Yes, you're right. You didn't claim anything, did you.

I have no idea if crime is increasing in Thailand. It's entirely possible that it is but the fact that a bunch of middle-aged foreign men who appear to live lives which are remarkably cut off from their environments claim that it is is hardly going to convince anyone. But then threads like this are very clearly much more about having one's prejudices confirmed than about working out what is and is not happening. In any case, the only way to know is to look at government stats or those of creditable researchers, not waste time listening to the cretinous musings of an idiot like you, those of your wife or indeed of any other individual who doesn't have some kind of specialist knowledge.
It's plain to see with your aggression and name calling that you have issues
I still don't see where l have said l have a great knowledge of these things than you or do you just make shit up.
I can say that the simple fact that you teach or claim to teach in a third world country and speak Thai some how makes you something special
I can say also from experience people who teach in Thailand are generally low life's who failed in the real world and fall back on teaching in Thailand. Let's face it Thailand education system is a shit show and will take any losers that wants to do the job.
Also most teachers are generally clueless twats

Also a university campus is not exactly experiencing the 'real world's anywhere is it. More so if you live on campus.
    It's a cloistered academic environment.

If memory serves me correctly a mate of mine had his wife's bag stolen from their car in the same area on the same day.

They were sitting next to the car beside the lake, had their dog in the car and the thieves went in on the blind side of the vehicle.

Definately gangs are operating around Maprachan lake so BEWARE.

^ No need to start one up. From experience, my own little neighbourhood knows absolutely everything that goes on. Two things they are quite good at - watching and gossiping.

You managed single-handedly to introduce the 'aggression and name calling' in your post 252; insulting people out of the blue tends not to be well received. Is this news to you? And the rest of your ridiculous post is similarly detached from reality. If you're not sure why or how, go back and re-read the last page and if you're still confused, let me know and I'll do my best to help you out.

That's because you live in shit ville and only leave your house to buy beers in the evening, eking out some miserable online existence, rather than interacting with poorly educated Australians in the Middle East and therefore being intimately acquainted with the socio-political realities of life in Thailand. Or so I'm told.

Stupid thing to say. As I said, real life is not viewed through the prism of a university campus and it's students.
You seem to think your opinion of the situation in Thailand is more relevant because you are an English teacher at a university. It's not.

Looks like Many recognise that Thailand is heading for rough time.

Wikipedia paints a pretty bad picture of Thailand and mentions a lot about growing crime and growing drug issues.

I doubt Pattaya has changed much. I know people who have had their houses in gated communities robbed down there. Most of the time the security guards will be involved
As for the op, when its yourself or someone you know who is the victim then of course you're gonna think its more prevalent than it actually is.

I shall be coming down to Pattaya tomorrow, i shall be bringing my boodyguard now

with exponential economic growth comes increases in volume of criminality, which incidentally increases even more when there is a slow down to that exponential growth as all criminals rush to "milk" anything that move

Not sure what that means but students, teachers and officers live in communities and have experiences of life in Thailand (as do their friends and families) so why their experience, and what I hear from them, is somehow not representative of Thailand is a bit mysterious.

I don't understand why some people have such problems understanding such straightforward stuff; this is a completely ridiculous argument to have to get engaged in. It's like some fucking piwanoi hivemind has taken over what remains of this forum. Well, I hope you enjoy talking to yourself because I can't see what benefit there is to me in my continuing this.

Passing Through is an excellent poster, as indeed was he in all his previous guises. Fluent, literate, quite witty and with a firm grasp of TD's prevailing ethos as developed by a membership who mostly derive(d) their income from being rather good with their hands.

If I may interject, when we lived in Thailand we lived between 2 villages in the arse end of nowhere.
I can't recall ever locking the house or closing the front door. Mind you we had 10+ dogs.

I'm really struggling to remember any occasion where I felt threatened or intimidated. There again I didn't live in a secure environment and I spent all day on Teakdoor (NOT).
