^ I thought I'd better try this Serbian Apricot Brandy as it was a present.

It smells quite apricotty (which is in fact my favourite yoghurt flavour) but Jesus Christ it tastes rough. I can see why my Welsh mate gave it to me... full-on neck shake and one nip was enough. Well, maybe I'll try a second nip just in case it improves with time.

If there are any members who enjoy rot gut brandy, they can have it.

    ^ Not started!

To be honest things are a bit hectic here just now... the daughter's just started the school year, Lola seems to be having the longest season in history and is still sharing my bedroom and I have a load of documents and stuff to wade through just now.

A small, pre-dinner nip while I'm 'cooking' is much needed and very welcome. Even this awful stuff.

Oh, and the wife's gone AWOL... so thing's ain't that bad, I guess!

Your Brix and Stratton might accept it.

    Or keep it for me

Hey Mendy, Pass it your gardener. I bet he can do some magic and make a really unique Ya Dong with maybe some scorpion venom. To bad Chitty isn't your neighbor, He would take that stuff without a question.

Since returning from the UK a couple of weeks ago I've lost 5kg, just by following a couple of simple rules.

On weekdays I don't buy any alcohol, therefore there is none in the house to drink. And I try to eat before 6pm.

This was working well until people started giving me presents... but what can you do?

Tonight I ended up having a nip or two of this Togouchi Japanese Blended Whisky, which is way better than the Serbian Apricot Brandy, but still pretty awful to be honest. It's been a long day and I can't even be bothered with the pretense of 'fishing with a drink'.

Oh, and I'm swimming 60 lengths a day and once below 100kg it will be full on treadmill, etc etc. And I have to say that the mental stress the wife puts me under probably contributes greatly to me burning off calories, although you won't find that in any of these woke diet books.

Let's add another simple rule... today in the Kommandant's absence, I cleaned the house top to bottom, washed all bedding (although Lola has irreparably stained my duvet cover) and prepared breakfasts for the remainder of the week. All this in one morning, but a couple of weeks 'work' for some.

    And it's enchiladas tonight...

^ Here we go... they would maybe not pass muster in Mexico...

I found them in the back of the cupboard, but I think the corn tortillas are the least of my problems.

I have found 'Corn Wheat Wraps' made by Deli Sun, and they are in date.

And I have mixed in some 'Old El Paso' Enchiladas cooking sauce with a bag of my frozen bolognaise/cottage pie sauce I found in the freezer.

With some rice to pad it out.

I'm quietly confident about this meal, but I doubt there will be any photos!

Here that is the best you can do. In the late 50's and early 60's that sauce was imported by ARAMCO to Saudi. They also had tinned corn tortillas. It is a damn good taste, I think generic to so many "Mexican" restaurants. But I will send you a meat filing recipe that is easy to mix up that you and J will enjoy.

^ One of my best mementos from this summer's holiday in England is a Birra Moretti glass. I'd never heard of it before but thought it was OK.

I must say Reg that you certainly have an eye for these bargains.

It's not as great as it was, now it's brewed in UK by Heineken. But far better than Fosters
Do you rate that glass up there with the fossils you bought?

As I dropped off my Welsh mate's kid from school today, his dad came out and invited me in for a coffee.

Over coffee he mentioned that he didn't want this bottle of 16 year old Glenmorangie and wanted rid of it. This is the same guy who offloaded a bottle of Serbian Apricot Brandy on me last week... he works in the satellite industry and gets lots of presents from his suppliers.

Now, I'm off the booze and have been doing really well for the past weeks... no booze in the house, nothing to drink, no problem.

When my b@stard of a Welsh mate offered me this whisky today, my brain was saying to my mouth, 'wow, that's really generous mate but no thanks, I'm off the booze just now'.

But somehow it came out as, 'yeah, thanks mate, that's really kind'.

    FFS, the fukkin Welsh...

Ended up on about 10 or 11 pints all in all.

Well, maybe 11 or 14 really if I'm being honest with myself.

I only got on it cos I needed a shit after my curry and had no change for the bogs in the bus station.

First pint 12.30, last pint 9.30. Managed to call helge a dickhead too before I collapsed so a pretty decent effort all in all.

Life was much easier when I was 20 years younger with a Henry in your skyrocket and a couple of little fellas to get the party rocking.

Just beer fucks me right up.
