I love a week of eating and drinking in Japan, but it's not something you can afford to do too often each year. Anyway, we found this place down a backstreet in Osaka during a recent trip. It was rammed with local Japanese and the food was really good. We went a bit mental on the sashimi/tataki style as you can see.

That piece is almost cooked, but the ones closer to the bottom of the skewer were still completely pink through the middle.

My favourite places in Japan are the spit and sawdust teppanyaki gaffs where you sit at the bar, order beers and more and more food.



Watching the staff shout orders between each other was worth the price alone in the place above. Like theatre.

Late night in an okonomomiyaki place





Okonomomiyaki is a Japanese pancake. They put BBQ sauce and mayonnaise on top, and in this example pieces of smoked bacon. I think I had about 6 during the course of the night. Fit as fuck.

The street food in Japan is unbeatable in my humble opinion. Shits on thai street food

^ not a patch on the UK's greasy spoons and burger and hotdog vans
