Been away all day, but now I am home and looking over on the twitter space, the Russians are getting pounded as they attempt to retreat. IT is ugly, very ugly. My feed is full of footage showing the advance on the retreating Russian army. The Ukrainians have unleashed with everything they have artillery, HIMARS, Grads. Just really pouring it on. Casualties are massive for the Russians.

In my own and underinformed opinion the Ukranians have no choice but to harry the retreating Russian forces relentlessly. Anything not destroyed now will come back to bite them later.
If the Russians were all going home, war over, I'd say let them go. Unfortunately that is not what is happening here.

KHERSON/2350 UTC 10 NOV/ RU troops have fallen rapidly down the M-14 HWY axis. UKR troops have followed to the outskirts of Kherson. Local sources report massive RU casualties from continued UKR artillery strikes on Kherson crossing points.
NOTE: The 2350 map is believed to be highly ‘conservative’. In the last 60 mins, reports have emerged that UKR forces continue to press forward on all axes toward Kherson. UKR artillery is said to have targeted RU crossing points, causing mass casualties.

No, it is not. They are under heavy bombardment on both sides of the river. Basically shooting fish in a barrel. There are currently thousands of Russian troops stuck on the wrong side and Ukrainian SOF groups are reportedly operating in Kherson city. It is a bloodbath.

See this tweet from Gen. Mark Hertling...

Six weeks ago I first mentioned the potential of a “Falaise Gap” type encirclement in Kherson on @CNN. Ukraine reports indicate it is happening. If RU did not prepare for this & thousands of soldiers are killed/captured, it cements the known incompetence of the RU Army.
On the right bank of the Dnipro river, between 18,000 and 22,000 russian soldiers remain, but not in positions, but crowded in the crossing area. The RF Armed Forces may suffer record losses since the beginning of the war.

The whole affair is a human tragedy, so many lives to be lost, sons, fathers and husbands. Still, Ukraine needs to keep on them, no other choice unless Putin calls time out.

They will and they are. Look at this example of outgoing grad attack on the left bank of the Dnieper at retreating Russians. To be on the wrong side of that is basically the end...

2nd Bridge upstrem from estuary blown at Antonivsky one of few retreats by land from Kehrson
    Telegram: Contact @ukrinform_news

Looks like pontoon, swim , surrender or death for thousand of young Russians sacrificd to Putin's vanity unlike no one left behind mentality of UK Israeli or US forces

While little choice teh Ukrianians dont have to ford the river as they control the left bank beyond Enerhodar NPP.

While the approaching winter may freeze manoevres Ukraine can push towrads Melitpol and leave only retreat Ukraine then Kerch Bridge for isolated Russian forces

Once trapped in Crimea another assault to close Kerch Bridge and Balck Sea fleet will seal ther fate as happened on Snale Island.

The Antonowsky bridge in Kherson was already not passable by traffic. But now the retreating Russians have destroyed it thoroughly. With at least 20,000 Russian troops still on the right side of the river.

    https://twitter.com/TpyxaNews/status...96381283471360

    Video in the tweet.

The pontoon bridge, also shown destroyed was hit by Ukraine days ago.

There is also reports, the Russians have destroyed the damaged railroad bridge in the same way.

Both bridges could have been repaired with some effort. It is now much more difficult and time consuming. It clearly indicates, the Russians concede final defeat in the region, no way they could return.

Edit: Just saw, it was already reported, with pictures, not video, so I don't delete. The video shows the pontoon destroyed too.

Yes, they did destroy it. It was not strong enough for heavy vehicle traffic. Apparently they do not care about the rest of their troops who are stuck on the right side of the river. They are more worried about Ukrainians chasing them over those bridges.

Word has it that there are large convoys of troops flooding out of Zaporizhia oblast as well, driving in the direction of Crimea.

Seems the above coverage with video and pictures was old, after HIMARS took out one span.

This is a pic of the bridge as it is now, many pillars gone.

The pontoon bridge the Russians built underneath that bridge is also blown.

The AFU is rolling trough #Kherson territory.

Civilians welcoming their liberators. But I thought they were pro Russian.

They don't need it any more. Russia just claimed they have completed the withdrawal. No casualties and no equipment lost.

The Ukrainian offensive operations took place in the Kharkov and Kherson regions, Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics but resulted in no gains by the Ukrainian military.

In the Kherson region, Russian artillery fire and strikes by Russian warplanes defeated the reserves of Ukrainian troops advancing from the Nikolaev-Krivoy Rog directions, as well as sabotage groups which were operating along the front lines. More than 180 Ukrainian servicemen, eight armored fighting vehicles and six cars were destroyed.

The Ukrainian military continues offensive operations by small assault groups along the front lines in the Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The attacks are likely aimed at weakening Russian defenses, as well as combat reconnaissance amid the ongoing preparations for large-scale offensive operations. The attacks continue in all regions, so the Russian military could not identify the area of another large-scale offensive. Such tactics of the Ukrainian military command leads to large losses in manpower. Kiev has already stated that the ranks of the Ukrainian army need to be replenished with new servicemen. Mobilization continues throughout the country.

Does this million man army that Zelensky talks about mean a million dead men?

Another interesting report with Micheal Clarke...

It's going to be difficult for both sides and negotiations are still not likely.

It is difficult not to feel a bit of Schadenfreude, but what must also be remembered is that these soldiers didn't volunteer to fight . . . the blame for all these deaths lies squarely at the totalitarian murderer's feet. Putin must go.

Yes, it is interesting how a Brit living in Australia can be so pro-Russian/Chinese/Iranian etc . . . to rave on about an invasion and when things don't go the way he would wish . . . silence. OhWoe, a mainland Chinese living in Thailand and a halfwit Canadian getting their jollies from mass-murderers trampling on people's lives.

Russia is in another universe. I don't think reasonable and timely negotiations are possible with a state as vile and unreasonable as Russia. The only option is to continue to drive the Russian war criminals completely out of Ukraine and crush their economy with sanctions. They need to be deterred from invading their neighbours.

I was very impressed by all those pro Russian voters in Kherzon acting as if overjoyed to be liberated by Ukrainian soldiers. Very realistic.

Important point. Not all those Russian soldiers are there by choice and not all are rapists and war criminals. There will be many grieving relatives in Russia for their lost sons in Putins' pointless war.
