Here is the link to the Article, but sabang has quoted more of the salient points.
Adding this ...
"Few analysts believe Putin has ambitions to take over large swathes of Europe, but some are concerned that his very success in Ukraine might embolden him to move on some of the Baltic states — to really test NATO, if nothing else.Putin's language in announcing what he was about to do was unequivocal: countries that intervened in Ukraine would face "consequences they have never seen", he said, comments that could only imply his willingness to use nuclear weapons."

The old Soviet Union was bankrupt and could no longer pay for the war machine, or feed people.
Negotiation was not needed. They lost. They gave up.
As for getting it going again, most of NATO was happy with the peace dividend and reduced costs. UK withdrew 55000 troops from Germany. It seems you have been caught telling fibs and making shit up, AGAIN!
Yep but racism is pretty universal among the less educated and those who have been hoodwinked by state/nation, religion or cults. I cannot understand how an educated person can excuse Putin?
It seems there seem to be 2 views of this invasion
Group 1
Those who need not always support USA or NATO but support democracy like Ireland Sweden Finland etc
All of EU Canada New Zealand S Korea Singapore , see the pattern all can change regime by will of the people.
Almst every poster here many who disagree about almost any other rmatter.
Group 2
Backspin, Burmese Junta, Oohoo , Chinese dictator, Bloody Burmese coup leaders, N Korea etc, handful of Serbian fascists
If you look at these lists are you sure you wish to align with the "B " team.
Some are honest enough to say they are anti semitic or pro fascist or anti democratic like LOS, PRC N Korea but seldom those who had a taste of education, reason and freedom. Refugees seldom flee democracy to safety in Russia.
I respect your right to post your opinions but facts are facts, of course democracies make errors, LOS , Yemen there are plenty of injustice in UK, OZ, USA but this is State sponsored mass murder, not jus a rogue cop, politcians?
Of course it is not the fault of teh ordinary Russian people who are also victims of Putin and his gang. Sadly their media is gagged and opponents like Navalny or Litvinenko mistreated/murdred. Their young conscripts used as cannon fodder.
Whatever I thought of Scomo , Gillard, Abbot or Howard they didn't go round poisoning their opponents!

I hope this thread is a mutual exchange of views . Many here quite rightly dislike my views or failed attempts at humour but there seem to be few who contradict facts that I try to find from experience or reputable open sources like books or the net/ wiki /bbc / al jazeera etc sources anyone can check. I do add own personal snap re cookery or non controversial travel/holiday stuff.

The lies that you added to the link you quoted are not to be found in that link!
On the contrary:
The Kremlin has suggested it will make a decision whether it is worth continuing talks following this week's meetings. Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, on Tuesday said Moscow did not "see a substantial reason for optimism" so far but that for now it was not drawing any conclusions.
The following day. Putin invaded a sovereign neighbour Ukraine.
You should stop digging that hole, stop making shit up, and stop posting lies. Until you do stop your nonsense, people will continue to die in a pointless war. You are responsible for prolonging the suffering because telling lies is supporting Putin the killer.

CBS News foreign correspondent apologises for saying Ukraine is more ‘civilised’ than Iraq and Afghanistan
A senior foreign correspondent for CBS News has apologised after claiming on air that the attack on Ukraine cannot be compared to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan because the Eastern European country is more “civilised”.
Charlie D’Agata was reporting from Kyiv, Ukraine on Friday (25 February) when he told viewers that Ukraine “isn’t a place, with all due respect, like Iraq or Afghanistan that has seen conflict raging for decades”.
He continued: “This is a relatively civilised, relatively European – I have to choose those words carefully, too – city, where you wouldn’t expect that or hope that it’s going to happen.”
The clip of D’Agata’s comments was shared widely on social media, with the video having been watched more than 1.5 million times.

Which is more of a waste of space?
sabang's desperate confirmation bias or skidmark's complete fucking idiocy?
This is a compilation of four clips that were posted on reddit. Guys are doing some great detective work over there. What you see is a Russian column, enter Kharkov. They are then engaged by the UA (Ukrainian army). Their vehicles are disabled and the troops clearly scattered. Then you see the Ukrainians advance and continue to fight. The column was eventually wiped out. All glory to Ukraine! All glory to the defenders of their homeland! Death to warmongers like skiddy, ohdoh and sabang!
Been around for a while, still, a nice bit of kit.
As are these ...
I'm glad the world is arming Ukraine. Anything that bogs down the Russian scum while Putin sees his winnings evaporate, and more to the point his political allies do too, is a good thing.
Ukraine is really bringing it to the Ruskies. Russian troops have a very low morale and many have no idea why they are in Ukraine.
This is one of the survivors in the clips I posted above. He is lucky to be alive, as the rest of his unit was wiped out...
