I try to teach the daughter to eat properly... and to my mind, part of this is to keep your fork around the correct way. I remember as a kid, wondering why I shouldn't turn the fork around upside-down in the American manner and simply scoop up the peas. The daughter asked me the same thing today as she watched me balancing peas on he back of my fork.

But some things just ain't right. I think that standards are worth preserving.

As a lad I was In the habit of just shovelling it down the gob any which way but my old mum would quickly rap me on the knuckles with the heaviest bit of cutlery she could find, consequently I learnt table manners. Or at least how to hold a knife and fork

Where? I have travelled the world and never once encountered this.

Neither have I but a quick google search shows that it was proper table etiquette....300 years ago.

^ This was how I was raised in the 1970s, and I'm no Jacob Rees Mogg.

^ One of my sisters has an OBE... that's pretty classy.

Tbh I think the erosion of proper table etiquette is the thin end of the wedge. What's next... a mob instead of a queue (sorry... 'Line'), feet up on the seats of public transport, etc etc

It is the sign of social decline...

We agree on that, at least.

And I'm sure my sister would love to eat with me more often, but busy lives... different countries, conflicting schedules, etc etc.

    Also, she married a German.

I wonder what your mom would make of your dogs sprawled out on the outdoor dining table. A good clip around the earole I'd imagine

You'd share the same dining etiquette there then, albeit with your fork sat to the left of a human winnit instead of one of Yogis

The little spherical green things are peas!

Knives and forks are a challenge for them, you only have to look at how they hold the exotic implements.

^^ As I said to my daughter last night.

Today she called her wardrobe a 'closet'. That annoyed me as well.

^^ Apple sauce, you can see it on the plate at 9 O'clock.

We do in fact have 3 gravy boats but I don't like to show off.

Hopefully she won't hit you with 'gotten' this afternoon, and round the atrocities off.
