit, they do in Hopistals and fast food restaurants here.

nope. Literally 400+ people in the queue ahead of them.

staff said it might take until 5:00 or 6:00pm

    lucky he ate lunch.

at 5:00pm they close the embassy but promise to serve everyone. They are up to queue number 400 and something by now.

7:00pm comes and goes. perhaps you will get served by 9:00pm they say

now 8:00pm - vending machine is broken. Some kindly lady gives him a package of Pringles for dinner.

10:10pm - they finally get served.

quick snack and then I get to drive them home (few hours away, so a late school night)

When you've woken up, got ready for work and done 2 of the 3 S, but you just know the minute you leave the house you're gonna need the third.

Funnily enough, I've just booked a week in Weymouth. Isn't that originally your neck of the woods?

^ I'll be down Lyme Regis way next week and it's looking like rain all week so we'll probably have a day in Weymouth.

Not really my neck of the woods, I'm more North Somerset.

Sorry Mike, I've been a bit remiss. There's no thread this year as they are hard work but I can certainly add to the Daily Moan thread.

As usual I managed a sausage roll at Schiphol, enroute to Bristol. I've been eating these sausage rolls in the 'D' area at Schiphol for well over 3o years... first from a small bar at the opposite side of the building, then from the Cone Bar, and now from some new fancy bar that doesn't do draught and charges for a sachet of tomato sauce. You always used to get a squirt for free.

My perennial moan at Bristol Airport...

Incidentally, we waited almost an hour for the luggage to arrive at Bristol - it would have been quicker to have carried our bags from the plane ourselves - and then the luggage from four flights suddenly arrived at the same carousel, while five other carousels were vacant. It took another half hour to get the bags as not one b@stard would stand back, so you could watch your bag going round and round through a wall of people four deep.

Then I was charged 35 quid for a taxi to my mum's house which is less than 5 miles from the airport.

Tuesday it rained all day and every b@stard I spoke to told me that it was the first rain they'd seen for weeks and how great the weather has been for the last month.

I picked up the hire car, which is a good result, it has sensors, cameras, chargers, you name it, but the radio doesn't seem to have MW... only FM. So how am I going to listen to the Ashes on 5 Live when driving down to Dorset on Saturday?

Oh, and this morning my 'holiday' will involve meeting up with a solicitor to try and sort a Will out... something that I should have done years ago. Still, so long as I survive this next few weeks at least that will be sorted.

all new cars have DAB radio, you will find 5 live there, delve into the menus and you should find it. i think mw was turned off years ago!

^ Thanks, it does have 'DAB' which I'm also not familiar with. I seem to be a bit out of touch with this stuff.

^^^^ £2 for a f'kin trolley at an airport - c@£%$... I'd rather carry 15 bags for the extended family then pay for that on principle.

^^ How many covid variants have you got through?
