Thanks for that mate ,, that is now framed and hanging up on the wall of one of our ex drivers at work who is now recovering from a stroke .

He loves it as he ( up until 6 weeks ago ) had a pilots licence and flew regularly .

Nice little sketch there , I tried to google image the actual site to have a look, but no luck .

This photo came up from Colchester though, some lovely buildings there.

Someone's off to the Regal to see Ingrid Bergman in Joan of Arc...

One of my fingers is too croaked for a while, to pretend to draw it, but maybe I'll have a go at drawing it on the on the computer and painting it on there...
( aka: tracing the outlines with digital grease proof paper, followed by crayoning it in all in- painting by numbers style )

i'll have a problem with the front details of that chopped in half car though, anyone know what model it is ?

Is that old car a Morris 8 ?

BTW my Dad had a shop in the same street

Another little pencil sketch around Colchester , this old building is the siege house ,, had many a fillet steak with the ex wife in there before .

I believe now its just a hotel not a restaurant

This is at the foot of East Hill , there are bullet holes still on display on the walls from a battle when Charles 1st was around , I believe between the Royalists and the Parlimentarians ,, this was the main road in those days up to the castle .

Mabe I will do some more pencil sketches around the town if people like them

On a recent trip to Spain in the Costa's region I was completely overcome by all the beautiful historic artwork on show ,, far too many to mention , however one thing I was set on was to try to reproduce some of these beautiful artworks to display up on my home walls .

Now before I start I want to very clearly state THIS IS NOT MY ARTWORK ,, ok this is just MY INTERPRETATION of the masters involved .

I have to clearly state that because anything else is just plagiarism , and believe me over the years I have seen numerous twatts exhibit work they claim to be theirs when it clearly is not.

Ok so first up in this series which caught my eye to be worthy of a place on my home walls is this little beauty ,,, " Destruction de la Invincible "

Unfortunately for the poor bloody crew this was anything BUT Indestructable

Now this beautiful naval history painting by Jose` Gartner is quite a large landscape format job ,, I have a frame which is about 1000 mm by 360 mm so i cut and sand a 6mm thick piece of MDF board to size .

Then i triple prime it in grey gesso ready for an under paint of acrylic colour , I have chosen cad yellow light + titanium white to under paint here ,, and off we go !

Right now that under paint is dry we are off with the oils ,, this is where it begins to get interesting , now I am NOT out to make a photo copy of this great painting but put my take on this masters work , as viewed through my eyes .

I start by freely painting the sky + distant buildings in various mixtures of phatlo blue / juanne brilliant / titanium white and cooling the blues down with sparsely used alizarin crimson

    Sorry Pthalo Blue ^

Continued across the sky area making sure the horizon is roughly level so as not to mislead the eye later ,, some small amounts of raw umber being added to darken the sky a little in areas

Ok now a few different colours thrown into the sea , this is nothing to worry about at this time , all I am doing is trying to imagine the sense of movement I am going to need to generate with the light and shade as i go along .

Oil paint is opaque if painted on thickly enough , so its forgiving and will allow you go over and over until your happy , the opposite of the one chance water colour paint .

Cheers LT mate all the best to you and your family over Xmas + The New Year to

Thankyou kindly for taking the time to leave a comment as you drop by , the system won't allow it at the moment I am afraid

Anyway here we are a bit more progress done last week and secondly this weekend just gone

Bit more shape being formed in the waves and the foam , have to keep standing back and having a look as I go

I am really enjoying this one as I go along , practising different techniques and methods trying to learn all the time , hopefully leading me one day to turn out a very special painting of my own

Right I have just about done with this one now ,, in the foreground under that wave on the left hand side in the original painting is a half of a wrecked boat ,, now I have painted this in twice , two different sizes and it just wrings the painting IMHO ,, so I have painted the water back in again of rthe umpteenth time and I am going without that bit of wreckage ,, anyway its up on me wall now and I am very happy with the result

Very nice, Nigel. I like the brightness of the painting and the lovely greens in the sea ... and the white foam. So much to like about it. Well done.
It enjoyed seeing how the painting unfolded, so to speak. How long did it take to paint in total?
