^ That pool is dangerously shallow
That's the shallow end
That's one serious dogging party!
But no peas on display!!
The devil's in the detail![]()
I gave your suggestion some serious thought Dirk, even if it would take me outside of my comfort zone. But I couldn't find any ducks in the freezer and I don't really like that sweet and savoury mix of flavours anyway, and besides this week is about giving the daughter her favourites and she's never had Duck à l’Orange before.
My days of proper lard chips are behind me sadly.
I probably eat more fish than meat these days, but I think that oven chips are an acceptable compromise on health grounds.
So last night it was pan-seared fresh tuna steak with thick-cut chips, vegetables of the day and ratatouille.
And a top tip... when batch cooking ratatouille, freeze in flat slabs so that you can just break pieces off as and when required.
I am big into ratatouille, I reckon that it makes a welcome accompaniment to just about any meal.
As happens probably at least three times a week, my mother called right at the critical time and the tuna became slightly over-seared. After three decades of me living overseas my mother still hasn't really understood different time zones.

Your rat looks a bit pale I'd you don't mind me saying. Do you use local grown? I use tinned, this is one instance where fresh isn't better unless you are in France or Italy
BBC FuturePork fat, or lard, was ranked the 8th healthiest food in the world with a nutritional score of 73 out of 100 in a BBC Future study of over 1,000 foods. It is considered highly nutritious for being rich in B vitamins, minerals, and monounsaturated fats (specifically oleic acid). Lard from pasture-raised pigs is also an excellent source of vitamin D.
Key points regarding the nutritional value of pork lard:
- High Nutrient Density: It outperformed many vegetables and fruits in a PLOS ONE journal study, including celery and watercress.
- Healthy Fat Profile: It contains about 60% monounsaturated fat (good for heart health/cholesterol) and is lower in saturated fat than butter.
- Moderation is Key: Despite the ranking, experts recommend consuming it in moderation as part of a balanced diet, as it is high in calories.
- Source Matters: The highest nutritional benefits, particularly Vitamin D, are found in lard from pigs raised outdoors.
Lard is often considered a better alternative to butter or lamb fat due to its chemical composition and nutrient profile.
It works well when cross channel swimming too.
That's it, I'm sold.
Gonna fry in lard instead of butter now.
We tend to use synthetic grease for log distance swimming these days mate, you've gotta be mental to use lard with all the Great Whites out there.
Anyway, it's been long established that I make the best steak and kidney pie in Korat, and that my fish pie is maybe not as good as Looper's but is perfectly edible and will keep you going, but I have never popped my chicken, bacon and leek pie cherry.
Until tonight, with my much sought after Khao Yai leek.
Everything went great, the pastry rolled out a treat, and then I got distracted and burnt the bastard.
Nothing is more annoying.
But you soldier on...
Because you have to.
It was OK to be honest, but it didn't reach my usual high standards.
It was just a bit dry...
But I have to say, I've had worse.
Next time I hope for more moisture and less crust... and then I've nailed it!
But anyway, we have leftovers for tomorrow!
And plenty of...

You might need some gravy with that tomorrow.
Those hands always look like they could do with a proper day's graft.

Personally, I like to take care of me kid in the morning, cooking and eating our breakfast together everyday, doing the school run together, then be there to collect the kid from school for the afternoon school run, then spend the evening and night raising them. Be there with them all through their school holiday times, taking them to interesting educational places etc. I guess it could be called being there for/with them when they're not at school.
Then spending the time that they are at school exercising, chilling, Lulu'ing and enjoying a life of freedom.
I'm not sure why a great father that chooses to be there for their kid(s) and raises them upsets those that miss out on those times, some even abandoning kids to move to Whoreland () but horses for courses, I suppose. :-)
Cheers. Not sure what dinner will be tonight, probably Chinese for the Chinese New Year, may the coming year be graft free too, fully of happy times raising the kid(s) and being there for them in fun, educational, and healthy ways, with lots of chilling and exercising and lulu'ing thrown in during their school times. :-)
Have a good Chinese New Year dinner everyone!![]()
^ Lucky fooker.
I'm waiting for me salad to arrive before hitting the treadmill. -_-
Might pop out to the 7 to pick up a few Chinese Cheers Riceberry Beers for tonight though, now that I've been armspired.![]()
Is today a school holiday?
Since asking, I have spoken briefly with the menstruating one, who said 'Yes, why the fuck do you give a fuck you're not even fucking here'.
So I'm gonna take her word for it.
I had a feeling, due to the location of the tracker in the car, which is why I asked.
Lang may yer lum reek...
