Awesome Khun Bobby! I bow down to your superior knowledge of thai karaoke spelling...

khun geng mak na....sood yot krap!. *pls edit for spelling mistakes*

as I can't live with myself knowing I lazily used khun instead of khon... no wonder Za is so messed up - from 3 years of stalking me....poor girl suffers karaoke abuse stress disorder (KASD)...

So many smart posters on this thread.

I remember the pain and difficulty of becoming a native speaker (of English). Thank God so many years have passed that the pain is not remembered. But the hatred is. Yet I got over that too and even love the language now to the extent of teaching it here in LOS for 5 years. <---Auroria?

And I love Thai so much that it's my second favorite language. Yet I can barely say "hello", "how are you", "what's your name?". Some people just have a way with foreign languages and I'm not one.

It's as simple as this- if you are so damn sensitive about being called farang, don't damn come here. I'm not even going to glorify this stoopid, endlessly repeated tripe with the derivation of the word- which exists in many different languages. Google it, or just piss your nappy and go home.

^ They can't even decide a universal spelling of Don Meung/Don meang, etc, etc.. yet... as long as it's readable... 'sharng mun' (who cares?)...

let us bastardize their lingo, like they do ours.. no?

we already have and so have they and it's called Tinglish and it's a step in the right direction towards learning Thai and learning Eng afaic just bc we can meet halfway there. I speak it fluently and I've found that Thais don't think it's crass or stupid but westerners generally do. I tell you what they do think is stupid is when westerners "practice" speaking Thai with them.

In kareoke type I would propose fah-lung with a medium tone on the far and a falling tone on the lung. Well that's how my ears hear it. In any case who really cares, I'm just happy to be one

They've got a universal spelling, it's called the Thai alphabet, which along with the tone rules tells you exactly how a word is pronounced. It takes about a week to learn the alphabet fully. Are you seriously criticising a language because it doesn't transliterate well into a completely unrelated language?

How about pronouncing it with an "r" instead of the lazy "l"?
    Fa-Rung.
