As to whether or not she was conscious, the post mortem pictures clearly shows mark un both upper arms/shoulders that indicate that she was held down, this also indicates why there are no defence wounds/marks.
As for the posing and it is indeed a deliberate posing in the Koh Tao Case.
In 44,541 homicide investigations, respondents indicates that sexual posing was present in less than 1% of the cases.

I have had the pictures evaluated by several hmm.. crime specialists ( investigators, prosecutors, true crime authors ) and all of them responded with: it is the work of a serial killer...however those specialist have no knowlegde of Thailand and the concept of face..however in my humble opinion the setting and posing of the victim indicate a lot of anger at the female victim, whereas the male victim was just in the way and disposed off
For those interested in posing here the main possibilities, where the Koh Tao Case can been seen as a mixture of 2 & 3:
1. Offenders pose a body sexually to satisfy a perverse sexual fantasy. Sexual sadists rely heavily on fantasy and ritual to obtain sexual satisfaction. The sexual manipulation of the victim’s body including posing, propping, sexual mutilation, defeminization and evisceration are the most common motivation.
2. Offenders pose out of an anger/ retaliation motive. The offender uses sex as a weapon to punish and degrade the woman. The posing of the body is done to further degrade the victim out of anger or revenge. This is the second most common motivation in sexual manipulation of the body
3. Offenders sexually pose a body to “Stage-the-Scene” to make it appear to be a sex-related murder. The offender is consciously attempting to mislead and thwart the police investigation by making the murder appear to be sexual when in reality the murder was based on interpersonal violence.
As for the facts in the Koh Tao Case, the crime scene indicates at least 3 offenders, 2 to hold the victim, 1 with the weapon and possibly 1 or more offenders for the male victim.
The motive and the amount of anger expressed in this crime strongly indicate that the main motive must have been that main offender and initiator was rejected publicly by the female victim, causing him loss of face and thereby the motive for initiation of this offense.
The main offender has a history of violence. He is known locally for mood swings. He known the area and is local, with an absent father and a dominating mother and so on and so on.... ( standard stuff )
His co-offenders are hang-arounds and possibly people depending on him..oh well I wont spent time on writing this..there are only 2 possibilities if I was a betting man I would put my money on the guy who walked all over the crime scene...
Those marks on the upper arms could be from carrying her body. Not a place to hold someone down as they have use of their hands and lower arms.
Not sure I would go along with a raging in anger attack either, seems one good chop was all it took for Witheridge.
Inn my scenario the motive was fun times for Thai boyz. She was drugged, incapacitated and being raped when Miller came upon the scene, which tragically may have pushed the rapists into a double murder to cover up the initial crime.
After seeing how inept the police are, I wonder just how many other women have been drug raped and did not report it, or it got dismissed as well you deserved it for....
