By definition, conspiracy theories are largely impervious to increasing amounts of evidence. Indeed, in the case of climate change, we have arguably reached the point where it is the strength of the overwhelming scientific evidence that is compelling some people to accept a conspiracy theory in preference to a price on carbon or other government regulations.

Additional evidence will not find any traction among those who think of science as a conspiracy. Instead, communicators should focus on the vast majority of people who know that when medical scientists pointed to the health risks of tobacco, they did not conspire against smokers but sought to keep them alive. And that vast majority of people also understand that, when climate scientists say that the globe is warming from greenhouse gas emissions, they are not attempting to create a World Government but are alerting us to a risk to humanity’s most basic life support system.

No matter how strong the evidence on climate change, deniers will keep denying

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

And as I keep bangin' on. We have an apparent sinking ship, and there is nothing done to plug the holes. Tax ain't gunna plug them up!

Global warming refers to an increase in the average temperature of the Earth as a result of the greenhouse effect, in which gases in the upper atmosphere trap solar radiation close to the planet's surface instead of allowing it to dissipate into space. Both natural and human-made conditions can contribute to global warming, but human beings can do several things to reduce the effects.
    Reduce Fossil Fuel Use

    Plant Trees

    Reduce Waste

Top 10 Things You Can Do to Reduce Global Warming

Burning fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal, oil and gasoline raises the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and carbon dioxide is a major contributor to the greenhouse effect and global warming.
You can help to reduce the demand for fossil fuels, which in turn reduces global warming, by using energy more wisely. Here are 10 simple actions you can take to help reduce global warming:

Jing Lor? So you are doing that? Gore is doing that? Countries ARE DOING that?

I know they get a lot of tax money from it, hence why prices for everything is jumping all around the world, and big countries don't do a god damned thing other than pay off a small country not to pollute.

How to Take Action to Reduce Global Warming

While humankind has the ability to destroy the planet, we can also help protect and sustain it. Global warming is too massive a problem for one person to solve, but you can create positive change by making environmentally-conscious personal choices and inspiring others to take collective action. This article outlines ways you can help prevent Earth from warming further.

    Taking Political Action

Be well informed about global warming. Global warming already disrupts millions of lives daily in the forms of destructive weather patterns and loss of habitat.[1] Being educated on the subject is the first important step to taking action. On a personal level, you'll be more apt to change your lifestyle if you know the truth; on a political level, you'll be better able to inform others and inspire change if you study the issue first.

Challenge others about global warming. A great way to broaden your own impact is to rally other people to your cause. The more scientific facts you have to back yourself up, the better you can persuade people to make simple yet effective changes in daily behavior. Energy-saving techniques either are initially expensive (for example, solar power) or take extra time (for example, recycling), so many people need to be convinced that their efforts matter.[5]

Influence your government. Vote for candidates that prioritize finding solutions to global warming. Contact governmental officials with telephone calls, e-mails, and letters stating your position. Attend meetings with those who represent you in government.

Too late unless you can plant one hell of a lot of trees in a hurry before them sub-literates finish off what remains of the original forests.....but by then it'll be too late anyway, might as well just go on a shooting expedition,....just for revenge.

There will always be a lunatic fringe who will refuse to believe that the earth is round, the earth revolves around the sun, cigarettes are bad for you, and that aliens are best left in the X-files.

For those with a better grasp on reality-

The scientific community has come to the consensus that Earth is warming and humans are the cause of it. While Earth has always had natural cycles of warming and cooling, the rate at which the current warming is increasing is far beyond the normal variation. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and all scientific societies, national and international,[1] have accepted anthropogenic (human-caused) global warming as fact. However, there are still those who argue that it simply isn't happening or that humans cannot be the cause. Here are a few of the more popular claims made by the skeptics and how to refute their claims.

There will always be a lunatic fringe that will choose to ignore the FACTS.

Scientists have measured increasing temperatures and CO2 levels in several ways. Some skeptics argue that the only real evidence for global warming is CO2 in ice core samples where it's very cold
. Research with ice cores has revealed that the increases in temperature seen in the last twenty years would be expected to take place over several thousand years.[2] Scientists can measure historical levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and temperature over thousands of years from ice core samples, but this is not the only way. The most obvious and direct way of measuring temperature directly is with thermometers, but weather balloons and satellites are also being used to monitor temperature. Atmospheric CO2 is measured with sensitive equipment as well as flask samples. CO2 can also be measured in seawater. The overall trend of CO2 is that it has been increasing since the Industrial Revolution. Coupled with historical data, contemporary measurements, and computer models, CO2 is shown to have a strong correlation with recent warming.

^ Case in point, the lunatic fringe and conspiracy nuts who still think the earth is flat, AIDS is a man made disease, Israel owns the US, etc etc.

Human's recent contribution to the total levels of CO2 has offset the natural process and have caused the world to warm if skeptics argue that the total human-produced CO2 levels are small compared to natural sources. It is estimated that if humans were not present, ninety-five percent of CO2 emissions would still occur. However, natural emissions are balanced by other natural processes that absorb CO2, such as plants and oceans. Additionally, CO2 causes heating through the greenhouse effect even in small quantities. CO2 has a long atmospheric lifetime. Once released, it can stay in the atmosphere for 200-450 years.

Ignoring the trolls and staying on topic-

Explain the importance of offsetting human contributions to the atmospheric CO2 levels as opposed to eliminating CO2 if skeptics argue that greenhouse gases are some of the most vital elements of this planet that keep it in order. Oceans and volcanoes help produce the atmosphere on a planet. CO2 and other greenhouse gases are vital to our existence on this planet. Explain that we do not want to remove all the CO2 from the atmosphere. It's estimated Earth would be 30° C (54° F) colder without CO2, making Earth uninhabitable. However, too much CO2 can harm the Earth.

    nAh.

Most realists think it is stupid to try and control Co2. The powers that be know this as well, so they just try and tax it instead, and allow trading as well which makes them billlions

still think climate scam boys are not incentivised to lie? Got a model to prove that?

Exxon CEO: 'What Good Is It To Save The Planet If Humanity Suffers?'

At Wednesday’s meeting for ExxonMobil shareholders in Dallas, CEO T. Rex Tillerson told those assembled that an economy that runs on oil is here to stay, and cutting carbon emissions would do no good.

He asked, “What good is it to save the planet if humanity suffers?”

One good would be that humanity has a habitable place to live. And in acting to stop the increasingly dangerous effects of climate change, we could avoid a great deal of suffering. Tillerson missed the billions of dollars in damages, thousands of lives lost, millions displaced, and rampant ecological destruction due to the carbon emissions that cause climate change.

Exxon does not see carbon emissions falling significantly until 2040. Staying on this path will mean more suffering: heat waves, conflict, food insecurity, Dust Bowl-like drought, extreme flooding, sea level rise, increasingly destructive storms, and worsening refugee crises.

A Carbon Disclosure Project Report noted that “ExxonMobil noted that the company’s ‘operations around the world include remote and offshore areas that present challenges from existing climate extremes and storms. These severe weather events may disrupt supplies or interrupt the operations of ExxonMobil facilities.’ ” Even so, A 2011 study found that “9 out of 10 top climate change deniers [were] linked with Exxon Mobil.”

So what Tillerson probably meant to ask shareholders yesterday was “What good is it to save humanity if profits suffer?” Last year he had told the Council on Foreign Relations about the “manageable” risks of climate change: ”As a species that’s why we’re all still here: we have spent our entire existence adapting. So we will adapt to this. It’s an engineering problem, and it has engineering solutions.”

The beauty of this approach is that Exxon makes money on both ends — they get to sell all their climate-destroying fossil fuels, and then, no doubt, they will sell their engineering skills dealing with the ever-worsening climate extremes. Now that’s win-win.

For the seventh time, almost three-quarters of Exxon shareholders voted down a resolution that would require the company to set goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from using Exxon products. Shareholders also rejected a resolution that would ban discrimination against gays.

Basking sharks don't believe global warming alarmists either .

Are lower temperatures putting off basking sharks visiting us this year?

Are lower temperatures putting off basking sharks visiting us this year? | This is Cornwall

    Britain
One of the most eagerly awaited visitors to the Westcountry shores may have been deterred by the long, chilly spring.
Scientists at the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) say they have barely had any sightings of basking sharks so far in 2013, in contrast to a bumper crop last year.
Jean-Luc Solandt, the organisation's senior bio- diversity officer, said he believed it was because the water temperature is lower than usual for the time of year.
Despite the fact that the gentle giants of the sea can grow to the size of a double decker bus, they are still prone to feel the cold and even a few degrees can make a difference to their habits, he said.
"Divers are telling us that the water temperature is 10 or 11 degrees centigrade. But at this time of the year it should be nearer 13 degrees," said Dr Solandt.

    Ummm.... It's a human problem.

If ever there was evidence of Corporations' view of themselves in the world as one of the demi-gods controlling mankinds' fate.... It truly boggles the mind. If accurate, it is the most frightening business plan I've seen in a long time.

The wavelength at which solar radiation passes through the atmosphere is not same as the infrared radiation Earth radiates back into space if skeptics argue that the very notion of the greenhouse effect is flawed because UV rays from the sun penetrating the CO2 in the first place ought to be able to escape. The greenhouse effect was discovered in 1824.[3] Greenhouse gases, such as CO2, hinder the process of allowing radiation to reflect back into space. This is the greenhouse effect.
