The old, it's the selectors fault argument ...![]()

Match delayed by rain
Current time: 13:46 local, 12:46 GMT | Match begins in: 0:14
England squad EJG Morgan*, RS Bopara, JC Buttler†, MA Carberry, ST Finn, CJ Jordan, J Overton, KP Pietersen, WB Rankin, JE Root, BA Stokes, JC Tredwell, IJL Trott, LJ Wright
Australia squad MJ Clarke*, GJ Bailey, NM Coulter-Nile, JP Faulkner, Fawad Ahmed, AJ Finch, JR Hazlewood, PJ Hughes, MG Johnson, CJ McKay, SE Marsh, GJ Maxwell, AC Voges, MS Wade†, SR Watson
1.30pm We will have a delayed toss but George Dobell, our man at the ground, says the rain is fairly light at the moment. The players continue to warm up and not everyone has an umbrella up. "It's pretty rancid," says Mike Atherton on TV.
Before the rain arrived there was a suggestion that England may make a change to their side with a debut for Chris Jordan. We will have to wait for confirmation of that, but Ashley Giles was strong in defence of the selection policy yesterday.
1.15pm Hello and welcome to coverage of the third ODI in the NatWest Series. Australia hold a 1-0 lead after their impressive victory at Old Trafford. Sadly, the forecast isn't very good for today in Birmingham - rain has just started to fall - but we'll keep our fingers crossed. Meanwhile, you can entertain yourself with a read of George Dobell's piece about England's selection policy.
Look at today's sides:
England has more of their test team than we do .England squad EJG Morgan*, RS Bopara, JC Buttler†, MA Carberry, ST Finn, CJ Jordan, J Overton, KP Pietersen, WB Rankin, JE Root, BA Stokes, JC Tredwell, IJL Trott, LJ Wright
Australia squad MJ Clarke*, GJ Bailey, NM Coulter-Nile, JP Faulkner, Fawad Ahmed, AJ Finch, JR Hazlewood, PJ Hughes, MG Johnson, CJ McKay, SE Marsh, GJ Maxwell, AC Voges, MS Wade†, SR Watson
I think you had even more in the last one.
You really are a Wally, Harry![]()
Root's still trying to get out of going to Australia.
Same team as last time, same result.
What did Einstein say was the definition of insanity?
BTW Old Ashes joke:
What do you can an Australian who can handle a bat?
A Vet.
(Should probably be England in these ODIs though <heh>).
WEATHER UPDATE: RAIN. Not long now until the last band of rain has passed through. Then it's all down to the state of the outfield. The rain has been persistent but not particularly heavy, and the Super Soppers are doing their thing. None of the big puddles we saw at Headingley last week, so every chance of getting a game in here. Umpires reckon 40 minutes to clear all the water, so we've got plenty of time in hand here. Remember, play must restart by 8.30pm to get 20 overs per side.
Although you pommy fans claim to have no interest in ODI's I don't believe you. Just like when you were crap at test cricket, you claimed that 'football' was the only game that mattered.
Extreme fair weather fans who run away like little girls when you are losing.
God, you lot are a funny bunch

At least yachting never became our national sport as it did in Australia when you lot were getting a drubbing not so long ago...
Nice try WDR.....
I have never said anything different and it's all documented....
Again?
Zimbabwe have a chance to win a test (v Pak)
Bet they blow it!
^^ Atleast I got Harry and marmite to bite, bob
^ would be nice to see Zimbabwe win. I really do wonder why they have test status though - same goes for Bangladesh.
They have been known to produce world class players
I know they have - but not for a very long time.
It would be healthy for the sport if they were more competitive , but they, along with Bangladesh rarely get test matches scheduled, and when they do it is usually too one sided to bother watching. They have been putting up some right against Pakistan .... Who are the most unpredictable team in test cricket. Not sure if this means Zimbabwe have improved , or if Pakistan are playing horribly ..
I have heard that Ireland may be the next team to get gets status .... And Afghanistan has also been mentioned . I think Bangladesh were predicted to be another Sri Lanka - improve as the years went by, but that just hasn't happened . I think they have only won one test match against a deflated, and already weak West Indian team.
You would think there would be some kind of protocol for teams to hold onto their test status.......of perhaps have a 'B' league with teams like Ireland , Netherlands , Zimbabwe , Bangladesh playing .... And the top team gets a chance to play with the big boys....
Only problem with that theory is Australia would probably be bunched with the minnow teams judging on our recent run of losses..
There is already, depending upon whether it's proper cricket, 1 dayers, or toy cricket.Originally Posted by Wally Dorian Raffles

I'm a saddo who watches 1 dayers too... Mice win, good match. Mitch Johnson showed what he's made of again; when the chips are down, best to toss the ball to somebody else...
^ I didn't watch the game , but it's nice to leave England after so long with something to take home . Including the champions trophy, we have been there for months..
Yes. Mitch Johnson is considered a shorter format bowler for a reason ... He can usually bowl one or 2 good quick spells, but it doesn't take much for him to lose his mojo. With a few of our preferred quicks out injured, there is talk of him bowling in the next ashes, which would be a big mistake IMHO - besides Perth anyway, where his speed and bounce has been unplayable in the past.
Mitch's biggest problem is his personality. He is just too 'nice' to be a fast bowler, and instead of getting worked up and using anger to give the batsmen a hard time, he seems to get upset with himself and starts chucking pies..
Clarke can take something back with him now including the man of the series award.
It must be a pretty hollow feeling but he seems to be in form and I hope he can instill some life into the team for the upcoming ashes series down under.
Yeah Well Done Oz, deserved (decimated) series win.
^thanks for the ...ermmm ... (decimated) congratulations, Harry![]()
If there was a game of marbles being played between the Poms and the Aussies then there is interest.Originally Posted by harrybarracuda
