Today's victuals comprised a chicken salad and a cauliflower salad with hot cross buns and hazelnut cremes for pudding.

Sacrilege to eat hot cross buns only 2 weeks into Lent but I did not make a big fuss since Lao Lady is a wayward Buddhist.

Melon and corn cobs to start with and toothpicks to follow the corn

The waxing gibbous moon peaked above the horizon marking precisely our 4th lunar anniversary of first meeting. She came to kick my tyres 3 days before the full moon 4 moons ago, and the deal was sealed on the full moon 4 days later.

The 2 salads were served cold and shared.

Each mouthful was wrapped in a Betel leaf from her garden.

I asked her if that was related to Betelnut and she looked confused and when I told her about the red chewing nut she remembered and said no.

So I googled it afterward and it actually is. Betel leaves are used to flavour the dangerous alkaloid bearing Areca nuts and the product is misnomered as Betelnut.

LLL has got me hooked on season 13 of Married at First Sight. The first time I have watched it since Icey's kid was on it with his yellow gold Rolex Skydweller in 2020. This years crop are an odd bunch, but I am in love with Julia

Sadly she left the experiment today. She broke the guys heart. I have never seen a bloke cry on television at a MAFS break-up before. Although I don't blame him. She is a Goddess.

Homemade. With organic chicken breasts. That are smashed and minced to high lulu with a big chomper cleaver. I can rarely bring myself to eat such Thai food that has been prepared by some Thai I don't know, with pieces of who-knows what meat parts, with fingers that have just been up or in numerous different body cavities, in a kitchen that was last clea... possibly never cleaned. It's really gotta be done at home with decent ingredients you have sourced yourself.

^Looks like a tasty protein extravaganza complete with khai dao

I put mixed veg in Senorita's Tom Yam this evening to go with the kidney beans and prawns, instead of just peas, to mix it up a bit.

    Just peas is better

You don't post many food pics these days, snubs. I used to enjoy your pics (and rants) after a drunken night out.

    ^^^^^^TeakDOOR Shank Showdown

Looks tasty Willy, but 3/10 for presentation

In the battle of the shanks blue corner we have

Lao Lamb Shank courtesy of Lilliputian Lao Lady.

    Dinner-20260304_003642-jpg

I don't know where she gets all these food items from that she brings over. She does not work in a kitchen. These were 2 lamb shanks precooked in a vacuum sealed bag with sauce/gravy. So I just added a few handfuls of microwaved frozen mixed veg. 2 down, 1 to go.

I had great fun playing with the movable knee bone after stripping the flesh

Didn't your mom teach you not to play with your food?

^^If we had blended your solidified gravy with my watery gravy I think we would have got the perfect pour.

Or a segue into contrasting bones to something that is equally hard, yet boneless, that articulates itself divinely?

^^^^^^^^^^^Apart from Willy's slipshod slapdash slop slather, the turquoise platter hue is also a challenge to my haute cullinary aesthetic

I don't think I could enjoy eating anything off that plate except maybe blue play-dough

Long awaited second invitation to Jiangsu Lady's abode just over 6 months after the 1st visitation...

    Dinner

She has just got a new place absolute waterfront with its own yacht berth. It is still getting sorted out and builders are working and the pool is not properly set up yet so looks less than inviting at the moment.

Some of the neighbours have got some spanky big tubs

This spicy ricy soup stew was quite filling and I thought it was the main course but it was just a starter

Main course was an ovenful of roast chicken drumsticks in a very tasty baste with lots of crunch

Pudding was Neapolitan ice cream which she amazed me by eating with chopsticks. I had already held my own with the chopsticks picking up slices of apple so I drew the line at ice cream and went for a spoon

I thought my luck might be in when she broke out the love hearts

I have not shared a packet of love hearts with a girl since I was wearing a school tie

She surprised me further by letting me drive her brand new Tesla Model Y to the marina for an after dinner stroll along the quay

I had never seen one up close and did not realise what big cars they are

We put it in FSD (full self drive) mode and let it do its thing. It is quite a surreal experience to sit back while a car navigates by itself all the way to a destination. You don't even have to keep your hands on the wheels like with the earlier prototypes.

Down at the marina... if the boats a rockin, don't come a knockin...

I played a blinder on her new joanna when we got back and I think her defences were starting to crumble

I was invited upstairs to admire the view from her bedroom balcony

She invited me to bed but 'just for a cuddle'

But I managed to wear her down with my persistent canoodling and feverish fondling

    Respecto!

I would have been inclined to give her a test drive in the self driving Tesla for the craic.

Leeks. I haven't used them in a long time, mainly because as a vegetable they don't go well on their own unless you combine them into some sort of dish. Well i bought some the other day without thinking and now i'm struggling to work out what to make with them, despite looking up recipes. The best i've come up with is a leek, onion and potato layer with a cheesey sort of bechamel sauce which i'll bake.

Any other ideas that don't require PAG levels of culinary interest and expertise?

    ^ Chicken and leek pie!

Should be a fine example in the last few pages of this thread, made from Pak Chong leeks!

Well firstly thanks for the kind words mate. I had to taper off the drunken late nights out. Still having a drink just not currently out at the pub and I haven't done much cooking either. I may have to break out of this sooner or later.

I thoroughly recommend Delia Smith's Stilton soup with parmesan croutons.

The stilton, cider, and double cream take this to a whole different level. The parmesan croutons are worthy as a snack with drinks on their own.
